I have the same skintone as you with surface redness on face and chest! I didn’t find a good match in the Lisa Eldridge foundation myself, but just saw this UA-cam video from a creator named Hannah Louise Poston about green color correctors that kind of lit a lightbulb in my mind. Now I’m definitely not olive toned like her (or that young!!) but I do have the same surface redness. She goes through all these green correctors: You can use them under a foundation or a tiny drop mixed in (I do the former!) and it will totally calm down the red and let your true skintone come through (closer to under our necks!). I’m using the NYX green corrector (in the wand form) but really want the Chanel one (sold out everywhere). It truly amazes me how well this works when used conservatively esp on the cheek area, - I find I need much less foundation that way and they do look better tone-wise! Check out her video: ua-cam.com/video/a2_1VP4HsoU/v-deo.html

On my screen, shade 12 (darker series, right lower face including nose, cheeks and chin) was an exact match - as in, the shade melted into your skin (especially that thick stripe on your nose) and created an even-toned (almost flat) canvas, ideal for feature enhancement with contour, highlighter and blush. In my view, although it did not provide any tone-correction, shade 12 was the best shade match I have see on you thus far. Just my opinion based on my screen. Thank you for demo-ing these shades.

I used all that was left of 10 today - it's slightly pink - but used a little and had on the Allastin sunscreen, which doesn't really set - and it looked good - but it was just a small bit and looked more like a tint than a foundation.

I think 12 looked a little mask-like. I could see it on her skin for sure! It was too dark and rosy which looks a little orange to me. Maybe mixing 12 and 7/9 would get closer, but then you have to deal with mixing and having multiple shades. I even think 10 looks better than 12!

That was fun!! I see what you are saying about the shades and once blended it seems 10 would be the best. 11 and 12 were not good I’m afraid or at least that’s how it appeared on camera. The other card did seem too light for you. It’s odd because I am more golden than you but 10 and 11 made me look way too yellow so my color is 12 which is what their shade matching tool suggested. I don’t think they have that tool anymore.

Hello! What makes you think the neutral shades of these foundations have an olive undertone? Thank you for explaining. I’m just now starting to understand undertone and what colors work best for me. If even the neutral colors of these foundations have an olive undertone, maybe that’s why a neutral worked for me because I’m slightly olive but not olive enough to need the olive undertones. Hope that makes sense! At 56 I am just now learning about make it, and there’s a lot to catch up on! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

I had such high hopes for this foundation and I really tried to make it work, but unfortunately it's just a bit too drying and doesn't provide enough coverage for my liking (I have some redness and sun damage). As for shades, I found the undertone of 11 to work best, but it was a bit too dark for me. Based on descriptions, I thought the olive shade 9 would be a winner, but it unfortunately pulled rosy olive on me, not yellow olive.
I just heard the news that my favourite foundation (YSL All Hours) got reformulated and honestly - I am dreading the day I run out of it. Finding the correct shade and formula of foundation is so hard 🙁

Olive is something I can, but harder to help you determine if you are olive. If you look at the inside of your wrists you may be able to see a green undertone. Also consider what colors are your veins on the wrist? If blue, you could have a rose/pink/red undertone, if green, a yellow undertone. I'm not sure what they look like if olive, but I'm guessing, green. If you can't tell, they seem to be neither, you may be neutral or olive. If you tan like a goodess, quickly and deep, you may be an olive. I have a friend who is normally very pale, she took a vacay for a few days and came back very dark and it immediately for the first time that she was olive.

    • @jjjjk1241

@@TheHoodedLid Thank you so much for your response! My veins are both blue and green, even parallel to each other. No, I don't tan like a goddess; I burn like a lobster! The folks at Lisa Eldridge said No. 9 (olive) did not work for me and directed me to No. 10 (neutral). This was based on photos of course. When you said you thought her neutral foundations actually have olive in them, it made sense if I am slightly olive, but I missed the part about why you think her neutrals lean toward olive. I have had a color analysis before, but that was many many years ago before pale olive was recognized. Maybe I need to have a professional color analysis done again. In any case, the Lisa Eldridge No. 10 is working fantastically for me, and I love it!! Thanks again for trying to help me figure out my coloring!

I think numbers five and seven looked the best on you. After watching this and reading comments, I am now very confused on my undertones, which was something I was sure about. I was always taught to go for cool/pink undertones and always have, except for the couple of times the Sephora shade matcher guided me to a brand's neutral shade. I have a patch of red on my left cheekbone and another on the right side of my nose, that are sometimes difficult to cover. Is that because I am using pink undertones? Yikes. I never thought of that before.

