Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through UA-cam videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!
Having a diverse perspective is crucial to what I want to achieve here so please don't hold back! I want to learn about all I can! Keep recommending and PLEAESE join my Discord :) ( / discord )

If you want a classic sketch from these two, you MUST watch the one with Andre Previn.
i think connor already did andrew preview on his other channel ...
@@markwalford-groom fair enough if he has, I'll look it up.
That’s his name, I couldn’t remember it. Previn yes, that the fellow. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣 Also they never let Des O’Conner sing on the show. 🤣😂🤣😂 Class. 🤣😂🤣
@@davidlawrence5091 JUST CHECKED BOTH CHANNELS think andrew preview and the stripper breakfast both copyright blocked they both gone from playlists
@@markwalford-groom I've just found it at ua-cam.com/video/uMPEUcVyJsc/v-deo.html&ab_channel=MarkAshleyG, and there are also other Americans reacting to it. McJIBBIN - YOU MUST DO THIS ONE!!! Even if you don't publish it, just watch it. It's one of the greatest comedy set pieces ever.
The cough and "Arsenal" is an old running gag. When Eric played an incompetent 'Mr Memory', unable to remember anything without unsubtle prompting from Ernie, Ernie prompted Eric with "Arsenal!" disguised very badly as a cough. And every time after Ernie coughed Eric would shout out Arsenal.
I still say Arsenal when someone coughs!
@@jaccilowe3842 - Me too LOL !
Thank you, I have been looking into what the cough meant and never found out.
Eric’s real surname is Bartholomew. He adopted the name of his home town of Morecambe, a seaside town in Lancashire … pronounced, “Moor-cam”.
Eric and Ernie are eternal treasures of the UK comedy world. Everything used to stop for their weekly shows and especially the Xmas specials before the days when TV programmes could be recorded. They had huge audience numbers. Look out for the breakfast sketch; their take on, ‘Singing in the rain’, which Gene Kelly said was the best he’d ever seen, and the sketch with Andre Previn of Grieg’s piano concerto. Well, anything of theirs will do really. Everybody wanted to be on their shows. They had Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Glenda Jackson, etc., making complete twits of themselves. Eric and Ernie met when they were teenagers doing touring stage shows. They could sing and dance as well. This video is relatively tame. They were terrific.
Andre Previn was the best one, how he kept a serious face I'll never know!
@@CliveBilby - I think you meant 'Andre Preview' ??? 😎
@@stewedfishproductions7959 I'm typing all the right letters, not necessarily in the right order!
@@CliveBilby - Absolutely brilliant, just spat my tea all over the keyboard... Will spend the next half hour cleaning LOL ! 🤣🤣🤣
I'd write it MOOR-cuhm for an American. Conor, it's not idiotic not to know how to pronounce something if you've only ever seen it written, rather than spoken - we have some strange pronunciations here! Worcestershire for example! 😬
Mastermind was a hugely popular quiz show, and Magnus Magnusson was the actual presenter of the show. The bit at the end about not watching him wrestle, was a reference to a popular wrestler called Mick McMannus.
The show is still going !
@@AndyK.1 It is, but no longer hugely popular, and no Magnus!
If you can get hold of it get hold of the sketch of Morecambe and Wise with Andre Previn it's an all-time classic
Yes, Mr Preview was a real sport. Especially as iirc he hadn't seen the script until the flight over and learnt it on the plane - and was word perfect!
“Im playing all the right notes, just not in the right order”..😂😂
Magnus Magnusson was born in Iceland but lived most of his life in Scotland. I was fortunate to meet him on a number of occasions, he was a true gentleman with impeccable manners who never let fame go to his head. He was made an honorary Knight of the British Empire, but couldn’t call himself Sir Magnus because he never became a British citizen and retained his Icelandic citizenship until his death in 2007.
He was much loved in Scotland, as is Sally, his daughter. He also had a lot of relatives in Shetland and a few in Orkney. I also know another Magnusson in Orkney.
Morecambe and Wise had huge, gigantic audiences back then. Half the country watched it. Famous people always felt honoured to be asked on the show. Magnus Magnusson was famous for the real Mastermind at the time,
The Two Ronnies Mastermind sketch worth seeing.
Mastermind was a genuine long running quiz show in the uk ... Magnus Magnuson hostied it from 1972 to 1997 and hosted a celebrity mastermind in 2002.
There have been various versions of the show with sports only and junior versions and as mentioned before Celebrity Mastermind.
The Show is still running under a new host John Humprhys.
Magnus died in 2007.
Mastermind first aired in 1972 and is still very popular. 42 seasons later.
Back in the '60s when there were two tv channels, an enormous percentage of the population would watch the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special. It became a bona-fide Christmas tradition like the Queen's Speech or carols from King's College, Cambridge on Christmas Eve
It's a very good sketch. Then there's Mastermind by The Two Ronnies... Even better.
