    It works!!! Dare I say it, it was easy. I’ve been to rehab twice and 100’s of AA meetings over the course of 15 years. Completely hopeless. I went to Dr. Sophie. She very casually asked if use tried naltrexone. Never heard of it. She said she thinks it’ll help. “Take a pill now, then go and have a drink.” No argument there. So I did. I ordered a double vodka soda and took one sip. I started playing on my phone. The next thing I knew, it was 45 minutes later. I had taken 2 sips and forgotten I even had the drink. I didn’t finish it and had no desire to I almost cried. I have never been so thankful to someone in my entire life. I take one pill every morning and have no desire to drink. Just out of curiosity (stupid, I know), I had a drink one time. Halfway through, the normal warmth and pleasure I get was not there. It may as well have been a Diet Coke. I left it on the bar and went home. This drug is absolutely amazing and it’s infuriating that more people don’t know about it. I cannot recommend it enough if you’re ready to quit.

    I've been drinking everyday for the past few years. Only stopping for 2 or 3 days here and there. I talked to my doc and was really surprised at how easy it was to just say hey, I wanna drink less. It's day one for me right now. Picked up my prescription earlier today. I'm really hoping this works. I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

    So true. I can only have one beer and literally can't choke another one down. I drank heavily since I was in my teens. I'm 42 now and have been to treatment 4 times. The longest I've ever been sober is 5 months. Naltrexone is a wonderful tool to have. It has saved my life.

      Yes! Choking it down is a good way to put it. I am still in disbelief this is the case haha. Naltrexone and TSM has saved my life too... the longer i'm on it the greater my perspective is on how far I've come. So grateful words can't describe!

      here's a few ideas for giving up alcohol at home
      Try to eat food while you are drinking - this cuts down the amount you drink.
      Take a break from drinking.
      Make a note of how much you drink, then you know if you are cutting down.
      Set goals - don't make them too difficult at first.
      Pick 1 or 2 days or each week when you will not drink . Then, try to stop drinking for one week per month.
      (I read these and why they work from Adoette drink plan website )

    I just started TSM, I am a heavy drinker. I took my first dose of naltrexone, waited the hour. I drank 3 shots of rum and waited for the the buzz to kick in...15 minutes later I had absolutely no desire to continue...the bottle had no appeal. The next day I decided to take the pill first thing in the morning, 12 hours later I had a couple shots just to see how long the effect would be. same result. no buzz, and I really didn't want a drink, I did it mainly for science.

    I started this treatment and soon found myself in deep depression. I will say I was very happy with the results for the first 1-2 weeks. When depression slowly started creeping in week 2-3 I assumed it was the standard depression, most likely related to drinking. I was drinking much less, only 2-3 drinks per night. Slowly the depression developed into suicidal thoughts. I have read this is a very rare reaction, but have determined that it is the case for me. I stopped taking Naltrexone 3 days ago and have felt progressively better each day. I appreciate you doing these videos, you are part of the reason I found this treatment. I know it works like a miracle for many, and I hope that it works for the rest of you too. Good luck everyone, and remember, even if it doesn't work for you, there is ALWAYS another option.. Stay strong... Stay connected to others.. You will find strength in others. And you will give strength to others even if you don't know it when it happens.

    I drank very heavily for several years, like 20 years, actually. I drank and drove constantly, I often drank beer WHILE I drove. I was just smashed all the time. Everyone, myself included, thought I was going to die early. Then something happened which I never would've imagined, I kid you not: I lost my taste for alcohol. This was so foreign to me, I actually TRIED for a good two years to reacquire the "taste." It was like I didn't know what to do if I wasn't going to be a total alcoholic fuck up. But it's left me. It just left me. That was five years ago. I don't drink anymore. If I DO crack a beer on a rare occasion, I barely get one down and I'm just off it. I used to drink 24 to 30 beers in a night. I dunno how or why, but that's what happened with me.

    Thanks for charging. I have been on it for two years. When I first started after hitting the peak of my alcohol abuse. After one drink I felt repulsed. With therapy and this I have been 2 yrs sober. Many people don’t know about this because they don’t talk to the doctor truthfully about their drinking. Unfortunately, we don’t realize we need help until everything comes down in many cases.

