These are seasoned musicians and it does not take even a remotely refined ear to comprehend that. Most certainly not "beatiung on instruments they've never played before", as you've so eloquently put it. Must we endure another century of neo-luddites decrying anything that deviates significantly from tonality and traditional form? So tired of seeing this crap on contemporary classical pieces. If this is not your thing, that's completely fine, but perhaps take the time to offer something constructive next time or come to terms with your own ability to comprehend the music. This isn't a particularly difficult piece, but it's clearly not for you.
