So excited to discover this video series after all these years! Blades in the Dark is my favourite, a friend introduced it to me last year and I quickly fell in love.
@@spudsbuchlaw He was a mysterious NPC in a Warhammer Fantasy series I ran, which I later adapted into a chapter in the Lady Blackbird series. You can get the PDFs of all the chapters for free here: johnharper.itch.io/lady-blackbird
In this older demo vs the newer hardcover edition, there are a few changes I noted: the "Murder" action rating seems to be split up between Prowl and Skirmish depending on the fictional positioning. There is no "force" roll, the effect is now ranked as a GM slider from none-limited-standard-great-etc. (0-3 clock ticks) The point person/back-up roles have been streamlined into Teamwork supports: anyone can lead a group action for stress failures, anyone can setup or support for better positioning or +1d When you indulge a vice on downtime, a roll of Insight/Prowess/Resolve recharges stress with the risk of 'overindulging' with consequences if you roll too high. Any other notable rule changes welcome in this thread so newcomers like me won't be confused if they come here for an Actual Play after reading :-)
Going back to watch this after the game is out and the Series has become more developed, it's really interesting to see the seeds of the future story being planted
Been meaning to listen to a game by the master himself but I never get around to it. Does this exist in podcast format so I can listen to it while on the road, please?
Ross Howard not sure if you watch many of these, but interesting to see the game played as intended by the author. For me, the main shift from what we did in our game is the increase in characterisation through narration of action.
There is just a ton of setting here. I like it. The options for friends (with names!) bootstraps my least favorite part of BW circles rolls. Devil's Bargain is a cool variation on "helping dice". Gather Information / Planning is pretty awesome. The roll X, take the highest is a great mechanic. I want more L5R roll X, take Y, though. :) Makes me feel like building up an enormous planning pool for a massive critical moment (in BitD, the _detail_) could be really cool in Empire.
This is great. What a crew. Ordered the game and looking forward to getting my old group back together again. Will even try an online game (such as present circumstances would make necessary).
I hope this clarifies how to properly reward coin to Hawkers. I wanna give constant coin since the clients are always buying but it would probably be too much.
It seems like this has two rolls for position and effect but that they’ve been brought together under a single action roll in the released edition. Is that right?
Blades in the Dark used to be a lot more unforgiving, huh? Makes things a lot more intense, but a fair bit less cool for the PC's. New changes were welcome!
Hi John, or anyone else, I'd there anywhere I can get concept art for Blades in the Dark? I've got the book (and free pdf) and would love to have access to art (also a GM board and thematic dice). Is there a plan to produce some?
Hello John, I noticed you gave Canter a bonus dice for having the same background as his friend in the bar while he was trying to sway her into giving off inprisoned enemies names. Is that an old mechanic or where can i find this rule referenced?

Had to double-take at the name Scurlock. Is this where it originated?
@@sambuckby1114 It's from an earlier game ... but Stras wanted to be connected with his character.
@@JohnHarper Nice!
@@JohnHarper Give us the lore: what happened? Who was Scurlock?

Blades in the dark is my favourite ttrpg, thank you for making it!
Buying your game tomorrow, buddy. Looks like a very cool and interesting gaming experience for a 40+ year gamer.

I also think Background has been replaced with: Take a Devil's bargain OR Push Yourself for bonus dice
I don't think pushing yourself is in this version
What better way to get tips for starting my own campaign than watching the makers play? Im excited!

Picked this book up the other day and as im reading, it tells me to watch folks play it. So here i be.

One of the examples used a character named "Oskarr"
Hmm.... Well played... Well played
3 year necro but arcy is in there too
I'm getting lost (in a good way!) in those character/crew sheets

Ah so this game is Duskwall: Acquisitions Incorporated! Nice! xD
I would love to play a modern crime game with this set of rules. Like LA gang wars type of modern crime. Or like 20s crime. This game is so dope.
Tanner Manner there is a game Cartel being Kickstarter I believe

It's a shame that the audio quality is so bad.
Tried to watch it several times, months apart, but it catches up to me every time.

witch boy wouldn't happen to be based on klarion the witch boy from dc comic would it?
Dnd folks: help how is our game run
BITD folks: watch and learn, the creator himself got a few videos in our system!
If you consider the amount of DnD let's plays to Blades in the Dark, I think that DnD clearly wins by quantity.
@@Synkrottahaha that’s fair
is Oskarr a Charles Dexter Ward?
The amount of times you guys say like is staggering 0_0
Drives me mad
Is it still possible to pre-order this game?
As of one week ago: yes.
Have you heard of _Dishonored?_
22:05
the wurlocks mask reminds me of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, the vampire mask

That's an old mechanic that got cut.

So weird in 2022 watching people meet with Google+!
Wtf XD when I heared "Hungarianish"
Well that was disappointing..
(From the perspective that this was the creator of the system running the game)
Why?
