Cycling around Lake Tahoe for the FIRST TIME

- My first time riding around lake Tahoe was AMAZING! I had Stefano be my guide and show me around this gigantic, and extremely beautiful lake. I brought my family to get away for the first time since the quarantine has lifted. So I talk at the end about my issues with finding balance between bikes and family when traveling.
Cycling around lake Tahoe and especially cycling around Emerald Bay is must. But I'll be honest, the mountain bike trails were where it was at. I got to ride MTB twice and if I had to bring just one bike, it would be the MTB. The lake loop is not very challenging though, so it's a great ride for any skill level. Cycling in Lake Tahoe is best around June to October during a weekday if thats possible. And going clockwise is the perfed direction.

"Cycling is a selfish sport. So make sure you're not selfish off the bike. Support the ones who support you." Probably the best advice you have ever given.
Its advice I myself often need to be reminded about.

Damn this quote hits hard! Got me fkd up.
Yeah, it's swesome! My other gobby is photography and there is this exact same quote going around as well. Go on vacation with a family and if you want to do some photography, get up before sunrise, go out shooting and get back around the time kids get up, so you get to do both. Don't be to selfish... 🖖
Not sure cycling is any more selfish than any other sport?
Tyler!!! Do you realize how many people you have inspired to take up cycling? Crazy right. Keep up the great work dude!!!!
Right he is amazing every time I get tired while riding I think of his impossible routes and just push thru the pain
Dude, your best videos are the the ones where you drive it home about spending time with the ones who care about you.
I rode with a friend of mine in the 80's from Sunnyvale to South Lake in two and a half days loaded with 50 lbs. of supplies each. We entered through Carson Pass and kicked ass on every ultralight biker on the way. Now that's a real ride! Plus we never lifted our ass off the bike, legs only.
As a father myself, I have a hard time finding the time to be in the saddle, there's always more work to be done and things for the kiddos, keeping the lady happy with our relationship... Everything! I appreciate when you put some family life balance in your videos! It really gives me hope that I can become a better cyclist and maintain a good famly life too! Thank you!
I'm not a father and I can't find the time and energy for it anymore, LOL. If I was a father kiss it goodbye...I might find the time for 30 minutes on the trainer!!! Cycling is fun but takes a good portion of your time and energy. Hopefully this guy takes the kids sometimes and lets her go have some fun with her friends maybe.
That truck in the beginning is an IVGID vehicle (Incline Village General Improvement District). Maybe contact someone there and show them the video. Best time to ride Tahoe used to be late spring and late fall. Now, we have so many more vehicles all year up here. Mid-week and early. Be safe out there, thanks for the vid.
Merick Rickman yeah your right. It had an EX plate.
@The Vegan Cyclist Call them & report. You can't leave drivers like this uncountable. Next person might not be an ex-pro and end u in a wheelchair or worse.
Looks beautiful! As a husband and a father i also need to think about family. Loved that you included that in the end.
Wow! Hats off to Shane for navigating out of an extremely dangerous situation and being so gracious about it. I don't think I would have had to the grace to let that guy go without having some serious words with him.
Kevin Dickerson thank you dude!
Tyler - I’m always impressed by your insistence and motivation to ensure your family is a priority. Great example!
Thank you for the video. I MTB there last summer, such a beautiful spot. Nice to spend time with the family. I am an old woman and I too bring my bikes and leave my husband to wait for me while I ride. He is not as cute as your children though.
Rode counterclockwise from Tahoe City in 1986. Spooner Summit was 100 degrees (September) and tough. Ride from Donner Lake to Sierraville on 89 to 49. round trip is only 50 miles Mountains go on forever Beautiful.
steffano is mad serious HAHA does the man smile ;)
Almost got him at 8:18... almost :)
Hey man! I’m a 55 years young dude !! Cyclists for about 4 years !
I’ve been watching your videos for a while this one man ! Is at the top !!
