On my first deployment I blared this in my bradley... it took one deployment to realize how deep this shit hits. I did 3 in total. Now we're pulling out. My brothers, sisters and part of me died for nothing. Somehow none of these guys ever walked on a battlefield but managed to nail every emotion with their lyrics. Don't ask me how that works.
I think what makes it so powerful is how it leans on this whole stereotypical image of the heroic soldiers fighting for their country and their ideals - and then absolutely shreds it to pieces. "No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend" might actually be my favorite line in the whole song. The entire thing is just a lie the warmongers in the government peddle to get people to support their greed. And the soldiers suffer terribly for it. Thank you for your service, by the way.
" I WAS BORN FOR DYING!! " STILL TRUE! our Government tyrant system needs over thrown! Now more than ever!! It's in our constitution! We own the power! UNITE!! WAKE UP!!
well i mean they did read books so they were bound to read a couple of war books. like the inspiration for ONE was from a book or the movie and the song for whom the bell tolls was from a book as well i think
@@WhateverIwannauploadFWTBT was based on a book of the same name by Ernest Hemingway, who fought in the Spanish Civil War much like George Orwell. One was based on the movie Johnny Got His Gun, but was more or less about a soldier getting blown up by a landmine instead of an artillery shell.
The solo honestly sounds like the best thing kirk has ever written. The transitions, notes, and melody choice are all on point. Perfectly compliments the brutal song.
Classic news for you all: The album would be called _Disposable Heroes_ . Probably those dead in this cemetery are... "disposable" heroes. Look at the soldier helmet on the left, for example, guys.

This album is in library of Congress because it’s so historically significant. Everyone should know the significance of this album. Thankfully now, Stranger Things have introduced Master of Puppets to younger generations! Disposable Heroes is THE underrated song on this album!
we used to fight for entertainment at my house . my sister once said I cant believe you listen to this shit ,I told her she will be loving these guys if you listen ...couple of years later the black album drops and the rest is history
Two years ago, I had my high school students read an article about the Christmas Truce during WWI in 1914. I then gave them the lyrics to this song and had them write an essay on the horrors of war, the conflict between the people in power and the people who serve those in power, the significance of the Master of Puppets album cover, and an analysis of the article and the lyrics. Some of them commented on how sad it was that in over 100 years, nothing has changed.
It s such a great way of psychological defense against the blind power doctrin making people, young men , obliged to be warriors on the battlefied. One doesn t feel that helpless towards the opressive and aggressive politics when you listen to a band that expresses the topic and its underlying emotions like this. Great Work! Take your guitars and drums and Fight for Justice...it should be for all
Kill Em All, Ride The Lighting and Master of Puppets are by far the best Metallica albums. Not to say their other stuff isn't good but this is by far the most potent material.
@@rivertwygzbed543 top of my head- Dyers eve, One, my friend of misery, battery, fight fire with fire... I could probably do several top 5, maybe per album a top 3 would be fair enough.
@@efravillamusic For me: The Four Horsemen, Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, One and The Unforgiven 1. I agree with you that's it's hard to pick a definite top 5 but I love those songs.
I never realized @2:55 right after James sings "Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow" Lars is doing a ticking sound with is hi-hat.
People call him bad cause how much he speeds up and slows down he also fuck up fills. I mean tbh I think I would fuck up quite a bit if I had to play in front literally 10s of thousands every night they gig. I actually love Lars and what he stood for against napster it takes balls and unfortunately musicians lost that fight now look at the shit we're in
This is their best song, in my opinion. Amazing lyrics, changeups, and most of all the emotions of anger and despair are perfectly captured by the music. At the same time, it's not a ballad. They go hard af for the full 8 minutes.
"The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it." This quote quite fitting

