You are wise beyond your years. I'm a 68 year old gym rat, been up and down, in and out, gains and losses, made every mistake you're talking about. Didn't get serious and focused until I was 62. Young guns, follow this mans suggestions. He's right on the money
I lost a lot of motivation in 2020 because my gym closed (forever) and bodyweight training isn't my thing at all, but two things helped me to regain (slowly) motivation: 1. home gym. 2. being clear and honest towards myself about my goals. So I'd say to anyone: don't be ashamed and don't listen to other people objectives, wish and so on. If you want to become strong at an unconventional lift and/or only concentrate in a body part like neck or traps, just do it, no matter what. As long as you're not unbalanced and unhealthy, go for it.
I noticed a lot of people who frequently go to the gym lost motivation during lockdown so i think most advice to beginners with new years resolution is to have a solid home practice routine before even attempting to join a gym. I was mostly working out at home pre 2020 and just went to the gym to switch things up and nothing really changed much during lockdown. I just got more serious in investing in a proper home gym instead of the simple calisthenics things that I had tho
Discipline isn't always being about orderly with your work. Discipline also means learning to move even if you are in terrible or chaotic circumstances.
@@Abc-cp8me yes, that's true. To be honest, having a home gym in a way can be compared to growing your own food. You avoid dependence on someone or something else and you have a certain freedom that allows for a better quality of life if that makes sense, in the case of a chaotic scenario like this year. You're already prepared if something happens and you can act and think more rationally. But at least I learned about myself, I learned about what is truly my objectives and that's the most important.
MY GOALS: Sub 45 10k 20 chin ups in one set 1 muscle up Perform an L sit 30 good form push ups May seem easy for some but lockdown showed me how weak my callisthenics really were
Hey, I remember watching your full body routine videos from years ago. You pretty much got me into getting stronger. Fast forward 3 years and I broke the Massachusetts total state record as well as the deadlift record. Wanted to give u a thanks.
One piece of advice I've found helpful for folks and myself (especially after my back injury in April) is: Weakness is not a punishment. It's just a starting point. And where we all start out. So if you've slacked off and gotten weak again, don't beat yourself up about it, don't judge yourself (too) harshly, don't tear yourself down. You worked through the weakness once and you can do it again. And in terms of choosing goals, specificity is awesome as long as you realize that the more specific a goal is, the more specific and STRICT the route to achieving it has to be. The more results you want, the more the result of every tiny decision matters. One less hour of sleep? One or two or three handfuls of nuts per day? One extra ramen meal per week with no greens or protein? One or two extra late high-stress work nights? Each one might seem trivial, but if your goal is specific, like putting on 10lbs of muscle or losing 10lbs weight, these "little" things can hold you back ALL BY THEMSELVES. You matter! Your decisions matter! And once you accept this, you can accept that your goals matter enough to change your life for them. The end Happy new year Alex :) -Mark

All of this nonsense from 2020 just hit me like a ton of bricks. Last New Years I set the goal to deadlift 600lb by June, and I was on track. That kinda go derailed with the gyms shutting down. I'm a little apprehensive about setting that type of goal this year, so I'm pretty much just focused on improving my physique and cleaning up some of my weaker points. Both have very specific criteria to meet, and I have solid timelines in place. Hope 2021 goes better.
Great video, Alex. I'd like to add one more tip: Ignore the negative comments from hecklers. When I first started going to the gym, I had people who doubted me. After a while, I learned any comments were just their own reflection of themselves. Going to the gym for the first time is already daunting as it is, surround yourselves with people who support you.
Really mind opening video Alex, truly. I think the part explaining "setting your OWN goals" is excellent. Too many times do people try to achieve what others have or others want and not what THEY themselves actually want. I also believe that setting realistic goals is the way forward. Set goals that are challenging but realistic. To many people say they want to bench X amount or they want to get to 200lbs bodyweight lean, then they try for 6 months aren't close and give up.. Their goals wasn't realistic. Finding our own path and doing the things that are doable but take work is the most rewarding thing in life. Setting goals you can't reach and inevitably failing just causes mental issues and set backs. Great video, as always!
My new year's resolution was to enter the 400 lb club on the deadlift. And I ended up pulling 418 lbs / 190 kg. Now, my goal for 2021 is to be able to pendlay row 225 lbs for reps. GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS, ALEX! 💪
I’m at a 62.5 pound weighted pull up for 2 reps right now. My goal for 2020 was to get to 70 so I came very close. This year we’re getting to 100 baby! Let’s do this!!!
No slacking for me this upcoming year; I'm gonna be hitting it hard & heavy... Got my split dialed in; a minimalist 3-day full body routine with a complimentary arm day. Looking to get big & strong. 💪
Thanks for yet another great and informative video Alex! Wish you and everyone reading a happy new year and many gains as well as goals crushed in 2021!
Always good stuff from you, Alex. Out of all the fitness youtubers you’ve stayed true to what really works and what people need to hear. Here’s to a productive New Year for everyone!

