I love the flavor that miniscule amount of buzz brings to the table. It's virtually impossible to rank these from best to worst. I hear clear differences between them but couldn't choose a winner. This video is definitely a resource for all people interested in different Spector sounds. -pac
I feel NS-2A sound is similar to EURO, I prefer NS-2, though I own a euro 4. the maple fingerboard version is cool, the sound is punchy and powerful, and more detail than the other two
All three sound good. The NS2 has the most refined sound, but I am surprised at how close the Euro gets, aside from the much higher treble range. I bet with the treble turned down to flat, it would get even closer to the HAZ. The KHAZ gets closer to the HAZ but seems to lack a tiny bit of liveliness or bite. Are the strings the same on all three? I wonder how much of the Euro's zingy top end has to do with the Tonepump, or if it has a brand new set of strings compared to the others. Are they all using the same gauge and brand of strings? Also, the Euro sounded the loudest - how do you have the internal trim pot set?
No, there are different kind of strings on them. All sets are 45 - 105, but the NS-2 has DR Lo Riders, the Euro has Markbass Steels and the NS-2A has D‘Addario Pro Steels. Only thing in common is that all the strings are played relatively the same amount of time and they‘re all steel strings. The TonePump indeed produces a more aggressive and present high end. I tried to set the trim pot at matching level to my NS-2 and once got confirmed by a sound guy that they’re pretty close.
@@Bassman-dk9yc That makes sense. I have a few Euros and the TP seems to sound best with the Bartolini pickups due to those being a little mellower than EMGs. But that HAZ sounds perfect.
@@lf170 The HAZ is a great pre but I’m also a huge fan of the TP although it gets a lot of negativity by some players. I haven’t tried the LT Euros with the Bartolinis but I’m a EMG fan all the way.
@@Bassman-dk9yc Thanks for posting this! I’m impressed with each bass that you played. To my ears, each bass sounded great, and there was only a subtle difference in tone between the 3. They all sounded like Spectors to me! I was also happy to hear that you Euro held it’s own! I own two Czech-made Spector neck throughs, and I like them a lot. I briefly owned a US NS2-J, but it had a bit of neck dive. My retailer had an NS4CRFM on the wall, and once I played it, I knew it was the bass that I really wanted. I prefer the P/J setup, and it has no neck dive. Best regards!!!!
What fingerboard woods are on the Euro and NS-2A? I sounded to me like the mids were much more present on the NS-2 and I am tempted to chalk it up more to the maple 'board most of all, assuming the other 2 are ebony. However I can imagine the NS-2A might be rosewood. I have a Euro LT5 that sounds much more like your NS-2. It's got a maple board, but a 35" scale is probably also helping bring out the mids.
Wow! Thank you for doing this comparison! :) I picked up a black Euro 4 with chrome hardware about a month ago! There certainly is a difference in tone between the NS-2 and the Euro isn't there? Thanks again! Best wishes-Brent
The HAZ preamp has more a "bright" sound. The tonepump is more mellow. I think that's the main difference. The HAZ tends to be more superior IMO. But Instill like the Tonepump on my Euro 4 LX Black Cherry😍
@@Bassman-dk9yc Well I can hear some fret buzz on all of them . I guarantee a Plek and you thunk they play much better . I own eight a mix of EURO and USA and the EURO better set up from factory then USA , but a Plek and they are far better.
All 3 of them sound bloody amazing... but that NS-2 is on another level!! 👌
Thanks bro, I love em all 😁

Thank you!
The White NS2-A sounds bloody great to me, for the value and its sounds - I ranks it the best.
I didn’t think I’d like the Euro the best but I actually do, thank you for the comparison
Count me in to Team NS-2A
Same 🤙
Maple fretboard sounds beautiful.
The first one sounded best. NS-2 USA
Great stuff man, thanks!

Both are rosewood.
Stormbringer is coming ! ;)
Yeah 🤘🏻
Nice comparison, I always thought that the NS-2A had dot inlays...are there stickers on top?
Thank you! Yes, there are stickers.
Yes sir can tell by the 12th fret being two crowns vs one

Hi Brent!
Congrats to your new bass - you can’t go wrong with a Spector! Yes, the Euro has a dirtier tone, the NS-2 is more hifi. Both are great.
@@Bassman-dk9yc Thank you. Yes that's what I was thinking too. Grittier?
@@brentheathersimons7042 Yes, grittier, more aggressive, growlier.
What is the 2nd riff you played each time?
Bon Jovi - You Give Love a Bad Name
what is this live thing?
Wuao great play through, so the first one is an NS-2
Second one is a Euro and the third is an NS-2A ?
Thank you! Yes, exactly.
Whoops I forgot to ask what strings you were using on each bass?- Thank you- Brent
NS-2: DR Lo Riders
Euro: Markbass Steels
NS-2A: D‘Addario Pro Steels
All 45-105.
Stay safe!
@@Bassman-dk9yc Nice! Thank you. I have a fresh set of DR Hi Beams on my Euro. Take care man!-Brent
I'm between the NS-2 and the NS-2A.
which model is the white one?
NS-2A
oddly enough the NS2A sounds better to me.

I think the NS-2 might just have dead strings but I personally liked the Euro the most.
spector sounds weird to me, it is caused by the emg pickups or what 😰 I like how it sounds
EMG, neck through, and the classic 80s Spector sound comes from the HAZ preamp as well
How much does haz preamps cost? @@ionehkontehdiabo7627

They all need decent set up . Get them put through the Plek Pro and they will far better .
They all play fine, thank you.

@@michaelmarshall1713 I like to have some fret buzz. I know what Plek is and I see no need for a treatment right at the moment.
@@Bassman-dk9yc Your basses . But I challenge you to get one of them done and see the difference and then see what happens next ?
PLEK is massively over-rated. A skilled luthier will get you where you want to be, including making player-style customizations...and for less cost.
Euro 4LX being shamed by the others. So buzzy and thin. NS-2A also pretty buzzy
That's just crap setup of the action making it sound 'buzzy'.
