    She talks about all the things that society doesn’t like to acknowledge.💔 We like to put all those things and “problems” away & pretend someone else is dealing with them.

    She produced this speech in black and white film from behind glasses. Stunning work.

      What a strong speech.yes but poor Annie .I always felt bad for the real Ann sullivan;Poor girl,she lived a hell as a child and lost her mother,father,brother and a sister named Ellen before being totally blind..I think i wouldn't have survived such a traumatic situation.I would have wanted to die.She had a more desperate childhood than helen in a sense.

    Bette Davis was crazy to think that she was going to win the Oscar over Ann Bancroft. Yes, Bette was exceptional as Jane Hudson, but Ann...what an incredibly demanding role and gutsy performance.

    The State Alms House where Annie Sullivan grew up with her brother Jimmy......they could make a spectacular cinema about that!!!

      I noticed that just now. There seems to be a small intimation that perhaps she herself was one of those "young ones" that was preyed upon.

    • @SunBunz
      @SunBunz 8 років тому +3

      +Jane Doe why did she suggest Italy? (btw she sounds kind of Italian, but her name is Irish. I've always been confused by that)

    • @mnirwin5112

      +SunBunz I think she was just being facetious. She was smart enough to know there was no way they would send Helen that far out of their reach.

    • @SunBunz
      @SunBunz 8 років тому +1

      Mona Irwin lol Probably. Maybe it's on the lines of, "Let's go ALLLLL the way to Italy, 'cuz your daughter's such a pain in the ass, and you guys REALLY can't interfere." lol
      I just bought this on DVD. Love this movie so friggin' much. Annie's hilarious.

      *SunBunz* Anne Bancroft (real name: Anna Maria Louisa Italiano) was second generation American of Italian descent (both sides) and grew up in the Bronx, NY. The woman she plays here, Anne Sullivan, was the child of Irish immigrants and was born and raised in Massachusetts. I have no idea why they gave her an Irish brogue in this film.

      Mena Canelas I don't think you're an idiot. But I also don't know if you understand how hard it would have been for her to teach with parents that let their daughter get away with everything. And couldn't be an effective teacher with them around. Sometimes I wish we could do this with kids now. It's very hard to teach when you've got parents or other teachers undermining everything that you do. I'm in that situation currently at a school I work for.

      Mena Canelas if anything Anne wasn’t mean. She helped Helen which is different from being mean. Without Anne how far would’ve Helen gotten?

    • @frchrisheffernan
      @frchrisheffernan 4 роки тому +10

      She certainly wasn’t mean. She was trying to protect her (Helen) from this asylum which she described and which she would’ve ended up in and she would not have survived. Remember she was seen as being mad thus perfect for the asylum. She was being tough on her to save her from such a thing. Sometimes to show true love you have to be tough. She was very successful in the end - an incredible story!

      You're WRONG!! Ir was Helen's parents who were mean.....remember they hadn't even tried to teach her how to use a toilet or the bathroom......Remember Anne Sullivan told'em, "Why even a dog you housebreak....."
