- I did not want to catch a thresher shark. You can eat them but I was fishing for something only to feed 2 people. However, hooking into this non-target species completely red-lined the fun meter. It was exciting as hell.
I am fishing in Ruby Bay n the top of the south island of New Zealand. I am fishing out of my dad's Prowler 13 fishing kayak.

Hey, my partner and I are locals and loved your most recent kayak video. We have brought a viking tempo 2 and would love to see some areas that arent so far out to sea for fishing as we are new! Love the content keep it up.
1km off Ruby bay an hour before the sunrises if you don't mind getting out of bed at 3.30am. Put your self in that zone using burly and right now you have a good chance of taking snapper. Otherwise the evening as the sun goes down. Good luck

Awesome clay been there caught that lols inside tata island golden bay ,but in my boat was about the same size , great fighting fish came along port side eye balled me ,no gaff then , quick bite of the line and gone ,you did bloody well to get him into the yak mate well done tick that one off the bucket list , cheers , shaneo, nelson, 👍

I'm on betta blockers for panic attacks, they definitely help, they might affect excitement to but not to bad with me.
It's good you have no adverse effects. I find they leave me feeling flat. I do have too much adrenaline but I live for the buzz so just don't take them.
@@ClayTallStories I notice they lessen my positive adrenaline to but iv had more negative adrenaline lately, so when that passes I'll go off them to.

When I was twelve years old, my father got me this boat and I went fishing off of Cape Cod. And I hooked a scup. And as I was reeling it in, I hooked a four and a half-foot baby thresher shark who proceeded to eat my boat. He ate my oar, hooks, my seat cushions, he turned an inboard into an outboard. Scared me to death. And I swam back to shore. And when I was on the beach, I turned around and I actually saw my boat being taken apart. And ever since then, why yes, I have been studying sharks. I plan to go to the Institute tomorrow and tell them that you still have a shark problem here.
Amazing fish ah Clay. How about those colors when it first comes out of the water, iridescent purple etc. I have caught two and even tho they are supposed to be good eating. I have done the same as you. Released them both, far too awesome to eat 🙁

hey clay i asked on the last vid you showed this shark in but could i please post a photo to inaturalist (a citizen science website) on your behalf. (crediting you of course) As this record could be really useful for scientific purposes. currently they're aren't many records of thresher sharks in the nelson or even upper south island.
