31:10 Because when the season premiere episode first aired, it was HEAVILY promoted, in the episode trailers, etc, that Spike was going to be in it, to increase ratings for the episode. We all first time watchers were already spoiled on it by the time it aired. It's just that what we didn't know was HOW he was going to come back. So it was still a tiny surprise lol
Also Dakara, they put James Marsters in the title before the big reveal because at the time it originally aired TV Guide stupidly put him and David Boreanaz on the cover and actually revealed he was going to Angel before he even died on Buffy so those of us that saw it back then knew even as he was dying that he would come back somehow on Angel. Didn't make his death effect me any less though. I was still sobbing that night 21 and a half years ago lol.
Incorrect. It was a well known fact Spike was coming to Angel that was announced by Whedon himself before the finale of Buffy Season 7 aired and before the finale of Angel season 4 aired to drum up interest in Angel season 5 because Angel was going to be cancelled at the end of Season 4 but because Whedon was able to get James back to play Spike in Angel they extended the show another year and they heavily advertised and announced it. Hence why it is in tv guide. Because Whedon promoted the hell out of it.
A fun fact: Spike’s foreshadowing to be on Angel was his dream in Buffy’s Finale about being surrounded by shoes. A reference to the first episode of Buffy when Cordelia starts to befriend Buffy saying re Buffy coming from LA “Being close to that many shoes.”
Dakara, you weren't the only one who shed tears for our blondie bear Spike. Nope. We all did. And just like you, we all got goosebumps and screamed, jumping and cheering, rejoicing at the fact that William the Bloody is back. Heck yeah! 😎❤ And you thought Harmony was the real surprise lol. Fooled you, huh?
Did you recognize the actor who plays Knox as the same actor that played that psychology student vampire Buffy fought in Season 7 that was sired by Spike?
*It wasn't sure that "ANGEL" would get a Season 5 back then, they've thought about to cancel the show. So the showrunners needed a "Joker" to save Season 5 of "ANGEL"......let's bring back SPIKE (who was bound to the amulet)........and the 5th season was saved......mission accomplished.* ⬅🔥😈🔥
I think it is lore that WRH hired Harmony because of her history with Angel Buffy in Sunnydale like the way they hired Faith but sent her to the Stenopool when when Harmony was useless
Having a whole summer to grieve for Spike made it a little easier to take when he suddenly appeared. I was happy to see him, but in a way it just cheapened the sacrifice he had made for Buffy and the world. The way he went out as a champion hurt, but it was a perfect end to his redemption arc, you know? Still, having him on this season of Angel was hilarious and seeing some comedy infused into a show that had been so dour since Connor was kidnapped as a baby was very welcome. The inclusion of Harmony just makes it all the better.
I couldn't wait for you to post this, Dakara. I couldn't wait to see your reaction to Spike. That's such a great moment when you first see it. And Harmony too. Will not spoil you on what happens with Cordy but knew you'd be upset she's out of the credits. Sorry about that. Thank you for your reactions. Something that makes me smile during the week. Also, hope you feel better personally. I know what it's like to be in a funk like that. Part of life I suppose. Looking forward to 5x2 :-).
Nathan Fillion was in Firefly, Buffy, and a superhero musical, the name of which I’m blanking on at the moment. He likes reusing certain actors. Like Amy Acker was in The Cabin in the Woods and J. August Richard’s was in Agents of SHIELD. I’ve heard talk that if Firefly had continued, Spike may have made an appearance on that show. It would be interesting if they have the same rules.
I think your hair looks pretty good. "Our gang" was a series of comedy shorts that centered around a group of kids, it later became "The Little Rascals". Once again we see that Gunn cleans up very well, Harmony, and yes, Spike will become regulars. Things will get a little strange and then settle out for a bit.