Just want to wish you a happy new year my guy! I have learned so much from you this year, you give me a big brother vibe. Appreciate you all the way from Brazil!
Hey Alex, just want to appreciate your gain of knowledge and the ability to share it over the years. I theorise that it’s was your increase in reading and your commitment to learning more helped you massively in your journey to where you are currently. I’ve been following you for over 3 years now and I’ve noticed a good progression which has inspired me to learn more myself. I think you need to talk about books and the benefit of learning more. I believe you can help so many people become better and smarter versions of themselves if you enforce the idea slightly more. Happy new year man.
My goal is simple, look like an enhanced athlete while being the best powerlifter I can be. Doing this by treating my accessories with as much respect and intensity as the main lifts. I almost never go to a 10 on squat, bench, or deadlifts, but my single joint exercises are taken to a 10 and beyond every single time.
Investing in a home gym is key, I've been slowly investing in one since 2012 and now I'm set until elite level strength. I could never have imagined the lockdowns but this worked out so well, gains through the roof during lockdown.
Get started and get consistent before you over focus on optimizing everything... I've seen a lot of guys quit when they change their whole lifestyle overnight and can't stick to it. Play the long game, we've got decades ahead of us - there is no rush to be perfect tomorrow.
during lockdown all i did was the down-push-ups and bandwork and a few days earlier i had the oppurtunity to train at a friend´s home gym and to my surprise my bench (my worst powerlift) went up. thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep on! (late novice)
I started a 13 week cut 8 weeks ago and i listed goal weight for every week. Measuring weight every day. Week after week i am hitting that weight no matter what. 8 weeks in and im right where i planned id be. Its all in your mind. If you want results, you will get them. Most people are weak, thats the truth. They dont get things they want simply because they are weak.
How much are you losing each week and what's your cardio like? I started walking lots some days back, looking to get to 80 kgs from around 90ish, any tips?
I eat the same 4 meals a day, i know exactly how many calories they have. Salmon, beef, tomatoes and rice cakes. Every day same 4 meals, 50 grams of protein and around 20 grams of fat per meal, carbs are very low. No cardio, just lifting weights. Nothing wrong with doing cardio, but consistent calorie defecit gives results 100% of the time. You can safely lose 1% of bodyweight a week.
Weighted Dip specialization phase. With OHP volume goals. I want to dip my BW (160) for five smooth reps, no dolphin type shit. Also hit PRs on 5x5 OHP and its variations. I also have the Pacific Crest Trail coming up in March, so that's a big enough goal for now 🤣.
As of this week, I can do a clean chest to wall handstand pushup, which has been one of my goals for months. Just keep focus and follow principles you know to be true.
Thank you as always for the good content it really opened my eyes for some stuff my new goal is to get a bit leaner maybe to around 85 even lower if i can now im around 93 kg my progress in the home gym has been great been doing 3 days full body strengh training but idk if i should switch to someting more like 4-5 days full body i dont know if that will make a differens i terms of keeping the musles i have and the strenght.Happy new year i hope everyone get to their goal and i hope 2021 be better year !
Hey Alex! Last week after chest and back, I went home as usual. The next day, my left wrist felt tight and 1/10 pain only in pronated extension. Rested for a week and tried to go again today, but after dumbbell bench press it felt weird so I stopped, but no pain whatsoever. I recovered from a sprain in this wrist 4 months go, and took 5 weeks to heal. This “pain” is also nowhere near the pain as the one 4 months ago. How do I heal this, and how do I know if I am ready to go back to the gym? Thanks Alex, much love!

