    I did my emergency response course with SCAS in 2011 when I became an ECA. Absolutely loved it. Now I'm an ambulance Technician working for a trust in the Midlands.

      Thanks for your comment Dave - glad you’ve liked the course! I had mine 4 years later and also enjoyed it. Stay safe buddy!

    Getting my C1 licence is on my t-do list at the moment. Honestly, it's the part of the job I'm most worried about!

      You shouldn’t - the DIs are great and supportive and definitely will do everything to take you to the point you should be at! (speaking from my own experience!)

    I wish we had this. Our EVOC was one day on a course with cones. Luckily I've had police and defensive driving training, but most EMS drivers here don't, and our statistics point to that.

      AMR in South Mississippi does 2 day EVOC and 2 weeks with FTOs.

    I did Roadcraft in Australia when I joined an ambulance service. Best fun I could have in two weeks. Giving those V8 F-250s a run for their money on a skidpan!

      Sweet! I think the best we can do here is Skoda (I think it is vRS but not entirely sure). Don’t get me wrong it’s fast but has no “spirit” in it - at least that’s how I feel.

    • @coover65
      @coover65 10 місяців тому +2

      @@groupcall6570 We don't have the Skoda vRS here. The only Octavia we have is powered by a little 1.4L petrol motor. 26 years ago when I did my Roadcraft they also used police pack 4.1L Ford Falcon sedans. The instructor had a switch near the passenger seat that could switch the ABS on and off (ABS was still new then). Just when you got comfortable making sharp 90 degree turns on the skidpan, he'd turn the ABS off and you'd have to learn it all again.

    Looking to pursue a career as a paramedic, are the UK ambulances mostly automatic now in 2022 or still rely on manual gearboxes?

    • @groupcall6570
      @groupcall6570  Рік тому

      Depends on the provider, mate. For example the one I work for (NHS Trust) had only manual ones. When I joined in 2015, they introduced Mercs which were auto and till now almost 90% fleet was auto. Sadly, big and expensive Mercs are being replaced by Fiats which are smaller and cheaper but… manual! Anyway: in my trust atm approx 60-70% trucks are manual. Unfortunately I have no idea how it looks like with different providers.

    NEVER let the medic drive... leave driving to the professionals.... the EMTs.

      If everyone is equally trained on driving, it does not make a difference.

      Haha! Love it. Not possible in countries like Australia where only paramedics are legally allowed to work on ambulances.

    wait... they _still_ require you to shuffle the steering wheel?
    dear god, this is awful!

    • @groupcall6570
      @groupcall6570  Рік тому +1

      Yes mate, still shuffle-shuffle. I didn’t like initially now I can see the logic behind it