The solo of this song is just MAJESTIC and BEAUTIFUL.... my favourite solo of all metallica songs. This song is such a golden gem of all thrash metal!!!
Well, this song is relevant once again. Many videos now show a lot of the Russian soldiers were just lied to, told that they were just going to have military exercises, not war. They didn't even know they're going to be just cannon fodders.
Reason what russia do right now is same what american do to afghanistan, iraq and israel do to palestine. And for the long² time happen to palestinian. And suddenly when russia attack ukraine for the same reason, the world want to punish russia? Im not defending what russia doing, but the world dont see what happen to afghanistan, iraq and palestine as the world see what happen to ukraine right now.
my fav 'tallica song! I've been lucky to see them playing all master of puppets on 2006, everything is still in my ears...it still flows in my veins... unforgettable experience! Today I can say "damn, I've been there! I'm still there! "
They reached their pinnacle at Master of puppets, without Cliff they were never the same. And that's not saying anything against Jason, because he's one of the most badass bass players of all time, and I wish he would have stayed with his original band flotsam and Jetsam, One of the most criminally badass underrated bands of their time
This song and "One" have the most haunting lyrics in tge Metallica early catalog. Both GREAT songs, but not something I could listen to if I suffered from PTSD (I'm a 46 year old Canadian citizen) so the wars were long before my time. Just POINTLESS TRADEGY!!!
I was coaching 15-16 year young hockey team that gathered around their internal leader metal guitarist who was a good man, no drugs, just let them express themselves like I did at their age. They were so into Metallica, and turned me on to them...another chapter in our rock and roll lives...awesome.
Metallica are part of a generation whose fathers/uncles/grandpas sacrificed themselves- hence the driven force and inspiration behind such classic songs as these.
0:32 One of the greats Metallica riffs ever Edit: Also I think the album cover is based off this song, soldiers gravestones with an invisible puppeteer twisting their beliefs above and a nuclear explosion in the back.
Master of Puppets, that could be referential to 3 songs off the top of my head from the album, Master, Sanitarium and Disposable Heroes, Master is about addiction, feeling like a slave to addiction, a puppet to the drugs Sanitarium, the mentally I’ll are treated as worthless, like puppets to be cooped into the dollhouse Disposable Heroes, the soldiers are puppets used in wars they never signed up for
"Disposable Heroes" is such an underrated song, it has everything one could ask for, killer riffs, brutal tempo changes, excellent guitar solos, awesome lyrics, etc, if you ask me, it is an all-time Masterpiece of Thrash/Heavy Metal. \m/

This songs gonna be really relevant pretty soon
Yup, it will!
To the gopniks? Yeah it already is.
Always has been always will be.
Fun fact, this song was conceptualized about football players at first.
This song Frickin Rules.
Sad but true
All time best Metallica song. Inexplicably underrated. Also, has the most authentic solo of all the Metallica songs.
The solo honestly sounds like the best thing kirk has ever written. The transitions, notes, and melody choice are all on point. Perfectly compliments the brutal song.
This and Dyers Eve
Intro to “No Remorse” is up there with it.
Classic news for you all: The album would be called _Disposable Heroes_ . Probably those dead in this cemetery are... "disposable" heroes. Look at the soldier helmet on the left, for example, guys.
The way James & Kirk synchronise the guitars has always been one of the many reasons why I love Metallica so much. It sounds amazing!
you gotta thank Cliff for that "detail"
You mean James...Kirk only plays leads on albums.
All other guitars are Hetfield.
@@vorpalbladesKirk did harmonies too jackass
@murk4552Wrong, leads only. All other guitar is Hetfield.
Best Metallica song. A total masterpiece
m
op
Not even a huge Metallica fan but 100% agree this is their greatest song by far
It’s up there for sure
Yeah right by Fade to Black, RTL, One, and Blackened
One of my favorite Kirk leads
Why can't he play solos like this anymore?
@@astro2691 age, lack of practice
He still does, you just can't hear what he is doing anymore because of his abuse of the wah
@@brianyzq7776 To be fair, its rather difficult to play high speed, syncopated solos live with a drummer who can't keep a steady tempo.
@@blppt true, I honestly think lars is a burden for the band, because the other 3 are very good players, but I understand the importance he had in early met
One of my favorite Metallica tunes! I'm jamming to this thinking of my fellow Metallica concert goer Ruthie & friend of 40 yrs who just passed away (6/14/71*10/07/22). I miss you and love you forever! Fly high Ruthie 🤘🥲😢❤️💙💛
This album is in library of Congress because it’s so historically significant. Everyone should know the significance of this album. Thankfully now, Stranger Things have introduced Master of Puppets to younger generations!
Disposable Heroes is THE underrated song on this album!
Damage Inc. is also underrated I'd say
@@DeezDeez-dn9gbfor sure! And has one of their best riffs in the breakdown, which is Kirk’s. He needs more recognition as a riff maker
we used to fight for entertainment at my house . my sister once said I cant believe you listen to this shit ,I told her she will be loving these guys if you listen ...couple of years later the black album drops and the rest is history
I couldn't imagine if my teacher had asked me about my favorite song in high school
@@sethsmith2608 I've also done a comparison between Tennyson's Charge of the Light Brigade and Iron Maiden's The Trooper.
@prozac623 you are the coolest teacher I've heard of. I wish you were my history teacher
@@The_Great_Letter_E Thank you so much, my friend. I greatly appreciate that.

