Back in the day when soldiering wasn't so much about kit... "Robert Maxwell" - the disgraced bloke who fell off a boat? Hawserlaid rope for abseiling - not seen that since I tried it as a kid! We were ahead of the US mil on that. Zigzag tread of the "Boots Combat High" - mine are still serviceable, unlike the many pairs of Assault Boots I've had since the 1980s. Still use them occasionally. Filmed when '90 Patt PLCE first was being introduced - note the early white labels! LC mines - banned now? "Lightweights" proudly worn! Modern H&S probably wouldn't allow those Wombat obstacles - not even wearing helmets. The starter pistol used (and in the programme intro): you'd have thought they'd have used something less wimpy looking... Multi-coloured cam on the substitute bloke - in those days we used to take the mick out of the Yanks for that over-enthusiastic face-painting. No gloves on the range despite the snow - correct skills. No Goretex - modern soldiers would not be happy... I thought this was Sennybridge - but the mud doesn't look red enough. "No more ammunition" - never heard that one before, bit of a mouthful. Running man targets aren't running! Pre "Options For Change": aside from Para Regt, do ANY of these regiments exist in the same form?!

Yes, the fat gangster who went for a swim. In his younger days he saw a lot of combat in WW2. Got the MC for storming a Jerry machine gun position. Whatever you might think of his business practices he had some brass balls on him.

Hi guys, have you already put in a claim for hearing loss? A lot to do with using pipe ranges in N.I. Do let me know and I can provide the details privately. Well worth doing guys. You can request details within your own organisation as they may have been a few that had done it. I'm ex RGJ and have seen many of our guys including other regiments have received compensations.

I have made the final with Scots and paras on
Would love to watch the whole series again, and to see the British Army do this again. It was a lot of fun.

Can we find brave people who try and don’t quit in 2024?