I'm disappointed to see that you didn't apply the foundation like Lisa said to .In other foundations I wear the same shade as you do so I was excited to see this video. My issue was when I tried my bubble sample card I can't tell which shade undertone works best. I know you want to cover your redness, but I yelled NOOO at my computer when you applied so much on at once. Lisa said start with 1 pump then build in spots with a second pump, then let it "mesh" for awhile. I struggled to be patient ( I think Lisa had celebrities in mind who have the full day to get ready for events..ugh!) but once it did its thing it blended with my redness to create a tone that looked AMAZING on my 50 yr old skin. Truly, the trick is to start with a tiny amount and suffer through letting it sit for a period of time ( paint your nails, pick out jewelry, or shove some turkey in you mouth so your not ravenous and want to tackle the appetizer platter..LOL. Needless to say, this will be my I've got sometime foundation but worth it.It will be replacing my"snazzy" base La Mer, which is saying something. I went with 11.

My intention was to help people with color with this video. It wasn't about application - it was about depth of tone and undertone. But you just reminded me of what a very fussy foundation this is. Literally 98% of my face has redness that needs coverage.

Hi I will have a look to see if the lightest shade sample card is back in stock. When this was released I was quite excited about it, but their sample cards in the lightest shades were always out of stock. I still want to try it though, although I'm a little worried after the reviews were so mixed for very dry skin. Finding a great shade match makes any foundation look so much better, whereas even if it's a beautiful formula if the shade is off it never looks exactly right. I have such a struggle finding a shade match. I'm the palest of the pale Scottish skin and many brands just don't make pale enough shades full stop. Of those who do they often only have their most popular foundation in the more extensive shade range, whereas the formulation I want they don't have my shade available. I recently encountered this once again recently at Dior. The shade 00N is a perfect shade match for me in their forever skin foundations, but the skin glow is too drying when worn all day. The face and body is a much better formulation, but their lightest shade isn't light enough - there is a huge difference between the two. With a bit of white mixer I can make the face and body work, but I don't want to have to mix my shade everyday in a higher end foundation, plus it inevitably does change the texture/formulation to an extent. It's an ongoing struggle. Best wishes.

    @AllyKit 2 роки тому +3

I had given up on her samples ever coming back in stock! This was very helpful. Although I realize our input doesn’t sway you, I liked the 10 on you even though you didn’t. It does appear to lean slightly olive upon application but it seemed to meld with your skin or dry more neutral. I do think its companion shades skewed it, just like when painting samples on a wall. Color experts tell us not to put them directly side by side, but to paint the samples on a white posterboard, with white in between so the undertones don’t throw each other off. (Can you tell I just spent two years studying the right undertones for my home??) Obviously you can’t do that on your skin, haha, but I am so curious to see what the 10 looks like on your entire face, by itself. It reminds me of the Armani 3.5 which is technically an olive but can still appear neutral on me. Even though I lean golden, I see green in her golden shades so I don’t think the 11 would work as I hoped. It doesn’t look green on Lisa but it sure looked green to me here.
I also see what you see, that the lighter shades were more neutral and may be better for you in winter but for now would be too light. Or perhaps a bronzer would make it work as you mentioned. I also know from watching your channel long enough that you don’t want to fuss with a foundation that much (agree, there are too many others from which to choose) therefore all of my above comments are a moot point lol. Regardless… Thanks for taking one for the team ♍️😄

It was a light wash of color since I has to little left and my sunscreen wasn't set. I could still see all my redness, as I said, it was a "wash" of color, but it looked like my face belonged with my body. But, if I were to go on fuller to a medium, I'm not so sure it would work. Lights were wayyy too light and out of medium your match is neutral! I didn’t see any green and it did brighten your face or a quarter of your face beautifully! The neutral was just invisible on you, at least on a screen. I think you could use even darker shade, so it would match your shoulders and chest. I think the problem is not the undertone but the shades being too light for you. For winter no problem though! You look beautiful anyway, even with this green olive undertone foundation on 🙂😍 Oh and rosy makes you look too heavy, tired I don’t know, it’s just very not right! You’re truly neutral and yellows tone down any surface redness you have!

I am a winter 6 - great match for me, a little light but good. I will now need to choose a summer shade. And will then need to mix both depending on how much I tan during the summer. And yes, I am more warm/golden surprisingly.

I was 6 in winter and 13 in summer. But I tan easy and I was wearing sunscreen 50 UVA/B, so maybe if I was taning more, I can go higher.

@@lenka156 yeah, I mixed 6 & 13 in the summer as I managed to get a bit of tan (not much), even with very little sunscreen I just don't tan (my skin doesn't budge). Unfortunately going back to # 6 for the winter :(

@@adellaidemikova They are both great colors! I like my warm skintone. Some of my ancestors are from Mediterain, so I tan faster.

The closest shade for me seems to be 6 but I'm not convinced enough to take the plunge and buy a bottle. As an aside, thank you for introducing me to Monika Blunder cream foundation. I've been really enjoying it and her shade 2.5 is perfect for me.

So glad you found a shade! That one is hard too! 3 is a great undertone, but it's a bit to light - but the darker shades are too warm.

Wow. I must say I'm quite shocked. I expected more from LE. The second batch of colors were most definitely weird. I agree with your assessment of the undertones. I'm very underwhelmed and will stick with my lovely Cle de Peau. Thank you for doing this demo.
