When Tara said that Crusoe being able to put plants in the ground was an amazing life skill for a toddler it occurred to me that perhaps Crusoe is not a toddler but rather an adult in a toddler's body. 😂 He definitely is way ahead of his peers and I can only imagine how fast and far he will soar once he gets to school. The thing that impresses me the most watching your videos is how you don't let things stop you. Your creativity, your tenacity and your willingness to learn are shining through.

In the tiny house, have you considered doing two twin beds rather than one double/queen bed? One could nestle under the other, kind’ve like a trundle bed. Then you would have more floor space for everyday…as you will be using the tiny house as an office as well. The layered bed could have pillows that would allow it to be used as a “ sofa” as well. Just a thought. John with his marvelous carpentry skills could make the frames for both beds. I love the new entry porch to the tiny house. Excellent work, you two!

Crusoe is such a wonderful farmer. He actually is a genius. What child his age is grasping the concept of planting and caring for vegetables and taking care of chickens, building, renovation, watching out for baby brother, etc. So sweet! Janice from Arkansas USA

I always talk about the Jacaranda trees and flowers to all my friends. Having driven in the Avenues of Harare, when they were in full bloom sticks to my mind forever. Never seen anything like that in the Northern Hemisphere. Crusoe is a quick learner. Unlike Crusoe, I see many kids his age who are stuck in houses and apartments playing with toys and climbing furnitures. He is in the natural habitat.

I grew up in Mexico and loooooved our beautiful jacaranda tree in our front yard! I spent many an afternoon sitting reading a favorite book in its branches or swinging from the swing my dad hung! It was beautiful and comforting!

@@jenaemarieAZ Best way to find out, is to plant one. Pretoria, South Africa, is fondly known as Jacaranda City, because of the numbers growing there. Though not as hot as Arizona, temperatures do get scorchingly high.

I LOVE the Tiny House porch!!! When I put a tile floor in my 3,200-square-foot home in CA in the late 1980s I learned to carefully wipe off each of the tiles immediately after applying the grout, using a wrung-out sponge from water in a bucket. If I waited hours or worse, overnight, the grout would harden on the tiles and it was a freaking nightmare. They never became totally clean as they had been before I grouted them😞. Surprisingly, when done right, the just-applied grout between the tiles was undisturbed with my careful wiping of each tile.🙂

Your first plant looked like a Gardenia. Florida has an abundance of Jacaranda trees. Very happy for you.

John is letting his artistic creativity show in the little touches! I love how openly supportive of each other you are. It was so sweet to teach Crusoe to be gentle with the butterflies while he plays with tools and admires big machines. I also feel your pain about the cherry tomatoes. The squirrels were stealing mine when they were still green. I didn't get any cherry tomatoes that year.

I visited Zimbabwe in 2006 when my sister was living there, just outside Harare, it was October and the Jakaranda trees where in full bloom!!! I will never forget the pure joy they brought to look at them.

@17:58-looks more like an Azalea. Rhodes have much bigger, less pointy leaves. You can let the Azalea grow as is or shear into shapes.

Love the porch for the not-so-tiny house. And once that wisteria gets going, it will be covering both sides in no time (plus the wall, the roof or whatever it finds to hold on to).
When you have to start trimming it, be sure to wear old clothes. Something in those leaves/branches makes stains that are impossible to wash out (it used to drive my mum crazy when my dad ruined yet another shirt or pair of pants :) ).
Kudos for "farmer" Crusoe! He is putting his love for digging to good use (well, part of the time at least) and in the process he is learning sooo much about nature and food, plus some of social skills (helping others, caring for animals, seeing how you can build things with your own hands).

I was called the “barefoot girl” when I was growing up. To feel the earth under your feet is grounding. He’ll get a cut or two and a bee sting, but that’s all part of living his best life! Regarding your messy tiles Tara; Grout is essentially cement with additives. When John let the surplus grout dry on the face of the tiles he created a big problem. When grouting tiles, the job is not finished until the tiles are totally free of grout residue. That is down on all fours work - hands and knees. It can't be done with a mop. My suggestion at this point is to bring the garden hose to the tiny house so you can change your bucket of scrubbing water easily and regularly. Mix the cheapest vinegar (acidic) you can find with water at a 1 to 10 ratio. Also, to each clean bucket of water add a few drops of a mild detergent. Get a good medium bristle scrub brush and several terry cloth towels (about the size of a hand towel. Mix up the cleaning solution, start in a back corner of the room and begin. Do the scrub brush and wipe up -then let the tiles air dry. When the scrub water starts to get cloudy, dump it and get a fresh bucket. If your terry cloth starts to show gray (from the grout) switch to a fresh terry. To give you a sense of scale, I would guess 10 changes of water minimum for the first pass. You may not get it all in one pass. If not - you can repeat (each wash will remove grout) until it is clean or you can live with it and let foot traffic gradually grind it off. I'm sorry there is not an easier solution. When the timing goes wrong - the job goes bad in a hurry. 😊

Crusoe ( and sawyer of course)get 28:51 the best education a child could have, he is such a great learner, soaking it all up., what a great basis for the rest of their lives.

What a beautiful tranquil home you have, Crusoe is one clever little boy. He is literally learning ancient and invaluable skills at such a young age, by the time he is a teenager he would be able to get a degree in horticulture effortlessly. You are giving your boys the best education from day one, life skills that sitting behind computers and game boys could never offer. Best parents you really are 😊
