I've been getting comments about how these shields would not work because termites can fly. Subterranean termites must nest in the ground. When they fly they are swarming to start a new colony and yes they can enter your house or structure. However, they must return to the ground to start a colony or they just die. Drywood termites are the type that can nest inside the wood they destroy. This type is NOT common. Unless you live in the southern part of a southern state in the U.S. you probably will not encounter drywood termites. The treatments to deal with subterranean vs drywood are completely different. Treatment and prevention for one species does not work for the other. When people talk about treatments for termites they are most often referring to the subterranean species because they are the bulk of the problems. Prevent those and you prevent most of your problems. Preventing drywood termites is a different conversation.

Great video! I wish I'd seen this before going to Home Depot. The guy looked at me as if I had a third eye when I asked him where the termite sheilds were located.

You have a great helper! Reminds me of all the times and projects I did that with my dad! Is the red building behind you a sneak peak at the completed shed?!

Ok so I'm still confused. I think.
Are badder boards mainly, mostly, nearly completely used to give you an area to adjust string lines?

You mean the actual horizontal boards themselves? The main purpose is to represent the top of the foundation. The string lines carry that plane across from corner to corner. Some contractors will use multiple sets of string lines to represent various aspects of the foundation. I just roughly measured over four inches from my string lines to get the outside of my footers. However, some like to run a string line representing the pier position and another line for the footer position.

This is why I'm building a steel frame house because of termites. That said we have very hard redwoods in Australia that although termites put holes into they were not able to eat and cause any real structural damage. I don't believe in chemical treatment of timber as a builder told me that it can't be relied on

Your builder is correct to a degree. Termites will eat pressure treated wood just like untreated lumber.
