3rd option is too much to ask from him. Having him take klebber role will be great as a starter. And if he can start by the end of season as an improve version of djj we could ve happy.

Play Hardy more in the regular season next year. Hardy had a lot of talent and now is the time to see what we have got.

Especially Kai coaching is the biggest weakness of this team even beyond the 3pt shot/free throws.
There are very few guards who are better off the ball than kyrie yet the only off ball stuff we ran against the Celtics was for luka.
Luka is the only person that never needs much of a play call to get a shot and he’s the only one getting plays called for him.
NBA coaching staffs are huge in not sure if the blame falls on kidd but somebody’s gotta step up in that department

The three-point shooting is a must requirement for Washington, Jones, Livey, Kleber, Exem, Hard, and Green to really work on this summer. If they can raise the three-point percentage to above 40% would be a great help to the team's offense. The offense needs to add a lot more movement from the other players besides Luka and Kyrie. They cannot be standing still watching Luka or Kyrie attack the defense that makes it too easy for the defenses to keep them covered.

I think in order of need the Mavs should be concerned with trying to fill 2 spots. I dunno HOW they go about filling them but I feel like the Finals showed that Dallas really NEEDS these spots.
    1) A 3rd ball-handler/scorer/creator. They had counted on THJ & Exum this season to be that guy. But they both were MIA for the playoffs. Hardy carried that role really nicely during a good stretch of the playoffs.
And I think that's where the Mavs have to hope in. They have to hope Hardy becomes that guy who plays opposite of Luka or Kyrie and can help run the offense while getting like 16 & 3.5 assists a night for you. The key part being "a night for you". Just like the Mavs need Luka or Kyrie on the court 82 nights a year...they need that 16 & 4 for 82 games. None of this 28 points a night from November to January and just 8 points a night from February to April...and 0.3 points from May-June.
    2) They need a stretch PF or smallball C. Basically I just want a Maxi that I can count on. No more missing 40+ games a year. No more having to wait for his shot to come around after having missed the last 35 games. I dunno, is there a Dollar General Markkanen or Siakam out there for the Mavs to acquire?
I just want a little flexibility with lineups at PF. Don't want to rely on 6'7 PJ to ALWAYS be taking on the AD's, KAT's, Gordon's, Zion's, Giannis, etc etc night after night. I'd like to be able to throw a 6'11 guy at them and in spurts be able to also handle Gobert, Joker, Sabonis, etc etc.
    ...........
I feel like that the REAL hope for this coming season is Lively. It would be great if Hardy became that 3rd playmaker for the Mavs. And it would be great if Maxi could play 70 games this year and he was shooting like 38% from 3. But those are just really depth type of moves. They don't move the needle & get fans excited for the coming season.
Lively's improvement is where the Mavs fans can dream of Championship Parades. If Lively can take a big Year 2 step and become a legit 3rd stud then the Mavs should be like the 1-3 seed and have an easier path to the Finals.
Like it really does take 3 to win it all these days. Boston may just be a Super-Duo but they had a roster where dudes could just step in and be a 3rd stud depending on the matchup. For most of the year and some of the playoffs it was Porzingis. But for some of the year and most of the playoffs it was Holiday. You could count on them giving you 20 points and good defense.
So can Lively become that 3rd stud on a cheap rookie deal? Can Lively, even if it's still as the 6th man, give you like 14, 10 & 2 blocks a night? Just give me a decent double-double average and some strong defense for Year 2.

Bobby Portis, Bucks: The Bucks probably aren't eager to move Portis, especially since he just closed the season with a strong playoff series against the Pacers, but their hands are tied. They have very little in the way of draft capital or young players and they absolutely need to add perimeter defense. Portis is the most valuable player they can offer without breaking up their core.

