Fixing a Faulty Ignition on a 841 Ford Tractor
Welcome back to our channel, where we provide helpful tips and tricks for tractor owners. Today, we're going to show you how to fix a faulty ignition on your 841 Ford Tractor.
First, let's gather the tools we'll need for this repair. You'll need a wrench, pliers, a screwdriver, and a new ignition coil and a set of ignition points. Once you have these, we can get started.
Step one is to disconnect the battery to ensure your safety. Look for the negative terminal and loosen the nut with your wrench. Once it's loose, slide the cable off.
Next, locate the ignition coil on your tractor. It's usually found near the distributor, and you'll see two wires connected to it. Use a wrench to carefully remove the wires from the coil.
Now, remove the screws holding the ignition coil in place using your screwdriver. Once the screws are out, you can lift the old coil off.
Replace the old ignition coil with the new one, and secure it by tightening the screws back in place.
Reconnect the two wires to the new ignition coil, making sure they are securely attached.
Replace the Ignition points and set the gap according to the directions on this video.
Finally, it's time to reconnect the battery. Slide the negative cable back onto the terminal and tighten the nut with your wrench.
That's it! You have successfully fixed the faulty ignition on your 841 Ford Tractor.

I'm surprised that tractor ran ok under a load without a resistor. Those old Ford's are my favorite. Keep em rolling!

      I’m surprised too. I’ve got 3 8n’s and a 602 Workmaster. I love the old Fords too!

If my tractor has a 12 Volt coil that says on it "No external Resistor" does it start and run on 12 volts? My points have not burned up and my tractor is just like yours. The wire coming into the coil measures 12 Volts.

Those type of coils vary resistant based on heat as the tractor warms up. Basically running on 9 volts therefore easier on the points. Thanks for the question and watching 👍

For sure. I’m already seeing electric zero turn mowers. I wonder when tractors will come out
