"A lot of it is above my head, but above my head is a place I like to be." What a great comment, and I completely relate to this sentiment. I love being pushed out of my comfort zone by great fiction, and it does sounds like Egan does just that. I should really read some of his stuff!
Thanks max. I liked it too because I feel like I stumbled into one of the main reasons I enjoy his work. Somethings are over my head and it doesn't work for me, but when Egan is over my head, I feel it's still in reach and am trusting the process
Another great one, Michael, Thank you! You've given me the itch to get into Greg Egan - simply by putting him in the company of LeGuin, Bradbury and Delany. I'm a recent fanatical convert to Delany (want to be back in My Bologna!), so your enthusiasm for Egan is a good motivation to find another new author. Keep those tunes coming too!
This is a great video. Thank you for putting so much work into your videos to make them so entertaining. This one seems special and personable and I enjoyed it a great deal. It may not be the common opinion but I like the longer style video too.
Michael, I liked the way you delivered this video. I sounded much more off the cuff and it felt more personal. Your videos are so well produced including music and interviews. You obviously put a great amount of time and effort into them but there is a lot to be said for the feel of two friends just discussing books. I hope you do some more in this style.
How DO you do all this, Michael?!?! You read so many books and produce so many enjoyable programs! AND you are a family man AND an owner/operator of your own business! And you seem so, like, stress free and relaxed. Years ago I taught myself the Cyrillic alphabet and it finally dawned on me that your tee shirt is the Russian word for "Solaris" or "Sol yar iss." Cool shirt!
Another great video, Mike! I love your recap of the songs that you wrote. Also really appreciated what you said about reading the Egan books - kind of just knowing that you may or may not get all the science. For me the experience of a great read is when the story is strong enough to bring me along even if I don't understand all the things. Finishing up The Final Architecture trilogy now.
how genuine!!! Loved seeing your reviews all together! and loved you talking about all your videos in summary. This was a good idea! Hope you keep it up.
Thanks for another great video Michael! Really enjoyed the more off the cuff, discussion style of your commentary in this one. I read Left Hand of Darkness at the start of the year and I already want to re-read, one of my all time favourites now!
Great wrap-up Michael. Always trying to expand my Sci-fi TBR which is heavily dominated by fantasy. Some great sounding reads but Egan and Delany books particularly caught my eye. -Cheers!
This was great, thank you. I just finished my first Greg Egan book, Dichronauts. It was over my head a bit. But that really kept me intrigued, I was gonna try Incandescence next. Diaspora will most likely follow suit 😅
l really enjoyed and appreciated your mid-year wrap, hope you continue that in the future. Beneficial to those of us who miss some of your reviews (sorry). I love the Murderbot series and Matha Wells' characterization of its inner dialogue. I have read a couple of G. Egan's books, but can't warm up to his style, but your reviews encourage to read a couple more. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks John. I appreciate that. I can objectively see why Egan isn't a match for everyone universally, I just know his universes are worlds I want to be in...as an observer
would like to see your proffesional reviews of a) Neal Asher's Polity universe books, b) John C Wright's Golden Oecumene / Count to the Eschaton Sequence series
Recently finished re reads of A Scanner Darkly, Ubik, and Perihelion Summer. Currently re reading Schismatrix and have my eye on a 1st time read...maybe Seveneves, 11/22/63, or The Glass Bead Game. U?
@@FIT2BREAD Schismatrix was cool, I'm a Bruce Sterling fan. I read 'The Glass Bead Game' in Jr High - found it dull ... perhaps I was to young to appreciate it. I haven't read any Greg Egan, but I have 'Permutation City' on my kindle. Perhaps I'll give it a whirl when I finish my current book(s).
@Mike have you done a read lately of 'Lords of Light' it's fantastic transhumanism written in 1967 [iirc] when transhumanism was not really a thing. Its a frequent reread of mine and wanted to share my love of it.
@@FIT2BREADI respect that. I'll add that If you read it through the lense of transhumanism there is no fantasy elements - I feel like people think it will be more fantasy due to Amber. I just love it its one of my all time favorites. I was lucky that Id just read 'Spin' and picked up lord of light after it for a reread and it all clicked into an amazing new focus. I do hope its one you can enjoy mate. looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Great vid, Michael. One of your best.
Thanks. I appreciate it
Beggars in Spain sounds like a horror story. Babies that don't sleep is every parent's nightmare!
Oh God...I know...now I'm having flashbacks ha

I agree with the point of a much more personal style in in this video which I personally like better.

@@FIT2BREAD Took me a while but if stare at something long enough my synapses start firing!!!!
Great wrap up. I don't catch every video in my subfeed so this reminds me I need to catch up on some of your reviews
Thanks R. I'm about two episodes behind on your videosso I def need to catch up. Your recent livestream with Matt was excellent!
This was a fun video. I loved Foundation, too, but also... The Murderbot Diaries are so much fun, too.
Thanks. I still have to catch the latest murderbot
@@FIT2BREAD I'm behind on them, too.
@@LiterateTexan how far? Ps. Have you read any Stanisaw Lem?

Been reading a lot of Fantasy this year so I haven't checked out much sci-fi content, just wanted to say I love your channel man thanks for it.

I have had Norstrilia on my TBR for years. I need to read this soon.
It's fun and fast

Great wrap up. You always make me want to read everything you talk about!
thanks Crystal! What are you reading now?
@@FIT2BREAD Right now I’m reading Son of the Endless Night by John Farris and really loving it.
Your beautiful Nnedi Okorafor I think currently have a new book published, lol
nice. i have to go look. I still havent read Noor yet

Thanks J. Interesting timing. Your post popped up as Jared Henderson was saying your name on his live stream with Mike (something about Tigana)