That was the link at the end. He said 'there seems to be another here', that was the 2 Ronnie's one
The problem with that one is that some other reactors feel compelled to laugh even though they could not possibly know the reference like Len Murray-1970's-Head Of The TUC....:)
The best one was with Andre (Preview) Previn. A world renowned conductor and pianist.
Eric and Ernie at their best.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The 2 Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise were top British comedy acts and could easily have TV audiences of 20 million or more as we only had 3 channels to choose from
The Morecambe and Wise sketch with Andre Previn is a good 'un. The Two Ronnies mastermind sketch is pretty good too.
The cough and ARSENAL! is a long-running Eric Morecambe gag that's a call-back to an _earlier_ sketch. When Eric played an incompetent 'Mr Memory', unable to remember anything without unsubtle prompting from Ernie, Ernie prompted Eric with "Arsenal!" disguised very badly as a cough. Later, whenever Ernie, or anyone else, coughed or sneezed, Eric would shout "Arsenal!"
This bring back awesome memories. The Two Ronnie's also did a great Mastermind skit. Well worth watching bro.
that is the real host of mastermind ..RIP MAGNUS ,ERIC AND ERNIE
The ABSOLUTE GREATEST double act ever!!.. Eric Morcambe was just so naturally funny and, imo, Eric Wise, too often viewed as simply 'the straight man' of the duo was very much underated!!... Very funny memories, very special greatly missed funny men...
At the end Ernie says to Magnus Magnusson (The real Mastermind host) "I'll never watch you wrestle again!" This is a skewed reference to Mick McManus a very popular "Bad guy" wrestler amongst Grapple fans. The real forerunner of WWF. I loved the wrestling on Saturday afternoons from that era. Such gymnastic skill and comedy...
Middleweights(ish) McManus/Pallo/Alan Colbeck/Brian "Goldbelt" Maxine/ Steve Grey/Johnny Saint/Eddie Capelli/Les Kellett, Bert Royal,Vic Faulkner and The Greatest of them all:World Champion:GEORGE KIDD
It was always fun watching wrestling on a Saturday afternoon Mick McManus was my favourite villain.
@@Isleofskye Steve Viedor my favourite
You're a little dangerous Lynette as I see you like THe Bad Boys :)
He lived 4 miles from me in New Cross,South East London:)
From The Heavyweight Division, we had Steve, Wayne Bridges, Jumping Jim Hussey(Father of Mark Rocco) Big Bruno Elrington, Kendo Nagasaki, Haystacks, Yorker European 1962 champion: Shirley Crabtree( who later morphed as Big Caddy) Judo Al Hayes(before he became a "heel", The Masked Doctor Death(Promoter Paul Lincoln),The Wiild Man Of Borneo and The Rock's :Grandfather: Lord High Chief Peter Maivia etc:)
This is great thanks. The two Ronnies did 'mastermind' as well but completely differently...have a look its very funny 😊
They were he greatest of all time & unlike most double acts they actually liked each other. Their chemistry is wonderful
Seriously connor you have no idea how popular those two were .there Christmas specials had over 20 million people watching. At least. Several generations in a family ( grandparents, parents kids all loved them ) the reruns were still popular when i was growing up .
Magnus Magnusson was the presenter of the show Mastermind since 1972 and the other reason why it was funny was that normally they had four contestants and in the original show they were college/university professors and to say infants school was completely different to the original show.
Every time Ernie coughs Eric says Arsenal. The London Football club
"Never call someone silly because they mispronounce a word (or name), it usually means they read it" (reading is a good thing)
The cough - Arsenal! Is a reference to an older sketch. Eric was the memory man, Ernie was asking questions whilst secretly giving the answers. The first question was the same as here "who won the FA cup in 1930." And then prompts him by saying Arsenal (poorly disguised as a cough, which the incompetent memory man misses completely, suggesting various obviously wrong answers instead. After that it became a running joke that whenever Ernie coughs Eric would should ARSENAL!
enjoyed seeing this, if you're confused as to why Eric said Arsenal when Ernie coughed, so am I, it's a running joke that I never understood, but somehow is still funny to me.
"Arsenal!" = Arse hole.
Mastermind was such a great programme. Magnus Magnusson was the ideal presenter.
They way Eric almost got up, what routines they had. I think best was with Leonard Rossiter singing boogie woogie boys
The Newsreaders doing South Pacific ?
Connor: the quizmaster was THE Magnus Magnusson. I know it was the M&W thread which took you here but you are privileged to watch this lovely man (he ran a journalism course at my college) in action .
I'm from Morecambe northwest England have a statue on promenade of Eric Morecambe 👌
Woo you answered my question, this has got to be the best ever sketch, love your channel conor love from Ireland
The kings of comedy
Another great comedy duo I grew up watching. Loved the Morecambe and wise show.
