I can relate to the ex John Lewis guy, When i worked in London travelling from Southampton made it a long and stressful day and started drinking every night on the train and within months got in a real mess with booze and lost my job, Thankfully i managed to turn my life around pretty quick.
I like the way the Europeans use the term "rough sleeping"because that is exactly what it is!Americans use terms like The Streets or Homelessness.You people say it correctly.
Has anyone in far left Brighton considered why there is an ongoing housing crisis? Could it possibly have anything to do with the 1. 2 million that came in last year? And when this was filmed 5 years ago there were over 500,000 coming in every year who are prioritised for housing.

I lived in Brighton and liked it at first, but it was a middle class hellscape in some parts People are so clueless and "right on" . They walk passed the homeless and act like they are not there. Its funny seeing the celebs though - Nick Cave, the singer from Gene (now sacked from his job for being a sex perv with students), Pete from Big Brother , Julie Burchill , Bat For lashes singer They even had a young Morrissey l lookalike living there between 2008 /2011 ish

There are at least two homeless people interviewed within this show who are clean/sober. But even if it was the case that they are all on drink and drugs- can you blame them? If I was sleeping out on the streets every night I'd need a pint of Vodka to get to sleep- especially in the cold!
Interesting that many of the people interviewed seem to have their wits about them, unlike in the US where many have severe mental illness or are obviously drugged out.
Different drugs . In America it’s meth or heroin here is booze , weed or spice some heroin but not that popular that’s why they can hold it together a bit more
@Ty Cornish not in comparison to the heroin epidemic in America. Same as crack you do get people that do it but it’s not widespread. Meth is available but again no where near as widespread as in America. Most homeless people here use spice .
And the only way to forget about the terrible position they are in. And then we expect them to stop the moment they are put in temporary accommodation, it's not realistic.

i really i once got nicked aged 15 for pushing a shop sign over that broke was taken to court and made to do 20 hours community service one and only crime 2 months ago i was refused 3 places due to that crime that i did back in 2003
That's a really big problem for our society, if we are to rehabilitate people (as any good criminal justice system should aim for) then we need to believe they can change and improve themselves and offer jobs and housing for when they do.

The biggest issue seems to be rich students (often from overseas but they are buying rather than being given) who boost the house prices and property developers who keep adding student housing rather than council housing.

in all my years of traveling, - Brighton was one place that was the worst for finding any work... - great facilities for skint people (day centers, soup runs) ...but work is better found along the coast....... - even inland.... as well as places to stay! = enough landlords need work doing.......

Most of these people have one thing in common.
They use drink and drugs in their lives.
Then my sympathy wanes.

Addictions is the cause of it, on the street your not held accountable to anyone, the drink or drugs is all they know

It would be fantastic if governments could dedicate space for those who want to live outside in communities off-grid.
