Fantastic stuff. A true visionary and far beyond what I have ever imagined would be possible. Keep up the good work, David. Refined Elements and TX Urban Sawmill in Texas are trying to make a difference locally and bring more awareness to the benefits of urban lumber. In fact, the TX drought of 2011, left us with over 300 MILLION dead trees. Yet, virtually all of it, is going to waste.

The idea of urban lumber is an amazing one, so many trees go to waste every day that could be usable lumber for a vast array of things. I'm not sure of the $10 a bdft price he mentioned but it does offer an amazing opportunity to utilize and give back, great talk!

One thing he didn't have time to detail was that the alders and oak would have different maturity rates. If done wisely then you could establish a sort of continual harvesting schedule on the 15-ac parking lot example by choosing species with staggered maturity time frames.

Nice idea. Street trees in my city get chipped up for mulch. If the end product were more valuable (as is good lumber) then perhaps the tree removal service could be cheaper for the city - they'd go for that.
