I'm at a new place to me here in Panama City, Florida, trying the fish and chips from Captain D's Seafood Kitchen.

Speaking of fish Aldi beer battered fish is a must if you got an Aldi near you.

Yep, we get that as well as the parmesan encrusted tilapia. The red bag breaded chicken filets are really good too. Some people use them for a copycat ChickFilA sandwich. The filets a decent chicken sandwich, but I wouldn't call it a CFA copycat.
The best thing about Captain D's is the breading flakes that fall off of the fish. The usually give you a bunch of flakes under the fish.

Captain D's used to be around all over the SE U.S. when I was a kid it used to be so good. I don't see them no more. And LJS just isn't that good like it is used to be
I used to be a general manager of a captain d's in the 1990s. They were owned by Shoneys back then.

Should've gotten some malt vinegar to put on the fish. Like Long John Silver's offers.
I found later that they do have packets of malt vinegar available. I just didn't think to ask.
Not only did you need ketchup for your "chips", malt vinegar and lemon makes fried fish so much better!

I don’t eat much seafood, but Captain D’s fish is tasty. Great flavor, and usually very fresh and consistent when made, so almost always tastes great. I’m not a big fan of the fries, however their macaroni is really good with the fish, but it has to be fresh and not having sat around all day = not so good.

Been over 20 years since I've been to a Captain D's. My favorite menu item was the Deluxe Seafood Platter and a Lemonade.
I had captain d's in Jackson Tennessee and it was awesome
It's weird, I've seen commercials for this place yet, there are none within hundreds of miles of where I live.
Looks a lot better than Long John Silvers.
Too bad Arthur Treacher's isn't around anymore. They had cod which I like better than pollock.
I hate when I see commercials for places I'm not anywhere close to.

Tony knows the gospel regarding the Whataburger Spicy Ketchup. Which surprises me since you're not into hot things.
Granted it's a pleasurable spice I think. Not too hot. Just right!
Also I realized when I clicked on this I haven't been to Captain D's in like 15 years. 😅
I don't find their Spicy Ketchup hot, but providing more flavor then their normal stuff.

Sound delicious! You have to try BurgerFi they have some of the best burgers and custard!! Also give Fresh Kitchen a try these are two places we visited while on vaca in Florida. We're from Washington also and don't get them around here. Worth it! Love your videos.

Welcome back to food reviews Sir Tony! I was beginning to miss these until I saw you on Instagram in a dental commercial (I took a screenshot for reference sake). You've explained why I didn't break out with allergies from Captain D's fish vs. other restaurants that serve the allergen I so wish I didn't have. Pollock must be a mercury free fish. I'll look into it. I occasionally order the chicken with Mac and cheese and slaw or green beans depending with the hush puppies and mozzarella sticks.
Planning on doing a good many more reviews there. Their prices are crazy good!
There is no such thing as "mercury-free" fish. All seafood has some level of mercury. Pollock is relatively low, canned tuna has about 4 times the level of mercury than Pollock. But Pollock is still higher in mercury than salmon, sardines, anchovies, squid, oysters, scallops, and shrimp. If you are especially adverse to mercury, shrimp is by far your best bet. Pollock has about 30x the mercury than shrimp.
I do like their fish, but i have to say their chicken is better than most other chicken places. This is a much under rated. The hush puppies could be better. As a side I get corn on the cobb.

They use to have all you can eat country style fish on Sunday. I could eat about 5lbs.
Great hushpuppies, 10/10 would recommend!

Eating Cap D's in Florida is like eating Domino's in Italy. It is not nearly as good as it used to be. Some private equity group (whatever that is) bought it in the early 2000s and it's been sold several times since and the quality has been sliding every since.

I havent been to Captain Ds in awhile, but they got me hooked on putting malt vinegar on the fish and fries. Try that next time! They have it in packs and bottles

I was in WA. Haven't been in OR for many decades.
The last time I went to Captain D's what they served me wasn't even food it was so nasty and they refused to give me a refund. Until I get my $6 back I will be telling the world how nasty and horrible they are.

I give Captain D’s a meh. It’s all low quality. The shrimp is especially bad. There’s way better seafood in florida. Captain D’s is probably shipping it in from another country