glad new people are still discovering songs like this
I started learning guitar 4 months ago... Today I finally played through the rhythm part on 100% speed and I'm so happy.
i dont think thats physically possible, id love to see a video.
If you actually did that then you are very very talented
very impressive ! : )\
Maybe you just think that you have managed to do it?..
Post video If you indeed did this you’re a beast
How can a song be over 8 minutes long, only the 3rd longest, and still be too short
Best Song from this album
Șerban17 agree
Yes!
One of the best Metallica songs
It s such a great way of psychological defense against the blind power doctrin making people, young men , obliged to be warriors on the battlefied. One doesn t feel that helpless towards the opressive and aggressive politics when you listen to a band that expresses the topic and its underlying emotions like this.
Great Work! Take your guitars and drums and Fight for Justice...it should be for all
...And Justice for All
That was really well said honestly
And you too are a hero for telling us this. Ypu dont always need to pick up a gun and head to a foreign country to be a 'hero'. Thank you
This song is absolutely brutal. My favorite off Master along with Leper Messiah
Agreed.
yeah, cheers, my two faves!
Kill Em All, Ride The Lighting and Master of Puppets are by far the best Metallica albums. Not to say their other stuff isn't good but this is by far the most potent material.
I'd remove Kill em all and add and justice for all if I could choose only 3

What's your top 5 Metallica songs?
@@rivertwygzbed543 top of my head- Dyers eve, One, my friend of misery, battery, fight fire with fire... I could probably do several top 5, maybe per album a top 3 would be fair enough.

The Four Horsemen, Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets, One and The Unforgiven 1.

The part around 5:25 where James is harmonizing with Kirk’s solo moves my soul in amazing ways
This song is incredible and timeless
That "I was born for dying" is the one of greatest metal screams.
One of the greatest metal songs of all time.
So fucking happy this is real. Nice to hear that bass come through just a little more and have everything be crisp and clean.
Except Metallica just released a new album within the last year and Taylor Swift's music is nothing more than worthless trash.
They deleted their comment🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I never realized @2:55 right after James sings "Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow" Lars is doing a ticking sound with is hi-hat.
The genius of lars back then but people still call him bad at drumming btw its the crash cymbal not hi hat
People call him bad cause how much he speeds up and slows down he also fuck up fills. I mean tbh I think I would fuck up quite a bit if I had to play in front literally 10s of thousands every night they gig. I actually love Lars and what he stood for against napster it takes balls and unfortunately musicians lost that fight now look at the shit we're in
I don't hear it man
@@thedarksideofthemoon9195Listen to it again
You put an ad in the middle of a song?
Right?!! Wtf....
"I WAS BORN FOR DYIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEAAAHHHNG"
that voice line made me *ahegao*
This is beyond metal, even Death Metal.
This is their best song, in my opinion. Amazing lyrics, changeups, and most of all the emotions of anger and despair are perfectly captured by the music. At the same time, it's not a ballad. They go hard af for the full 8 minutes.
Yeah, will change, but for now, it's their best IMO.
This Album....from start to finish
From conception to birth...is the single GREATEST METAL ALBUM EVER!!!!!!!
Perfect song. One riff more beautiful than the other. 🤘✝🤘
hands down the best metallica song ever!!!!!
im also very hyped for M72 world tour 2023
see you guys in munich!
See kids, that is how it's done.
In connection with recent events, I listen to this song almost non-stop.
"The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without compassion, without remorse. All war depends upon it."
This quote quite fitting
In my opinion, the best Metallica song EVER!!! The lyrics remind me my military days...
4:34 is brilliant production with the solo doubling/delay.
LYRICS:
Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
A servant 'til I fall
Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away
Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blind man
Barking of machine gun fire, does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends
Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away
Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blind man
Why, am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here
Why, am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here
I was born for dying
Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun
Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here, greetings death
He's yours to take away
Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward
You servant
You blind man
Back to the front
Back to the front
Back to the front
Back to the front

I do like that they turned up Cliff’s bass. It was good back in ‘86 but the remaster just makes it that much better. Great record.
Best song Metallica ever wrote! This song convinced me that Hetfield is the best rhythm player in all of Metal.