    So If you are a problem drinker and want to go out on the pub and have two beers instead of five or six it works.

I hope you continue to post these updates because it feels great to have somewhat of almost mentor. I look forward to seeing your process . And i can't wait to start mine ! @thrivealcoholrecovery 6 років тому +1

      Hi there! So great to connect with you on here. I appreciate the feedback on the videos... that's why I started making them because I was looking for resources when I first learned about it (other than Claudia's tedtalk) and it was so limited and made me wonder if this was too good to be true and/or a celebrity pushing a product. haha. I anticipate I will still make them as long as I'm called to do so - which I imagine will be for a while because my life is literally changed in the best ways possible from it. Re: your question on starting the medication... for me it was helpful to start with 1/2 a pill the first couple of times while I adjusted to the side effects (they went away for the most part by the 3rd time). And just give yourself the full hour before drinking... and be patient and kind to yourself during the process! It will be filled with ups and downs but for me it's been a trajectory of upward growth. I remember a couple months in the first time I was dealing with a lot of anger since starting and I had 0 desire to turn to alcohol. I was experiencing it all 100% sober and I felt so alive. And it's not a consistent drop in craving, frequency and qty in drinks but it's overall going to go down over time. Some weeks I would drink 3 times, some weeks I would drink once. Now after 8 months as I said I consistently drink 3-4 times a month the past couple months. I hope you keep me updated and let me know if I can be a resource as you begin the journey! So excited for you.

Bought a btl of wine which is my normal habit after work waited 1 1/4 hrs and took a sip ……….such a weird feeling ,I was waiting for that normal kick of pleasure and nothing happened !! took the glass to my living room ,took another larger sip ,tasted like wine but nothing .I have trouble describing the lack lustre feeling I had when I sipped the wine :) I had no desire what so ever to finish the glass as would be my normal practise,it took me an hour to finish the glass and I threw about 3 sips away .Same thing last night ,Friday just the one glass .I have 3 days off and don't trust myself to not drink over this period ,so will continue now with TSM using Naltrexone .Two side effects I noticed ,1.My tummy is slightly queasy for a while .2.I have lost my appetite ,a good thing as I'm over weight anyway .Thankyou again Katie .I now need to watch all your earlier posts again and track my progress from the start including weight,bp,how I'm feeling and oh Yes order some more Naltrexone .Keep up the Great work ,you through your videos have started me on a healthier lifestyle path ,Bless you .

    Hey Katie, thanks for your videos!!!!
    Love them!!!!
    I just got a prescription of Naltrexone from my doc last week. 50 mg. He said take one a day. So, I take it in the morning.
    So you and Claudia, take one pill an hour before you drink. How many milligrams are you taking, and also, do you take one in the morning as well.
    Or, do you only take Nalprexone when you think you're going to drink. Because if one takes one in the morning. I know the half life is 4 to 13 hours. So, if one went out to dinner that evening and decided to a beer or glass of wine. Is another pill necessary.
    I was wondering how you did it.
    Thanks!!!!
    Take care!!!

      I support any method that works for a person! I think we're all so unique that we can't say one method for all. 12 steps/aa did not work for me because i hated having to call myself an alcoholic and be powerless... and I never had a group I resonate with. That's me personally. Some people have great AA groups and I know of some people who even practice TSM and go to AA still...

    I'm trying this for the first time. Been a true alcoholic for a very long time. I am sad to say, this seems to be working as intended. I was secretly hoping it wouldn't work. I thought it my head "How could any pill REALLY stop what booze does for me?" but so far it seems to be doing just that. I feel the other effects of drinking, the ones that I usually don't notice because the good feelings cover that up, but not the good feelings. I just feel the other affects. It's ruining the drinking for me. All I really want now is for the affects of the drinks to go away so I can continue my night soberly and the thought of another drink is SO not desirable, which is 100 percent contradictory to the way it's always been. I am disappointing while at the same time FILLED with hope. A strange feeling indeed. I never thought I could drink and then just stop. It's always been all or nothing.

I don’t feel a need to have anything at all. And question why I even finished the first 😂 very curious to see where this goes in the coming months. Thanx for sharing your experience you helped me find this life changing drug. I’m just in awe.

