I am glad that you addressed that his later films seemed to go down in quality - I really only rewatch the older to middle period, but he’s given enough to warrant his classic status. And as you stated, Carpenter always has a sense of dread in his films like no other and every movie has one (if not more) true stabs at pure horror. The future video scene from Prince of Darkness creeped me out more than the entire film itself. I know he did some tv anthology work, but I never seen it - worth while? Agreed that he should have another go at one more film and with a bang.
