I'm revisiting this clip today to find some semblance of calm after a such turbulent day in history. I truly miss this show, the actors, the writers, the production team. May their message echo in everyone's heart and heal this chaos.
I recently purchased season one and two on Amazon. I was then and still very much in love with the show. I was absolutely devastated when they cancelled it. I knew it would happen because they were saw raw with the truth. Take care! ❤️
yes! and whoever chose not to continue with this series is an idiot. It promotes values and character and so many other good things! But I guess it only counts how much money a movie does and not at all what kind of values it tries to bring to the people. This is very sad.
This episode really hit me in my core. It was such a beautiful episode and it's a shame that the series ultimately got cancelled. The show always did the right thing.
Just as amazing as when I first met her on an episode of West Wing. As wonderful as these actors are-and as well as those were on WW, Anna has that unique and rare ability to suck the air right out of a scene no matter who’s in it. I knew I wanted to watch when I found out she was a part of this.
After I saw this episode, other than opening our eyes to immigrants issues. I was hoping they tied the little boy's story and Jay's by showing us how Jay and Tina became close. Maybe he once was little boy and Jay was the lawyer.
Tina is right. People can’t always be using our history when we’re working to move forward. That’s in the past and it will never be forgotten but you can’t always play the immigrant card. It just is what it is and if you don’t like it, oh well. The world keeps moving forward.
That's no the issue here, Like Tina said what makes this so painful is that we expect more because we've seen more, we've done more and we've certainly done better than this. Tina isn't telling Jay to lay down and submit to it she's saying we need to acknowledge the reality and work to improve it where we can. If everyone just said "Oh well" and kept walking I'd be a slave right now.
I found this scene to be incredibly rich while waiting for election results... struggling to contend with so much dichotomy... a beacon and a curse... this is the America I know and this pain is progress
This speech hit me hard...
This is one of the most powerful speeches powerfully delivered by the divine Anna Deavere Smith

Amen to Tina's statement. What she described is the REAL America... that I know.
Omg, this just said it all, beautiful, honest, sad that we really haven't evolved
Can someone get her an Emmy already?
