One of the best, it feels like he never got the respect or adulation his commentary deserved because he didn't cover the "major" sports like football, cricket or rugby. His WSM commentary was great, but athletics is where he really shined and so many Olympic moments carry his voice behind them. RIP.
Alright Big Zs little getup he did on the Viking press 2:21:09 was almost the most impressive thing he did this whole contest. What an athletic specimen this man was.
@@Altern8One Nah he shook the 3rd stone loose when the 4th stone banged too hard on the pillars. In all honesty, its an equipment failure, and he should have been allowed to continue. Not that in mattered with regards to qualifying. Mariusz the GOAT.
That heat is not good for Svend's viking genes 😂 I think he was by far the strongest man in the World in 2001, but he only won by 2 and 3.5 points against 2nd and 3rd place. Maybe because the heat and humidity gassed him out
Pudz - all time best debut of strongmen. Everyone was just speechless from opening event domination ( 1:31:30: )Everyone is falling and stumbling, almost dead and unable to finish, meanwhile he looked like he had done his warmup and was ready for the actual event.

Sven had the spirit and will but he was edged out by bigger strong guys. The Eastern Europeans came into the game at this time and edged out the Scandinavians.
I thought Johnny Perry was done with the squats after like 3 reps. He did 9. I googled him and learned that he died just a few months after this WSM Finals, at just 30 yo.
@@EVO6- yes, jenkins and marunde were in really narrow strongman elite. The risk is huge. It didnt materialize in recent years, but sadly, sooner or later ,it will.
It's absolutely insane to host a strongman contest in that kind of heat, inviting 300 lb men to experience heat stroke. Plus the cost of flying there. Why did the organizers feel it necessary to globe-trot? Arnold and Shaw classics are held in the same cities every year, which makes far more sense.
They come once every 200 years, gifted by God Pudzianowski. Defying the laws of gravity and physics with sheer determination. Probably the pound for pound toughest man that ever lived. I'm not even a fan I'm just telling it like it is.
Johnny Perry unfortunately passed away later in 2002 due to heart complications as a result of steroid abuse. Always liked Pfister a lot - seemed like a great guy.
One thing I liked about early WSM was the levity. OD Wilson made it fun. So did Jón Páll Sigmarsson ("viking power!") Then it got really serious and competitive later on; exciting to watch but not as fun.
MARIUSZ PUDZIANOWSKI
Paul Dickenson passed away on 26th of November 2024, a great commentator of WSM

Love seeing the heats and learning about the competitors. Thank you
This is so sad disturbing to watch. Johnny Perry Jr died 6 weeks after this. More have passed away since Johnny. Very Sincerely, Mrs Johnny Perry Jr
Very sorry for your loss. This sport along with bodybuilding has taken many lives. It is truly sad.
It's hilarious, in hindsight, to hear the commentator questioning if Zydrunas Savickas will be any good at lifting overhead.

To be fair, he was pretty poor at the Viking Press in the Euros that same year. But yeah, he went on to be okay I suppose 😆

I honestly thought Pudzianowski was going to put the shield back in the slot at 150 meters. He didn't even look winded when he dropped it.