Sean Lindholm lol you sure about that? Check again
Le Pulvérisateur d'anus not in this context. He's saying the best song Metallica ever wrote... for it to be written it would be the "best song Metallica has written"

Best song of the album
The solo of this song is just MAJESTIC and BEAUTIFUL.... my favourite solo of all metallica songs. This song is such a golden gem of all thrash metal!!!
4:05 he did it, he used the ride cymbal
- You cannot make a beautiful riff with just a single note
- Metallica: Watch me...
Welcome home to my brothers and fellow veterans
Well, this song is relevant once again. Many videos now show a lot of the Russian soldiers were just lied to, told that they were just going to have military exercises, not war. They didn't even know they're going to be just cannon fodders.
Dеаth tо рutlеr, step out from Ukrаіnе and Сrіmеа, and peace for all
You are being lied to, the globalists are losing, for now
Reason what russia do right now is same what american do to afghanistan, iraq and israel do to palestine. And for the long² time happen to palestinian. And suddenly when russia attack ukraine for the same reason, the world want to punish russia?
Im not defending what russia doing, but the world dont see what happen to afghanistan, iraq and palestine as the world see what happen to ukraine right now.
They knew everything. And they enjoy torturing people
@carti vamp67 I don't watch the US media
Disposable Heroes was the first Metallica song I ever heard, at the age of six.
This is a masterpiece.

They reached their pinnacle at Master of puppets, without Cliff they were never the same. And that's not saying anything against Jason, because he's one of the most badass bass players of all time, and I wish he would have stayed with his original band flotsam and Jetsam, One of the most criminally badass underrated bands of their time
Kind of like when Bon Scott died AC DC were still great . Shit was different with Bon and with Cliff gone .
There really shouldn’t be a commercial interrupting this video
This sounds so good, holy shit
Cliff Burton's bass is just sublime on this song.
Definitely one of the best Metallica solos, and definitely one of their most underrated songs
Probably one of the best lyrics a song could have
This is where the album really starts to warm up, you can really fucking feel it.

Thrash Metal eargasm !
Arnold Schwarzenegger thrash metal at it's best. wish they'd play this live
Arnold Schwarzenegger very true

This song and "One" have the most haunting lyrics in tge Metallica early catalog. Both GREAT songs, but not something I could listen to if I suffered from PTSD (I'm a 46 year old Canadian citizen) so the wars were long before my time. Just POINTLESS TRADEGY!!!
Oh boy, the bass... Just awesome!!!
You live in our hearts Cliff!!!
I was coaching 15-16 year young hockey team that gathered around their internal leader metal guitarist who was a good man, no drugs, just let them express themselves like I did at their age. They were so into Metallica, and turned me on to them...another chapter in our rock and roll lives...awesome.
Still holds up almost 40 years later. Keep on shredding boys!
“I was born for DYINGGGGG” = best lyrics ever 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Metallica are part of a generation whose fathers/uncles/grandpas sacrificed themselves- hence the driven force and inspiration behind such classic songs as these.
This is my fav Metallica song!
0:32 One of the greats Metallica riffs ever
Edit: Also I think the album cover is based off this song, soldiers gravestones with an invisible puppeteer twisting their beliefs above and a nuclear explosion in the back.
Master of Puppets, that could be referential to 3 songs off the top of my head from the album, Master, Sanitarium and Disposable Heroes,
Master is about addiction, feeling like a slave to addiction, a puppet to the drugs
Sanitarium, the mentally I’ll are treated as worthless, like puppets to be cooped into the dollhouse
Disposable Heroes, the soldiers are puppets used in wars they never signed up for
Its so clearly a puppet master, its obviously based on the title track
@@CJ_YT. Puppet master? 😄😄