Keep the good work !! Yeah!!🤙
3:43 What the heck?! That was really close! Awesome video btw, I really enjoyed it. Great message too about supporting the people who support you.
This might be the best video you’ve made, Tyler. I’ve often noticed how you own your role as a parent and husband. We’ll never do it perfectly while having amazing adventures but you inspire me to be better with my wife and kids. Also, this video made me want to vacation in Tahoe!
I was born in South Lake Tahoe, grew up at Stateline, Zephyr Cove Elementary School alumni, done that loop plenty; you actually did it justice, thanks for the nostalgia. BTW that stretch between Sand Harbor and Spooner Summit was scary 35 years ago - no shoulder and that won't change. Emerald Bay is epic either way, glad it got props, along with family time. I'm a little homesick now - well done!!!!
1. I've really grown to love your videos--thanks!
2. For me, Tahoe is such a treat to ride...I find a time to do it yearly (and was just up there--from Santa Cruz--a couple days ago).
Peace!
13:40 is what we needed to hear. Family time\saddle time balance.
I absolutely love your videos VC. I got into cycling because of COVID I started out only being able to do 6 miles. I’ve worked my way up to 50. You’re an inspiration to me! Thank you.
Love Tahoe. I was born up here in Reno, so Tahoe has been a part of my entire life. Love it
Thanks for the valuable life lesson. As I’ve gotten more serious in running and my relationship with my fiancé. I have to remember that my awesome runs are something she doesn’t and can’t really experience. I have to work to support her as she supports me. It takes effort and sacrifice but is worth it because I love her.
Thanks for the video and sweet scenery. I’ll have to check it out there!
I got to be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I love when I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist I love like Delta Parole and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
Ahhh, re-living great memories from a year ago. Did "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride" that follows the same route around the lake with an extra 30 mile loop to make it a century. Even during an organized ride, there were a few areas where traffic was pretty hairy. I had also never been to Tahoe before and was really impressed with how gorgeous it was.
When VC gets to a meeting 20 minutes earlier than he thought he was, he's still 10 minutes late. :)
Glad your were able to make it here and ride the lake loop. It was amazing during full lockdown. No traffic around the lake at all.
Great Video! It reminds me of when I did the loop in 2013 when I visited northern California and Nevada for cycling. It was late in April and quite windy and starting in King's Beach I knew that the first half will be tailwind and then 60 km of headwind. I was confident to pick-up a fellow rider or group on the way. However, I was astonished how few cyclists there were and of the few none rally matched my pace It was maybe still early in the year, so I ended up of riding most of the route by myself.
The day was beautiful and bright with quite some snow left on the mountains. Coming from Switzerland I know some quite epic rides in the Alps, but Lake Tahoe is definitively very, very special. Your video reminded me of that incredible ride and day, thanks!
My favorite video you've made so far! Loved the balance you are striving for in cycling and family life.
This is a thing for me now when watching VeganCyclist videos
Like first, scroll down to comment, then watch the vid :)
Always get a positive vibe and energy here!

I try to do the Tahoe loop every spring. One of the most beautiful places in the world
When I did this ride (2 years ago almost to the day!) I noticed the difference in drivers between the Nevada side & California side was like night and day - Cali was nice, courteous, never had a close call. Nevada side was a close call every couple minutes, constant honking, generally unpleasant drivers.
Republicans are angry entitled pick-up truck driving a holes.Democrats are more tolerant.
Awesome video VC and keep up the great work. The views of Lake Tahoe were amazing!! And who are these crazies who disliked this video?
So good. So good. I've experienced all your words at the end so many times. Sometimes it's such a struggle to give the family 100% of your energy on a FAMILY vacation, when you've wrecked yourself on a super hard ride, and woke up at 4am to do so. "support the ones who support you" Awesome. Thanks for the vid! This ride is on the bucket list!
I dig VC answers so many comments, you can tell he's sincere...I did the clockwise loop about 16 years ago, still looks as beautiful as I remember.