  • @simoncove1

I’ve written this elsewhere… they are not gonna get the finals again unless things improve and obviously they’re not gonna beat the Celtics. They got massacred by the Celtics…. The thunder will be a lot better as will the nuggets.
They need better shooting from above the arc and Lucas usage needs to go down obviously. He can’t get through a full season and a good play-offs with that usage.. he needs to come into the season on the back of a preseason of a little bit of weight loss (preferably shredded) and some footwork/gazelle/dance training. If he does that, he’ll be better at defence and they wont bother attacking him…. He will get more lift on 3’s also etc etc
If Luka is in awesome shape and his defence is at least decent, the rest of the team will practice like crazy also. I mean if PJ believes that Luca can lead them to the promised land, he will practice threes forever, but if he thinks that Luca isn’t in shape and they’ve hit the ceiling then he’ll drop down a few percent points.
They need to build on this season. The loss should hurt and it was a heavy loss in the finals.
Also Kyrie didn’t have a great series so what do they do there….? Is Kyrie the answer - I mean to win the finals. That’s a tough question because he was pretty good for most of the season. They need a reliable 3rd playmaker and a scorer 3rd scorer preferably someone tall.

@@AO-rz1ufyeah I mean what we all hate is wasted talent and it feels like Luka needs to just get that extra bit of fitness to hit his maximum… I don’t think I’m alone in saying that I’m a bit worried that he’s gonna come out next season and be in decent shape but not international athlete shape and therefore I would feel he’s not maximising his talent. If you compare him to Djokovic or Cristiano Ronaldo or Noah Lyles…. If I was Paul George I’d be asking “is Luka going to be at shredded level?”. I’d want to go where my best chance is of winning. Say you could go to the thunder with sga or mavs with Luka. Luka has a higher ceiling but sga I reckon can play at his really high level for 10 years because he doesn’t look like the kind of guy who’s gonna get injured because he’s not carrying too much weight plus he’s not got the highest usage. We’ve all seen superstars that have not hit their potential.
I’m being hard on Luka as I want to see his maximum and I think his ceiling is top 10 ever territory. Just want to see that and no doubts or regrets.

Seems that coach needs to stick with advantages, and it’s no longer small ball. Arguably, last game was lost when coach went small ball at end of 1st quarter. I’m not an OMax fan, yet - with lack of fluidity and outside shot, seems like a football player trying to play basketball.
Nico letting Brunson walk was huge mistake, for which the team paid dearly to try to correct. Hopefully, some magic can be found with resources the team has. Maybe the biggest improvement will be development of Lively and protecting health and improving fitness/muscle tone of Luka.

I’m spamming this to make it happen. Miles Bridges stock is super low for obvious reason. BUT… Dallas could package THJ/Maxi/and a 1st in a sign and trade. That probably clears the cap space for him on the Mavs side. The hornets get a versatile role player in Maxi, an Expiring contract in Tim and a first round pick. If Bridges just signs with another team in a non-sign and trade they get nothing in return. I’m sure Miles would rather be in a winning situation if he can’t get top dollar for his talent as well and would probably want to help the Hornets out after everything he put them through. Hes a perfect third option type guy. I think he averaged like 23 ppg last season. Depending on DJJs market, you may be able to bring him back too in that scenario.

      @invisobill2125 3 місяці тому +2

No, it didn’t. One move could be Paul George. The Mavs didn’t get beaten as badly as people want to portray. Games 2 and 3 could have easily been wins, they were right there and some fouls and non calls and bad decisions ended things. Games 1 and 5 were convincing Celtics wins, showing they are the superior team where the good nights are more frequent. But one good player has the Mavs winning those two close games potentially.
Luka being fully healthy, Lively improving, all their young core improving like PJ (25) Gafford (25), Hardy (21), Green (23). The Celtics have little to no room to improve, they are maxed out, everyone is in their prime except maybe Tatum or Brown who could slightly improve but are likely playing at their best already like Luka probably is. I think one good to great piece could be enough.

As a MFFL, I would like to get back to a fact that few people have pointed - and I can totally understand, because you don't want to look like you're searching excuses, or disrespecting the Celtics.
The Mavs totally ran out of gas. And even with a few days of rest before the Finals, it was obvious they're gonna have to pay the price of their path.
Let's resume, for Boston : Miami without Butler, Cleveland without Mitchell, and Indiana "almost" without Haliburton.
For the Mavs : Clippers (yes I know, without Kawi), OKC and Wolves - with Luka playing injuried most of the time.
My point is that the difference of level between the two conferences is more and more laughable each year.
So when I read comments - from Celtics fans or others - that say the Mavs were "destroyed", "humiliated", that "they will need much more than one move this summer to be competitives", well I think it would be nice from those people to be a little bit more... "objective" ?? Maybe show a bit more of respect ??

