This is the THIRD major final England has been in their WHOLE football history. THIRD. Meanwhile Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Germany have been in God knows how many finals. France and Spain too... on lesser extent.... and of course Uruguay. All those countries are MASSIVELY more successful in international football. It's almost like people are taking England's getting to the Euro final for granted. All of a sudden it was excepted and McManaman said "England has been here in the past". Yes... @@Sophienfreya Not just recent history. Uruguay's World Cup titles are very old but they have 15 Copa America championships. The last one is from 2011. You can always argue that there are less good teams in America but then again European Championship was only 8 teams for a long time. And in the Euros we only have like 2-3 really good teams more.

Italy was atrocious, no 2 ways about it. They really shouldn't have even been in the knockout stages, but fortune favoured them. So no props to Spain for that tie. But back to back wins over Germany, then France (albeit a poor one) deserves respect. In the end though, winning the final is all it's about, so both teams always go in with equal chance.

I do not like this Nico & Yamal hype. The backbone of Spain are Rodri, Olmo, Caravajal and Cucurella. Nico and Yamal have been playing for the tribune so far, showing that they can dribble...and forgetting to score goals. They both scored once each....quite poor. Olmo, a midfielder and not even a first team player, has scored 3 times so far.

The football they’ve played at the EUROs has been so boring yet they’re in the final and English fans should be happy that they have a chance to write themselves in the history books as every time they’re in this position, they somehow always find a way to be choke artists. People aren’t impressed by their manager and he’s not rated highly by the fans or the media and that’s because they have a lot of good players as any manager would be doing what he’s doing, in major tournaments, they’ve had some luck on their side as they’ve been on the weaker side of the bracket where they don’t play a good team until either the final or the semifinal, he’s seen as someone who’s conservative, he’s taken them to back to back finals of the EUROs. Against the Netherlands Slovakia and Switzerland they showed incredible resilience and while they should be beating those teams since you have the best players in the world, every time they were behind and looked like they were going to get eliminated they reacted and found ways to come back and yes he can make subs earlier, but his bench is the one making the difference for the team and when you have the more stacked squad in international football you have the luxury to bring on any player from the bench who would start on any country in the world. The disrespect we give this guy will be silent because yes you can play boring football sometimes have questionable tactics and not know what you’re doing, but at the end of the day, football is all about winning trophies that’s what your remembered for in history and the narrative around Southgate and the way we perceive this guy will be different as he can go from being seen as a fraud to a top coach in a span of a couple of days, if they don’t win it he’ll be crucified.
I do think that trophies shouldn’t be the only metric when looking at how good a manager especially since individual brilliance has kept them in this tournament rather than his tactics and coaching, but still at the end of the day a trophy is a trophy and that’s all the English fans care about no matter what you think of him. When it comes to these major tournaments, winning is your job and that’s the only thing that counts and that’s what they’ve done even if their performances apart from their last 2 games have been subpar. Even though Spain are favorites going into this game as they’re the much better team and England still has the pressure to deliver a trophy once and for all, treating them as underdogs and not giving them a chances means that you’re doing this team a favor writing them off saying that they’ll get destroyed as luck will be in their side and they’ll be doing everything in their power to make sure that they can get a result and not get destroyed. If they win this game, I would be in shock and like a wise man once said “They didn’t believe in us, god did”.