Well now I gotta reply 😂
dude! best video ever! I struggle giving the family enough time..if it's not riding bikes, it's making YT videos & edits. Your message hit home. Thank you.
Such a good video. Tyler making the best content on UA-cam for sure!
Spot on message about making memories with the kids while they are young. They will be independent in a blink of eye and you will still have decades of good riding
Great video bro! Love the emphasis on being there for your family 🤙🏼
So happy that you include family in your vlog...good cyclist...better family man. Thnx
Travelled to Tahoe every year for snowboarding while growing up. Living in Texas, it was amazing to experience that. Didn’t take many trips during the summer unfortunately and sadly haven’t been in about 5 years. Soooo excited to go in July for a 55k on the Tahoe Rim Trail! Glad you enjoyed it out there
The truck going to the right? Hopefully the driver sees this right? Just insane.... no words.... be safe Vegan Cyclist, greetings from the Netherlands ;) (tomorrow a trip to De ronde parcours, be jealous ;))
As a passionate cyclist and family man, i must say that you nailed it with this video in every aspect! Great stuff dude! Cheers.
I am new to cycling and I will also be new at being a father as of September. You are a great example of what it takes to maximize your level of fun for your hobby, while being a great father and husband. Truly inspiring. Keep up the great work.
God that's so, BEAUTIFUL! !
I GOTTA ADD THIS TO MY BUCKET LIST!!=)♡
Those Blue glasses match the Sky and
Lake Tahoe , perfect!!
Thanks for the AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!
I love watching your videos and you're a great storyteller! Also, it's easy to see the effort you put into your family. No one is perfect, but you are giving your family some amazing memories
Another great video! Can't believe you had never been to Tahoe. I used to live in Sacramento & would go often. Also appreciate the positive message about giving back to the family! You're a good example to us all 👍😎
Yes!!!!! Thank you again for an amazing day bro.
This video just takes me to another place when watching, incredibly incredibly immersive, and the views, soundtrack, editing, top class!
You hit the nail on the head. Family comes 1st. Cycling comes 2nd. ♥️♥️
Powerful message at the end. I know it’s something I need to work on. Great stuff!
"support the ones who support you" FAMILY!! another great vid!
Always be the best dad and husband first. Cycling is an activity that can never replace family.
That rust-free 1st gen 4runner at 2:26 is SO mint! The joys of rust-free California!
Great message at the end dude 👍
Spot on, awesome ride AND family time are hard to beat.
Dang man the video closing... mad respect from a fellow cyclist and father of three. And the Tahoe loop has been on my bucket list for a while now. Thanks for the sneak peek.
Great views that worth traveling for.
Always digging your energy VC! As a father of two the lessons you've learned carries forward. Thank you my dude!
Very respectful and responsible family man! Kudos for that, an inspiration to many
Lake Tahoe is 🔥🔥🔥🔥... in the winter, the smell of the pine trees is low key hypnotic... love that place...
I love that you get your family in this, great views of the lake, I'm high key jealous
Triphop and cycling are a match made in heaven
Killer video! Have heard and seen videos about Tahoe but never felt it was a must hit. Your video has me convinced I'm missing out if I don't! Keep up the killer work!
Finally a new video ive watched damn near every video for the last month!!! Getting in ta cycling 🚴🏽 inspired by you bro keep throwing out videos there good bro!!! Staright from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Great video, as usual, please keep pumping out all the positive cycling vibes 👍
Safeway parking lot meet up! You realize that summer is extremely busy in Tahoe! Take that truck turning times 20x. Only boats with Tahoe Stickers were allowed on the Lake, during the spring months. Yes, Emerald bay is a cluster during the summer - locals avoid at all costs. Good ride is Blackwood Canyon - quiet little to no cars, good hill climb. Long time local with US ski team son.
Great reminder to support the fam dude. Got my big ride in yesterday and I don’t feel bad at all for doing yard work today and not riding. 👍🏽
Love that you incorporate family time in the videos! Definitely learning to balance cycling/family.
thanks for taking us along on your bike and boat rides
What a beautiful ride! Thank you for giving so much back to your family. You're a role model for all of us.
