I feel your pain burning your finger on a hot chip! Hopefully not too much of a blister though 🙂 Do like that cable so may need to make one of those myself at some point too. Good idea indeed Henry!
my pal bought a +3 and we were astounded by the "floppy" drive which , if i remember , was rather stiff little did he know i was busy collecting my pennies and saving up for a MIGHTY Archimedes while soldiering on with my rubber key i would spend hours pressed up against the window of "computer town" our local computer shop looking intensely at the Archie in the window an aside i have ordered the exact same 2-1 scope and meter from ali express nice to see someone using it in real time i always worry i have bought a pile of pony but so far never have
I have repaired a +3 too, unfortunately mine had a bad ula. I build an external gotek for it since I wanted to retain the original floppy. I 3D printed a nice housing for it and added a switch which allows you to use it externally as the internal drive, might be a nice project for the channel, I can provide you the parts if needed.

That is a very neat little cable Henry's made there, clever chap is he.
Just wish I'd had it sooner! All those spectrums I thought were faulty when I'd just forgotten to comp mod them 😂

Make it 3 parts with the +3 AY Sound fix. Fix the distorted audio on the AY circuit.
I don't know how much restraint it took for you not to swear after touching the hot chip but I know I would have been turning the air blue instatntly!
Wasn’t that memory chip showing hot at the thermal camera as you checked it? The left one shows hotter then the other ones at around 7:40
Maybe you an reform MT ram chips by putting them in backwards.
