I just read through all of the comments and all of my questions were answered. Just wanted to say thanks for posting this and replying to those below. Great vid
hey just started watching some of your vids and im impressed my pops is coming out here from la for a few days and I need some spots any recommendations I max out at 20 feet or so and my pops can hit 50 or so anything we could both enjoy spearfishing?
Hey, I am really wanting to get into spearfishing and getting ready to buy my first wetsuit. What do you dive with and what thickness suit would you recommend for Monterey?
Any two-piece open cell wetsuit will work for Monterey. I use a Yazback Snyper suit, Yazback no longer makes this suit as it is an older model but brands I would recommend checking out are SpearPro, Pathos, Subcraft, but like I said, any two-piece 7mm opencell wetsuit should work.
Hey I'm brand new to spearfishing and just got my gun today is there any good spot to go to that are for beginners and not too deep as I'm still practicing holding my breath
There are several spots around Monterey Bay that are great places to learn to free-dive. Otter Cove and Lover's point (West side of the point) are both relatively shallow near shore with opportunity to see and spear fish. Good luck!
Greatywhite Bait I went to otter cove this past Sunday and got two fish and missed a good size lingcod do you know when a good spot to get lingcod or sheep head
Your guess is as good as mine, that's the thing about fishing in general, you never know for sure where the fish are going to be. I have seen both lingcod and sheep head in Monterey Bay and south of Carmel ocean-side near Garrapada. Remember to take a dive buddy with you.
Great job with the pole, that cod thought he was getting a tickling. The game is unbelievably abundant off that area and not much fishing pressure, they do not know what hits them until it is too late. They all make excellent table fare, I can eat thoseeveryday.
you can write an email to Gatku and they make good bands, just tell them the make and model of spear you have, size etc. I recently bought a replacement from them and am very happy with it, you can ask for thicker bands if you are worried about power but I advise you that they are tough to hold
Great video guys! It looks lawesome how you all launched from the shore and rocks. I've done that myself a few times too. Looks like some pretty deep free dives and much respect for using the pole spear. I started off with it and really think more people just starting should use that first, not to say you're just starting. It's also great to have a flashlight to look into those HOLES!! I liked and subscribe to your channel to show support, it be great if you could check out my channel and subscribe if you like my videos.
nice work-great video
Just saw your description. Thanks

that's badass! wow so many fish and quality lings. I usually float over on my kayak but wow it looks amazing underwater and full of life. sick video.
What kind of sling is that?
I'm a cert scuba diver but these vids are inspiring me to free dive and spearfish thanks for sharing!
Of course man! Definitely still keep up with the scuba but free diving offers a unique way to seamlessly blend in with the marine environment.
Love it .. can I do well with a snorkel? Or is scooba necessary for consistent results?
awesome vid! is there a way you can share a pic of how your floatline is rigged on your polespear?
I've been spearfishing in Mexico and Japan and haven't done it in cali. And I'm from cali! Can't wait to get out there. Looks amazing
Ya get out there for sure man!

quick question what flashlight do you use?
Hey I’m new to spear fishing, why brain the fish through the head vs through the eye. I guess why stab vertical vs. horizontal?
its way easier and faster
how deep is his, im guessing about 30 ft im a kid and i can barely get to thirty and i want to dive this kinda stuff
I would recommend getting a professional freedive instructor to teach you the proper way to reach new depths.

I use a 1 piece 7mm wetsuit then a 7mill hood with vest
Awesome video man! Digging the Crist you're using. Let's dive sometime!
Really inspiring video! thanks! Do you recommend a certain time of day to spearfish? ie. morning, low tide, etc?

Greatywhite Bait sounds good thank you
Sweet video man I've always wanted to spear fish up in that area just never had a chance... do you know if that place is accessible by kayak ?
It most definitely is accessible by kayak, however, on this particular day we shore dove!
What kind of pole spear is that? Looks like pneumatic?
Great job with the pole, that cod thought he was getting a tickling. The game is unbelievably abundant off that area and not much fishing pressure, they do not know what hits them until it is too late. They all make excellent table fare, I can eat thoseeveryday.
Ya most definitely, I find that the conditions in an area that bring fish into are more important than the area that you actually do the fishing.
Where in Monterey is this? Ive only been to pacific groove and pebble beach
Closer to pacific groove than pebble beach ;)
dude that was SO SICK!
Nice footage from a shore dive! What depth range were you around?
35-40ft
Greatywhite Bait haha. Love the username. Kinda scary. I’m from Fresno area and bought a bunch cheap gear to go out there and never have.
Sick vid, that pole spear packs a punch!
badass those rock fish where huge gotta get down there
remember that just getting in the water is a success man wherever you are diving it's about connecting to environment.
Hi Josh, Hi Elliott
I'm doing spearfishing for about 5 years. I'm new to this area. There is any way that we can talk in person? Thanks!
Where in Monterey do you spearfish?
There are too many places in monterey, all of this video was done in one day near Lover's Point though
thats exactly where i thought this was.
excellent choice in pole spears
Crist made some good spears. I hope that Gatku will do them justice going forward.
What polespear were you using? Thanks.
It is a Crist Phoenix 5ft spear. Crist just sold his company to gatku though so I dont know if they are still for sale or not. Good luck
I have an old(about 7 years old) two-piece Crist. How can I buy replacement bands if he sold the company?
you can write an email to Gatku and they make good bands, just tell them the make and model of spear you have, size etc. I recently bought a replacement from them and am very happy with it, you can ask for thicker bands if you are worried about power but I advise you that they are tough to hold
Thanks. 👍
kwarnisplayer hey just call Gatku they can get you setup. They still carry the same models and bands I made, as well as offer more.
badass video! I hope to dive in monterey
Sick video, cant wait to eventually dive monterey
Thanks a lot I hope you get the chance to dive the area for sure!
So bad ass
Thanks!
