@@juanma26m Well, it depends where in the 3rd world you live, here the 6600 is cheaper than the 6500xt for some ufatomable reason... But to be honest, if it works for your then it is ok, not all GPUs have to run CP2077 at 4k Psycho Ray tracing at 120 fps to be good, some of us like/can only afford to play at 1080p and as long as the fps is high enough and the experience is smooth enought then it is ok. In Australia the RX 6600 can currently be had for $290-$320 AUD.

I think the RX 6500 XT is a great option for those who live in an area where the price difference isn't as close as this.

I opted for the 5600 xt because it outperforms the the 6500 xt by a large margin. I do see the value some people find in purchasing new, and the 6500 xt can absolutely game at 1080p.

The problem with this card isn't how it performs on a modern platform with PCIE gen4 or 5.

Also for 30-40 more ya could get the 5700xt which doubles the performance. If cost isn't the issue and size/pcie cable is the restraint. then the 2060 makes more sense ($80 more though) and at this point either way it's second hand.

@@Dracossaint and I'm saying that at 120 to $150 brand new, because of warranty does matter to people, you don't have many better options. They are still selling GT 1030s for $100, they're selling 1650 for 160 to $170 this will outperform all of that. Even on Gen 3 lanes of PCIe. And it's going to pair decently with almost any CPU that you can afford brand new around 120, including the ryzen 5500, and that supports PCIe 4.0 on the right motherboard. With careful part selection, this isn't the worst GPU ever released. It attains playable performance in most games that people want to play today, while there are better options, the Intel Arc a580 kicks ass at 160 to 190, there are definitely better options including the 2060/ext. if you were willing to go used. On the new market, there's nothing that really compares right now.

I'd like to point out that other than the bad reviews, the major reason it was never scalped is because Ethereum miners couldn't use it - the DAG was over 4 GB already so you would be unable to mine ETH on this card. You could mine other alt-coins but the profitability just wasn't there. For 1080p gaming, I play quite a few games some of which are badly optimized, it works fine ... the only game I can't really play with it is Star Citizen.

I'm still in the hate it club. When it came out, it was a mobile chip slapped on a pcb, 2 video outs, no encoder, barely faster than rx 480 from 2016, if I recall well even higher msrp, but with ridiculously high street price. It felt insulting.
Today, as far as I know, 6600 has better price to performance. 5500xt is faster, especially on older systems, while being quite a bit cheaper used.
So it deserves t all the hate as far as I'm concerned. If a product makes me uninterested in the market I love, it's a bad product. Too bad those are prevalent now. There's even a rumour floating around nVidia is preventing manufacturers from making Intel cards. If true, I predict I'll be able to keep my 3080 for the next 10 years, as the innovation is stifled. Or until drivers are nerfed.

It's a bad video. He tested the card on a PCIe 4.0 system here, not a PCIe 3.0 one.
A lot of budget gamers are on older PCs that do not support 4.0, which can cripple the 6500 XT or 6400 in some games.
Almost everyone else did test it in their full suite of games. He only provided a few on the original review.
His point is that 4.0 vs 3.0 should only be about 3%, which is true for full x16 or x8 cards. But in reality, 6500 XT by virtue of being x4, can get hit up to 50%.
When you are already limited by budget, it's completely unacceptable to get gimped even more, through no fault of your own.
      Look at it this way.
Are you okay to spending 50% more to get 100% more performance?
      What about 15%?
      That's the difference between $120 6500 XT to $180 6600.
The cheapest budget build with a 12100F is about $440 with 6500XT, and $500 with 6600.
      ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/L7jwwc
The 6600 will not only provide you with a better experience, it will do so for longer, meaning your money goes further.
6500 XT was always a bad value, and it always will be until it drops to a point where 6600 doesn't completely destroy it in price/performance.
Dweeb being a contrarian doesn't mean he's right.
It's giving out poor advice for people that can ill afford said advice.

Glad uploaded this video jusr 2 days ago, cuz I literally just reserved one for $129 at Microcenter open box! Today is the last day for me to pick it up, or it goes back on the shelf. New, this card is still going for 150-160 like you showed. Still the cheapest card using only a single 6-pin PCIe connector.
Why am I so damn specific about what I'm looking for? Because I just saved an HP Tower Workstation Z240 from being tossed. It's a Skylake Core i7-6700 with 48GB RAM and 2x 256GB SSD (one NVME, one Samsung 850 EVO SATA), and the PSU is a proprietary one that doesn't use the standard 24-pin ATX connector for the motherboard so I couldn't replace it. It also only have a single 6-pin PCIe power connector. That really limited me. I wanted to keep it as "stock" as possible so i wasn't about do anything weird like replace the PSU and use an adapter (they exist but it triggers a PSU fan warning). Besides, it's a pet project of mine to put Debian 12 on it and this is the first AMD GPU I'm using with Linux so I want to see what the experience is like compared to dealing with nVidia drivers on Linux. Is it as easy as everyone says? I'll find out soon! I might even make a video about it...