Thanks and well said brother!
Whenever Alex uploads a video, I stop whatever I'm doing and i watch!!
i dont know why but alex looks waay healthier than the last cut. Wish you the best alex, you are a true inspiration
Been waiting for an AlphaDestiny video!! Feeling pretty low at the moment and these videos always provide some motivation and improve my mood 👍
Beautiful front lever form
My new year's resolution was to enter the 400 lb club on the deadlift. And I ended up pulling 418 lbs / 190 kg. Now, my goal for 2021 is to be able to pendlay row 225 lbs for reps. GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS, ALEX! 💪
Highly recommend everyone reads/listens to David Goggins’ book

Happy new year Alex u fookin legend 🙌 thanks for all the tips throughout the years bro
Motivating video. I kept stalling and dreading workouts till I 'started low, went slow' and focused on steady progressive overload. Enjoying my workouts now.
Just want to wish you a happy new year my guy! I have learned so much from you this year, you give me a big brother vibe. Appreciate you all the way from Brazil!
My goal is to know what EXACTLY to eat, so please make a food vid Alex! =)
In 2021 I’m gonna get as good as I can in pull-ups and decline push-ups. Keeping it super simple.

Investing in a home gym is key, I've been slowly investing in one since 2012 and now I'm set until elite level strength. I could never have imagined the lockdowns but this worked out so well, gains through the roof during lockdown.
I've got a wife and kids my goals have changed. Fortunately maintaining what I've earnt isn't anywhere near as hard as it was to earn it.
newtons first law in action.

Get started and get consistent before you over focus on optimizing everything... I've seen a lot of guys quit when they change their whole lifestyle overnight and can't stick to it. Play the long game, we've got decades ahead of us - there is no rush to be perfect tomorrow.
I gotta get that 160lb weighted pullup, been stuck at 92 lbs for a while now but I ain’t giving up
@@BaldOmniMan it basically is my main lift, I’m getting stronger on weighted inverted rows but not regular weighted pull-ups it’s weird
Decide what your weaknesses are and a plan to attack them... this mentality goes beyond the gym too!
I love your knowledge
Alex your beard looks clean as fuck in this video
My goal is to add 1 kg to my weighted chins/dips the next session.
The entire journey documented. Amazing progress.
Believe in the process
during lockdown all i did was the down-push-ups and bandwork and a few days earlier i had the oppurtunity to train at a friend´s home gym and to my surprise my bench (my worst powerlift) went up.
thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep on!

Happy new year Alex, hope you hit your goals for this year! More gains to come my brother.
Hey Alex, it would be great if you made a video about mental health, male beauty standards and managing these things
literally by abut 5pm on Xmas I'm motivated to smash the next year, never mind waiting for Jan 2nd. this vid is nicely timed as per
5:46 create your OWN Alpha Destiny 💪💪💪yeaaaaahhhh
Weighted Dip specialization phase. With OHP volume goals. I want to dip my BW (160) for five smooth reps, no dolphin type shit. Also hit PRs on 5x5 OHP and its variations.
I also have the Pacific Crest Trail coming up in March, so that's a big enough goal for now 🤣.
I'm about to start my fitness journey in a few days with your novice program..........great video!!

As of this week, I can do a clean chest to wall handstand pushup, which has been one of my goals for months. Just keep focus and follow principles you know to be true.