The Mavs had a great season but, to take the next step, they should add someone like:
    Péjå Stojákövic 6'10"
    Marcus Camby 6'11"
    Dennis Rodman 6'8"
    Steve Kerr 6'3" and
    Ben Wallace 6'9"
To replace the dead weight on the team that contributed so very little:
    Morris
    Kleber
    THJ
And, the young developmental guards. I totally trust the management of the Mavs to get the necessary pieces [2 more 3 points shooters, 2 more bigs and 3 great defensemen].
They can play 10 deep on everyone except the Celtics. Against them, only 9 can hold up:
    Luka
    Kyrie
    P.J.
    Brown
    The 2 centers
    Dante
    Green
    Hardy
But, to contend with the elite A-N-D defeat Boston in a 7-game series...they must improve on the backend. Release and replace the other 6 players with big, physical tall, defensive minded players + a 6'11" Péjå Stojákövic type player that rebounds and can hit the trey + an unselfish pair like Rodman and Wallace that will do the dirty work...and another 3 point guy that will hit 50% from deep.
With that they'll win 60+ games and beat Boston.
Luka absolutely must learn to play without the ball in his hands. The "Triangle" offense could be an option. More emphasis must be placed on perimeter defense. Derek Lively needs to shoot the trey more; Dante Exum should be the leader of the 2nd unit, the QB and facilitator.
Hardy needs to be our "microwave" [Vinnie Johnson] off the bench. They need 2 big, beefy "enforcers" willing to kick ass if needed to protect Kyrie and Luka when frustrated teams get physical with them.
Generally speaking, for elite excellence, they need:
1.) toughness with an edge à la Rodman & Wallace.
2.) 50% excellence from the 3 à la Pèja and Kerr.
3.) Play up tempo, share the ball and rebound ferociously.
4.) Develop a 2nd unit led by Exum with Hardy scoring but with at least 2 great defenders.
5.) Find 2 guys for enforcers that put the fear of God in opposing players who even think about tripping Luka or "accidentally" hitting Kyrie in the face.
6.) Have a come to Jesus meeting with Luka:
    Get in shape/stay in shape
    No pouting/fighting refs
Work on 3 pt & midrange
    Lead...
To be clear...he wants to be Pistol Pete Maravich [score 40 ppg with 2 assists while teammates watch] but N-E-E-D-s to be Magic Johnson [working the refs, a coach on the floor, calling plays, making sure everybody else gets points and touches the ball...while purposely holding back unless we get down by 15 or down to 5 seconds on the time clock or it's the last 5 minutes of the game.]
7.) Study Magic, Isaiah and Stockton. Strive 2B the '96 Bulls, the '86 Celtics, the '76 Trailblazers or the '72 Knicks with a perfect blend of offense & defense...but the 2004 Pistons were the epitome of what we should try to become with 5 unselfish players led by 2 scorers, a bunch of role players and a savvy coach.
    Get it?
    Got it??
    Good...

      Lol NO.
Why do you want limited, no-skill bigs and unathletic defensive liabilities like Kerr?
They literally had those in people like Curry, and various bigs that had no offensive skills.
Mavs literally just lost to long, versatile skilled wings and bigs and you want to lose harder?
The answer is not-injury prone, not-choker Paul George. Not Dennis Rodman or Marcus Camby WTF. How low is your BBIQ to want unskilled Rodmans and Cambys in a 3pt shooting spacing league?

Study to be Magic, Isaiah and Stockton? WTF does that even mean. You want Luka to play like traditional pointguards that are undersized, or play like Magic Johnson who is nowhere the scorer Luka is?
Empty outdated fantasies you got there. 0 BBIQ.
