Clawshaper damage actually does not count for parses on Aly, nor does dog damage on Shannox, so spreading combusts, chain lightning, etc is actually a dps loss for parses.
What's your take on using heroic non-tier set pieces over normal tier set pieces (for the 4-pc insta LB bonus; I understand 2-pc is a must) Does the stat upgrade of a heroic item outweigh the value provided by the instant LB's while using 378 tier set?
There are times where the heroic 391 non tier peices, without tier set bonus, are better than normal 378 with the tier set bonus. You need to do a sim on the gear to see which is more dps. On my Shaman, 391 Clawshaper Gauntlets, and 391 Thoracic Flame Kilt, sim as more dps than if I used both normal tier peices and had my 4pc set bonus.
The instant Lava burst might be better on a fight with consistent movement, but i'm not sure exactly HOW MUCH it would help. I don't have a solid answer, I just go with whatever the sim says is best.

@ would it also depend on the amount of movement during each fight, like alys