Eric Morecambe was a comic genius. Ernie played the straight man, and was also extremely intelligent. Eric was 'the loveable fool'. In their day they had the highest rated TV show in England. RIP Eric... you still make me laugh.
Pleaaase react the Breakfast Sketch!!!
These guys are pure comedy genius 🥰
You need to watch Morcambe & Wise with Andre Brevin. It is really funny. 👍🏻👍🏻🤣😂🤣😂
Gotta love Eric and Ernie's humour. From the land down under.
My favourite sketches from morecambe and wise are “The house of terror” and “Robin hood” they are available on UA-cam but in two parts better to watch both parts together
That's the real question master from the real show.
As a kid my dad would often get mistaken for Ernie Wise, the more he denied it the more they would ask for his photo and Autograph! 🤣. Do he would tell them to F- Off!
When someone cough's in a Morecombe and Wise sketch, Eric Morcambe always says Arsenal; which is a football team based in London England.
Get a kick out of someone seeing them for the first time. They were so good.
I got the Decider one right - Am I the Mastermind too ? - If I am that's 1 for me !
Because you love Yes Minister Connor, try the anti version, The New Statesman, all eps avails on YT, nothing else quite like it!
More-cam-bay and wise 🤣 funnily enough there is a morecambe bay in the UK
If you want some older stuff, Pete and Dud is a laugh. (Peter Cook and Dudley Moore)
Need to watch these two in the Breakfast sketch. No dialogue in it, so you needn’t worry about the “lingo” 😂. One tip if you watch it, the music is called The Stripper! Don’t worry it is broadcastable 😂
eric and ernie (morecambe and wise) were comedy gods in the uk in the 70s and 80s. however,, half of their comedy came from knowing and understanding their comic relationship - they flopped in the US because of this.
The Cough/Arsenal (soccer club) running joke, was he wasn't allowed to say arsehole.
Eric Morecambe was a huge supporter of Blackpool Football Club, I think he was honorary President, and was at most games.
Because he disliked Arsenal, the name was used in a knowing way with the audience.
Thought it was Luton Town for Eric where he was a Director
@High Path Of course it was !!!!!
🙄😳😳😳😳😳😳😳🤡
What do we think of it so far?
Rubbish … although Luton were pretty good against Chelsea this week.
Blimey. I must have seen this one last in . . . 1974!
Correct!
Have you seen the 2 Ronnies Version ?????????????
The cough and "Arsenal" is a long running joke of theirs... See here...ua-cam.com/video/ZjGrf9Okj4o/v-deo.html
The Two Ronnies also do a Mastermind sketch with brilliant word play (ua-cam.com/video/y0C59pI_ypQ/v-deo.html).
Please take us on a tour and show us HP Lovecrafts house Conner
10 out of 10
React to the two Ronnie mastermind.
Not Morecamby! Morcum.
It's not morecombee,it pronounced mor-kum,after the seaside town morecombe
M&W were great but I prefer The 2 Ronnies version of Mastermind
I'm from the UK and I've never actually watched these two, they're not bad. Dick Emery, (The Driving Lesson in particular), Little Britain Fat Fighters, and Harry Enfield (particularly the Gay Son Sketch) , Dick, Matt and Harry are hilarious, well worth checking out, and reacting too maybe?
Morecambe and Wise watched by up to 28 Million in a population in that era, of 55 million and they are "not bad".
A bit like saying Lionel Messi or Beethoven or Einstein were "not bad" in their respective fields:)
Your thirst for knowledge is surprising. You're so keen and it's refreshing to see. But would you have the same thirst for other subjects like philosophy and ethics, for example? Only cause those are subjects I like, no hidden meaning. Otherwise I am impressed by your passion to learn. It encourages me to do better.
Have you ever checked out cheese rolling? ua-cam.com/video/cvuktushEhY/v-deo.html
"More-cam" and Wise. He's not African :)
There are far better clips you could watch on Morcombe and Wise. They had a wonderful variety show and were multi talented...Morcombe always playing the silly one...great stuff that I grew up on. Look for clips of Tommy Cooper...another silly English comedian who was very funny (he died on stage...right where he would have wanted to).
I’m not getting your notifications.
Not pronounced More Combi but Morecom b and e are silent.
You’re nearly as funny as your clips :)
A cough and Eric shouting out Arsenal [An English football team] is no more than a catch phrase.
Please, please, please watch, you don't have to react to, just watch, I think it is right up your street. How I broke the world record for the longest kill. British sniper.
Two Ronnie's mastermind sketch is much better than this
It’s okay McJibbin, only old people find this sort of stuff funny. You shouldn’t be made to pretend you find it humorous.
Thank Heavens I feel vindicated and laughed out loud when I realized I am nearly 68. I would have hated to laugh, inappropriately.
Anyway, I must away as I am in the most fearful rush as I am linking with some peng ting, tonight....