    I'm only on day 3 doing TSM and already having a hard time finishing my second 6.6% abv beer. Not even interested in something harder thinking it will get me drunk faster. Last week this day, I had 8 drinks, which was pretty much my average for the last two years. I'm still at 25mg, not even the recommended 50mg dose.

      Hey there Rick! Yes, for me, simply breaking the habit wasn't enough as I was biologically addicted to alcohol. Even if I went 6 months without drinking, the obsessive thoughts and desires were still there until I would finally give in. With TSM, it has removed the biological addiction from my brain where now I hardly ever think of alcohol and have very little desire to drink. Do you feel that you are addicted to alcohol?

    I just took Naltrexone for this first time, I took 25mg as it was my first time and read that it's better to start low. Then further reading and probably my personality meant after I waited for the 1 hour I took the second 25mg.
    I cracked my first beer 1-hour post the first 25mg and am now on my second beer. To be honest I feel exactly the same or maybe a bit more drunk than usual. I will be opening the third! I'm just approaching hour 2 so the whole 50mg is in my system. I'm pretty overweight, around 110kg, so maybe I needed a higher dose.
    I'm just going to keep taking it before I drink and see what happens, I was expecting a profound change in the feeling of being drunk but haven't experienced that at all, I know it wouldn't help with the craving but still feel them warm affect I love and crave.

    Seems like a method that will work for people who abuse alcohol. A true alcoholic isn’t going to take a pill that STOPS THE FEELING YOU WANT FROM DRINKING. That’s asinine. I know countless others like me who are in the same boat. Vivitrol shows much better results over time. Not to mention, you can still have pleasurable experiences while on the shot. It’s not like your opioid receptors are the only part of your brain that induces pleasure.

    This Method really helped me loose the desire to drink. Last year I was still in the process and now I decline any chance to drink. Which is unheard of, mostly I have no desire to take the pill (since I am experiencing alot of depression and general disinterest in most things that I used to care about , questioning if taking Naltrexone has had a negative effect on my already depressed state. I fear what would happen if I were to drink without the pill, so I abstain.

      Angel Lighten that's what I did try . I guess you misunderstood. I'm at the point where I don't indulge at all unless I take the pill since drinking without the pill now would be bad from what I understand.. but since taking the pill makes me just less happy all around about any activities I partake in . I avoid drinking and taking the pill at all costs. Even though I would like to enjoy an occasional drink on the pill , ( and it did work for me as far as not drinking more than a couple) it's not worth causing more depression. It's hard to explain.

  • @mrhat7531
    @mrhat7531 4 роки тому

    After 2-6 drinks I've felt 'done' on nal. But that occurs less frequently than normal. Usually there is enough desire to keep drinking unless I have some obligation. Most of the time I don't notice a difference tbh. Maybe my indian bought stuff is weaker or something. The effect of nal has more so been craving/desire drops on the subconscious before I start.
    I don't resonate with the people who can't finish a drink or whatever on nal.
    It works, but there are a ton of 2 steps forward 1 step back. I've felt on the brink of extinction many times, but have fallen back to it. My chart certainly speaks for itself as I have pretty noticeable decreases over time, but TSM isn't like a drug where there is this huge night and day difference. It isn't a magic pill, at least not in the way you think it is. It takes commitment and time.

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery 4 роки тому +1

      you're so right about that - it takes commitment and time. I have heard overseas prescriptions could risk not being 100% authentic. Have you tried CThreeFoundation.org for a physician? Also, I know some people respond better to it genetically than others. And of course there are a lot of external factors that can influence drinking - just like you said if you don't have an obligation you can drink more. It does take some effort and baby steps to rebuild one's life beyond alcohol...naltrexone helps with the compulsive cravings and binges....but we still have to break the habit and create a life worth living beyond alcohol...which takes time and self introspection and personal development. I wish you the best on this method and hope your faith stays strong and that you see the benefits of it. thank you for your comment.

      Hey there! Some doctors suggest to take this medication without drinking. I follow "The Sinclair Method" which uses targeted pharmacological extinction of alcohol addiction. So, you still drink on the medication in order to un-do the addiction to alcohol. I take Naltrexone in pill form, taking it 1 hour before I drink and only on drinking days... and I drink about once a month now days, if that. Let me know if I can be a resource to you at all. Wishing you all the best!