Well you made it to Angel S5 the best Season in the Buffyverse IMHO. From the very start of this episode we can see the improvement in production with much better fight choreography etc. The one take scene in the Wolfram & Hart HQ involving all the main characters is amazing in itself. This one was written and directed by Whedon himself. It is really very much a two-parter along with E2 Just Rewards. The transition to the new base at Wolfram & Hart offices in L.A. is somewhat overwhelming for the gang, but they soon meld into corporate life. The first surprise of Harmony being reintroduced as Angel's assistant gives us BTVS continuation, as we know she is comedy gold throughout, and is one of the most underrated characters in The Buffyverse. Gunn gets the total makeover having been used to download the complete Law into his brain, giving us absolute foreshadowing here by Joss Whedon for the premise of Dollhouse, and of course we have Amy Acker in Lab coat, more foreshadowing for Dollhouse for her part as Dr Claire Saunders. Great scene when Gunn enters the courtroom in a suit so sharp it cuts, and precedes to act as if he just came out of L.A. Law and Boston Legal, and a little bit of Ally McBeal thrown in as well. Great scene also with Angel in the school taking out the complete Black Ops Covert Swat Team. The 'mercy' scene is superb. The final twist of course is back at H.Q. when Angel opens the package and the amulet drops to the floor, Spike is re-born again, giving us the brilliance of his character to cement S5 a great Season.
Haha, that jumpscare at the beginning! Dakara (all confident) : "A solo female in a dark alley ... I wonder what's gonna happen." Then proceeds to almost spill her coffee from the jump ! And the "oops, I got caught" look into the camera 🥇
Hey, I get it. The Buffy finale and Angel season 4 finale aired around the same time back in the day, and they were both rough, not in they were bad but that they were both emotionally draining for completely different reasons at least for me as a longtime fan of both series at that time. It was the end of an era for both shows, honestly. Angel season 5 feels different from the rest of the series. I remember at the time before this season aired being done with the whole Buffyverse, didn't see the point, but I'm really glad I gave season 5 a shot because it's probably my favorite season. My only gripes being it felt short and another thing I'll address when we get to that episode, other than that, still my favorite, so hope you enjoy it as much as I do
No, Lindsey and Lilah went to law school, which I believe they've referenced. Gunn was a special case. Come to think of it, Lilah said she was working at W&H for years before she even heard of the White Room, it was that hush-hush. ...Eve blonde? What? Oh, fun fact, they originally wanted Morena Baccarin (Inara Serra from Firefly) for Eve. .
Dakara if you need another Whedon show do Dollhouse, his most underrated show, tons of Buffverse faces turning up in it, and it was way ahead of its time with Eliza Dushku brilliant as the titular character Echo. Gunn's brain loading here definitely foreshadowing for Dollhouse, along with Fred in the white coat too, as he plays Dr Claire Saunders in that show. Dollhouse a super show to do.
11:50 “Spanky” was a character from the Our Gang series more commonly known by the title Little Rascals. Old black and white comedies staring little kids from around the Great Depression era. Kind of similar in style to the Three Stooges. Slapstick humor and sight gags if I recall correctly. Which apparently means this guy’s nickname has nothing to do with the dozens of BDSM paddles on display on the wall.
LOOOVED seeing your reaction to Spike's return. Angel season 5 is the show's best. Thematically it's a very thorough critique of capitalist corporatism and how it changes people. Excuse the hair?!? The hair is awesome! 😉 Really glad you didn't get spoiled by Spike's resurrection. I expect someone basically summoned the amulet from where it was buried. You've already watched episode 2, so there are some answers. Harmony is my favorite member of the Wolfram & Hart staff, not gonna lie...
That guy that you said looks familiar like he was in the walking dead , He does look like that hitch hiker that was in the bar with Rick, hershal and Glenn trying to set them up , Idk if its this guy but he does look like him for sure.
Can't remember but I _think_ Spike was pre-spoiled even over here (it's a muddle because the "Angel" broadcasts were a bit all over the shop). Either way, clearly we didn't have anyone telling us not to watch the credits so if I missed it, it was more luck than judgement :). ("Blondie bear ?" is so perfectly timed and delivered too)
Last season of angel definitely has a different vibe, I feel they tried getting it more in line with buffy, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. There are some very big swings in it though!
He went out a hero. But Buffy also went out a hero in The Gift, but didn't take away from that when she came back. This isn't the same thing, and it's more than what we've seen yet, but just simply bringing him back would not take away from his sacrifice or his heroism.
Dakara before 5x01: Spike is dead! 😢 Dakara after 5x01: Spike is alive! 😀 It's funny how neither of those is quite right (as you found out in the next episode, IIRC).
You said that girl sounded like a potential.. i thought she sounded like the girl who knew she was gona die, the girl who was in that ritual but didnt die from that but anurism...as for Cordie ... I will tell ya later😅
Have you heard about the Dark Horse comics that continue Buffy? Seasons 8-11! And they are very good and Joss and the Buffy writers are very involved. And you may see Spuffy...