@thecouchtripper If he did a video with 6600 vs 6500XT, it would completely destroy his point of it being a good purchase.
The 6600 was at $250 CAD for a couple of months, which is about $180-190.
That's a 2x increase in performance and VRAM for about 50% increase in price.
Not to mention it's even more increase in performance if his system wasn't capable of at least PCIe 4.0.
For a budget card, they'll often be used in older machines not supporting PCIe 4.0.
PCIe 3.0 basically cripples 6500 XT/6400 at certain games like Doom, Resident Evil Village (nearly 50% performance hit).
The encoders might not matter to everyone, but if someone wants to stream, the cut means they need to depend on their iGPU if they have one.

The lack of stream encoders and native H264 really just keeps me from wanting to upgrade from my rx5500 right. 5 to 10 more FPS in some of the games I'm currently playing isn't enough of a reason for me to upgrade yet. 😅 Though I will admit from a new build perspective this plus a AMD ryzen 4500 or 3600 😊 they pair together well with 16 gb of ddr4 to make a really affordable entry gaming PC. And honestly not enough people are talking about it. If you're just trying to get your foot in the door and wait for good hardware to be released at you know civilian accessible pricing. Then yeah it's definitely has a place in a PC in 2024. The only reasonable competition it has right now is the Intel a580. Being easily found on sale from 150 to 180 bucks, if you find one on the lower end of that scale, it's really competitive with this. But for 120 bucks you just can't easily beat this

i determined the limit for GPU that my CPU can handle, and after that i bought RX580 (saphire nitro+) but later, i discovered that RX6500xt have simillar performance, while being more energy efficient and as a result - cooler and more silent (witch is important to me), but unlike 580 it have 4 gb of vram
i know they both gonna age rapidly, one because of old gpu, other because of vram, and now i can't decide, what do I need more...more vram at the price of silence, or silence at the price of a vram

Pardon? The cheapest NEW NVIdia GPU is not 4060 for $300 (more like $320 from what i've been seeing); it's the 3050 for $220. It hasn't been replaced by a new model yet, so it's even current, not only new. Not that i'd call it particularly good by any stretch, but it's there if you need it, and it even comes with 8GB on board. And it's not SLOW slow, like it works for just about anything you need it to.
Furthermore there's some more options in the middle. Like the very dishonestly named 3060/8GB for $260 and the 3060/12GB for $290. These are leftovers of course, but they might last a while? Who knows.
But yeah at $150 there's nothing quite there to give this XT competition.
You know what manufacturers could do to make it look more attractive? So it turns out there is such a thing as DisplayPort splitters. Active chips which take one DisplayPort and give you several, and you can connect several monitors onto there and the GPU recognises and drives each monitor separately! As if you had a bunch of ports, right. Because multiple displays with different timing requirements on one port are foreseen right in the standard. Now when you buy them as a product, they turn out a little expensive, but bet they could do this on a GPU and it wouldn't raise the manufacturing price by more than $5, because power circuitry could be absorbed/simplified and a lot of other costs are already just there on the GPU PCB, you don't pay extra to have coils picked and placed because there's already some on there, there's already 4+ layers, etc. Add $10 or $15 to retail price, fill out that rear bracket with 1-2 more ports, sure to hook some people no? Because you know some people right, they look at a GPU and think, uhhh i really might need to connect another monitor on there.

I long for a review, where you are simply shown, this card does this and that good and bad. Leave price out of it. If the consumer can't do a cost/frame calculation themself, then we are shit out of luck as a species.
That being said, negative reviews has as you mentioned, made the card so freaking cheap that I've sold of dozens of 1050TI for more than the 6500XT I've replaced them with. New warranty, more perfomance and money in my pocket. Not to shabby

If you just want to see the performance you can easily see that, on techpowerup, you can see the relative performance between the gpus. There is a bigger story to tell other than just performance. One problem with that approach is that most people won't consider the price, they'll see lower performing GPUs as bad without knowing that they actually give you more performance per dollar compared to the competition. The price was the reason I revisited this gpu in this review, because the price has dropped so low that it makes it a better choice than it was before, and I want people to know about that.

This thing lack 2 things (good encoding and vram) i would have bought the gpu. (If it were from nvidia like a cut down varient of 3050 8gb)
😅 Now i have a more powerful i mean even more powerful than 6600. Which is a750.
This gpu is crazy for so many workloads. (Mostly amazing for productive and encoding workload)
Gaming performance is around 3060. More or less.
;| 6500 xt is good but not recommended.
And there is another reason not to buy this.
    1. Strix halo is coming.
    2. Strix point which is less powerful than strix halo but strix point also has 16 cu just like this 6500 xt but strix point is much newer based on rdna 3.5 un like rdna 2 6500 xt.
:) Now the strix point original varient has 4 zen 5 and 8 zen 5 c core as far as i know. Which would be much more powerful than my current 12400f for sure.
8000g series might bring some good value apus. Which might outperform 6500 xt.
Why would i buy a gpu which is not as good as an upcoming apu.
:) + I can buy newer ddr5 ram. Which is really cheap now days.
:) I might buy a strix halo device. Which would be most probably a mini pc with a good cooling syatem. @_@ I'm just hoping for it to be cheap. U know I can't spend 1000$ for it. 😅 I can buy it for maximum 750$ to 800$ or 900$ maximum for 32 gb and 1 tb varient. Like the beelink 7840hs which is kind of reasonable at the price to perform ratio as of now
Strix halo 40 cu performs on per with 4070. (Leaks) (idk how they test it)