"Life RIpps dude." poetic. Off the chain total agreement here my man.
Great vid. The ending is the best.
nice. breaking down the knowledge on the lake. And so pro on the traffic circle. Great vid
Great video! I liked the reminder at the end to save time and energy for family. Easy to forget when exploring new areas. Next time around do the Lemond loop.
Super cool. Thanks for sharing! Great life advice. We all can relate.
Simply just gorgeous
This got me wanting to fly over to the US just to ride that loop. That scenery is incredible dude!
VC, that door opening and sweeping away the text just made my day!
New content!!! Never clicked on a video so fast.
I just did my 1st century ride. Using your edit tricks to edit my videos and will upload to UA-cam when I finish it.
Thanks for everything you post...I know the hard work and time you put into editing your content. Keep inspiring bro!
Dope ending to video...great lessons to share. Like you said, sometimes we get so caught up in ourselves and moments. So it was great that you touched on that point and shared you family and experiences with your viewers. Salute!
bro, your edits are cool af. Several videos ago I have noticed how much you improved. Keep up the good work!
I love this man! I love the feels from the family and the message of spending time with the ones that support you. More power to you Tyler.
That looks absolutely stunning bro enjoy both the cycling and the family time 👍👍
Another great one man! I think we all struggle with the family trip part but I’d say you knocked this one out of the park.
Bruh!!...you’re an amazing person...huge thanks on the constant reminder of balancing the most important part in cycling.... the family.
.....and wow bruh!!..I just really love the scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe..
Thanks for the video bruh 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Dude so stoked to see a new video!! Loved it!! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Lowkey one of my fav youtubers rn
Great video man! That ride looks epic 👌🏻 that truck was way too close 🤦🏼♂️
I used Veloguide in Bucerías, Mexico and it was awesome. Bike provided, great conversation, riding, and site seeing.
Love the vids your videos make my day and its always relaxing to watch stay safe from the philippines 👍
Love the direction you’ve been heading since I’ve Subd. Respect all the riding miles and memories you put in but even more respect to the memories with Family. Keep goin man. You’re doin right.
Great video there again especially the last 3 minutes. Awesome attitude! Would love to do that Lake Tahoe loop myself one day...
The Tour de Lake Tahoe is an event I was going to do this year. I've been skiing at North and South Lake. Definitely as beautiful as you described it. Can't wait to go back and ride.
Thanks for the info. Glad to know there’s an event. Might take the whole family next year for this.
Fantastic. I said 40 years ago that I’d be back for a second honeymoon with the wife. Next year planning to make it. Your video is so perfect for inspiration.
What a scene! Dude that was a sweet ride!
Just woke up getting the push news of the new vid. :) Impressive views, very wise words. With wife and two little daughters on my side, it's really nice to see how similar our approaches are how to deal with the conflict of riding and family time. Motivating! :)
Your content is awesome...every video is entertaining/educational!
Take care of the fam & they take care of you!
Loop Flathead lake MT next? 85miles. Maybe going to the sun road too?
GTSR represent!!! Grew up in Tahoe but Logan Pass - Labor Day 2014 - makes my all time list!!!
This definitely resonated with me man. I definitely invest a lot of time into cycling and have been very guilty of doing that while leaving the family in the background. Your vids have for sure help me realize my mistake!
It's our natural state to be selfish, so mistakes will be made. But acknowledging them and working to improve on them makes all the difference.
I'm stoked because I'm going to ride this round today and maybe top it off with going up on Donner Lake/Pass to get some more climbing in B) Great Video as always, thanks :)
Many years ago, I was doing a cat3 Crit in Tampa Florida area. On the third lap. The announcer said we’d(the entire field!)better pick up the pace, because we’re about to be lapped by a solo leader. That kid at the time was Stefano Barberi! Blow everyone’s mind.