Nice, Buffy ended, but now we get 2 reactions of Angel, glad you decided to skip the intro and watched it after episode 1, made your reaction to Spike's Return so good, season 5 of Angel has a different vibe, because now they are working with Wolf, Ram and Heart, And it is fun because of the Return of Harmony Blondie Bear?😂😂😂
I disagree, Wesley's take on Feng Shui is correct. There is a big difference between a tidy place making one more comfortable and the weird obsessiveness of 'this couch needs to be moved over 2 inches for proper balance' malarkey...
Charisma Carpenter was (infamously at this point) fired for getting pregnant. So she's not a regular in this final season. Joss absolutely did her dirty, in her final plotline and in writing her off the show (not to mention the emotional abuse that's been exposed).
At the point this was being filmed, she was off on maternity leave. The first half of the season was written without her, as she wouldn't have been able to make it anyway.
@menachemsalomon Carpenter specifically detailed "[Joss] proceeded to attack my character, mock my religious beliefs, accuse me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me the following season once I had given birth." This is obviously that "following season", so yes, she was fired from the regular cast this season.
@@ceceliam9014 I think the word "fired" is there is used colloquially, as her character was written out of the story. Actually firing a woman for being pregnant would have opened the door for a major lawsuit, and though Whedon could be cruel and vindictive, he is not that stupid. (I could be wrong, but I've followed the story long enough that I think I have a handle on it.)
@@menachemsalomon I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make... But it's fairly obvious that writing her out of the show is synonymous with firing her. Clearly Whedon was able to get away with it without repercussions considering it took almost 2 decades for any backlash. But suggesting writing her out of the story isn't firing her is a really bizarre take. Since "firing" is slang there is no other way to use it aside from "colloquially"... meaning to be dismissed from your job. That's what happened. He probably didn't directly state the reason was her pregnancy because why would he? But that was the reason Carpenter clearly feels was relevant (and I believe her). Your comments are nonsensical, all I can think is that you're trying to accuse Carpenter of lying.
Agreed re. Vincent. He was the right actor in the wrong role. Conor as written was just too dour a character. They handcuffed his talent. Joss was a bit distracted this year with Firefly, but the Conor problem started the previous season. I found most of season three (post birth) and four a bit of a hard slog the first time. Rewatching is right out. Five is terrific though.
Gotta say I've always had mixed feelings about Spike here.. He's a huge asset to Angel, brings some fun that was much needed. However, always felt that his presence here belittled/diminished the outstanding finale of Buffy. It's also an easy way that writers tend to have too often in Angel (characters that are supposed to be dead and poof, are back, just my opinion there😉)
Man Dakara Im envious of everyone now watching this show nowadays 🤣 Because unfortunately The Idiot Show creator got to big for he's pants! Back when Spike was beating up Wood in Buffy There was a WB Magazine I still have of Spike and Angel and The Cast in the same room!!! So I and probably a lot of people knew he would be okay 😂 Even back then Spoilers!!! Damn monsters!
I wasn't thrilled about Spike joining as I really disliked his character in season 7 of Buffy. I get it, he was recovering from the guilt bomb of being re-ensouled, but Spike had it so much easier than Angel because he was taken in by Buffy whereas Angel had no one. And then in season 7 after I grew fed up of him they did that whole episode of him getting back his jacket & making you think he was going to be useful & then he was just back in the basement. However, after I thought about it I realized that Angel is where most of the secondary characters from Buffy really developed, something that I feel like Spike needs, as his whole identity after getting his soul is about Buffy. Same with Harmony. Ps, my feelings on Spike are my own, I'm aware you enjoyed him & that's fair.
Spike: I wanna see how it ends…
Doesn’t end
Spike is trapped in an unending game of Animal Crossing.
31:10 Because when the season premiere episode first aired, it was HEAVILY promoted, in the episode trailers, etc, that Spike was going to be in it, to increase ratings for the episode. Of course Spike’s dead, Dakara. He’s a vampire. Duh.

I believe that the scientist assistant actor was in Buffy. Played a vampire that had a long conversation with Buffy in the graveyard.

Damn monsters!
wait wheres the season 7 discussion video? i dont see it in your videos
After all the drama with that one overly annoying character, we finally return to the fun that Angel was in the first seasons.
I think you were literally a couple seconds away from spoiling yourself from the intro.

Sadly, Cordy does indeed stay in her coma and never wakes up.
