  • BIDEN WITHDRAWS: US President will not run again “Obama and Clinton played a role!”
In a spectacular turn of events, US President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidential election in November. Within the Democratic Party, support is now forming for Vice President Kamala Harris. Numerous top politicians, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and former President Bill Clinton, have spoken out in favor of Harris. Within just a few hours, millions of euros in campaign donations had already flowed in. Biden declared that it was in the “best interests of the party and the country” not to seek re-election and instead focus on his official duties. This decision followed ongoing debates about his mental and physical fitness. More than 30 members of the House of Representatives and several senators had publicly called on Biden to withdraw. Harris will now run as a promising Democratic candidate against Republican Donald Trump. Although her previous poll ratings were low, she now has broad support, including from Pete Buttigieg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. In her first statement, Harris said she was “honored by the President's support” and announced her intention to win the nomination. Financial support is also evident: the group Actblue reported donations of 46.7 million dollars following Harris' announcement. Trump, who narrowly survived an assassination attempt on July 13 and made his candidacy official, will have to adjust his campaign strategy. Biden's withdrawal could make the 2024 election campaign one of the most exciting in recent history. Former President Barack Obama warned that the Democrats would now be entering uncharted territory, and party chairman Jaime Harrison announced a transparent nomination process. Biden's decision to abandon his candidacy due to health concerns is historic. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky paid tribute to Biden for his achievements and courage.
