Re first case. I disagree somewhat with Judy and agree on some things. She says they weren't in a more difficult situation but that is not true. The husband said because of Covid that he was only able to work 3 days a week at the restaurant (obv people stopped going to restaurants as much during covid). Plus their baby was sick from the lead so they probably had medical bills. And 1000$ a month that the wife gets for being blind is not a whole lot either. Even with some money aid from covid support they would have less than they normally do and then the landlord raises the rent on top of that. It still doesn't mean it is okay that they didn't pay rent, they especially could have paid something towards it! The landord started to try to evict them even when they were paying rent tho so he seems like a troublesome one. Them removing the carpet is not that big of an issue. It is possible that they stopped paying any figure out of spite but that is ofc not okay. However the landlord is not innocent, he seems troublesome and also it is not hard for him to find new tenants. He is entitled to his rent tho, they owe him that. But the case is more nuanced.