      The Sinclair Method cannot be used / followed when using Vivitrol. The Naltrexone must be taken in pill form so that only the alcoholism / act of drinking can be targeted for pharmacological extinction.

    Hi Katie - I am still trying 25mg before drinking. I normally go to the pub after going to the gym. So I have tried taking it before working out. I have noticed that I sweat a lot more but I actually feel more focused and seem to find being on a treadmill for 50 mins is easy? Although I am sweating more; I do not crave a beer after training. However, my habit is still to go to the bar. But I think in general I am drinking less. I normally snack when I drink so I guess my calorie intake is also going down. I have read that weight loss can be a side effect? Certainly I feel lighter, fitter and coping with stress better?

      hi :) thanks for your comment and questions! 1) my husband offered me alcohol because he knew I was on The Sinclair Method and this method works to undo the dependence by drinking in combination with a targeted dose of naltrexone. 2) it's now been about 1.5 years since I started TSM, and about 4 months since I've drank. I took 30mg with 450mg of Zyban. This is the generic version of Contrave for weight loss. I'm now doing 5mg Naltrexone a.k.a LDN and 450mg Zyban and it's all but killed my desire to drink. I've had OCD and depression for decades and used alcohol to self medicate. Trust me this works and you don't need the usual 50mg long term. Get a medical ID if you use this as opioid pain meds won't work. You would need dangerous amounts to overcome the opioid receptor blockade.

    Therefore, is Naltrexone a cure?
    It just sounds like a waste of time.
    I've been sober for the best part of 10 years and just drink alcohol free beer.
    I don't know if I'd be keen to take a pill just to have 2 beers and still not get pissed. The whole concept of alcohol is to feel different.... I would just like to ask.. Do you still feel tipsy or slightly impaired after having a couple when you are on Naltrexone?.... And if not then what is the point?

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery 4 роки тому

      The point of the treatment is to reset the brain so it's not wired to crave alcohol or drink impulsively anymore. People can then still drink in moderation and over time, no longer have the urge to get 'pissed drunk' - it's like you become a "normal" drinker. For me, it allowed me to easily quit alcohol almost 2 years ago because I just lose the desire for it. I hope that helps!

    I just......my grandfather said something to me when I was 16 yrs old. He said “something that sounds to good to be true probably is”. As a recovering alcoholic, I tend to have a HUGE doubt about a pill that could end my nightmare of cravings. I’ve been sober for 4 yrs with one slip.....I don’t classify it as a relapse because I actually felt sick when I drank 2 beers 2 yrs in to my recovery & pretty much felt like shit because of it.
    Oh and I don’t really have any conscious “triggers”.....in other words I never drank because I was sad, or depressed or angry or anything else. I drank because I LOVED the way I felt when I drank......until 23 yrs later of drinking EVERY DAY. Then, I was so sick and tired it wasn’t fun anymore.

      Hi there Ed... firstly, way to go on your sobriety - that is a huge accomplishment! Secondly, I understand where you're coming from. I was in disbelief too... but it does indeed work for about 80% of people who take Naltrexone following the Sinclair Method (1 pill, 1 hour before you drink). There's a great book by Dr Roy Eskapa that goes into the science of it, called "The Cure for Alcoholism: The medically proven way to eliminate alcohol addiction." I can email you a copy if you want. The wiring of the addiction in the brain is undone over time and you are returned to the state of mind you were in pre-addiciton. Happy to suggest more resources of course if you wish. All the best to you!

      Hi Katie, have you ever taken the pill and not drank alcohol because you didn’t feel like it after taking the pill? I have been on TSM for about 2 weeks and am having great success.

      hooray! congrats to you. For me, sometimes I would take the pill and not want to drink...but I always drank after taking the pill--even just a few sips to count it as an extinction session. In a way I felt it helped me move toward extinction faster. Not everyone agrees on this point so it's really up to you.. but that was my practice :) if you take the pill and for whatever reason you don't have access to alcohol or something, it's not a huge deal.

    2day was my 1st time trying naltrxone. I took the pill at 7pm bcuz i thought i was going to drink around 8 or 8:30 but i didnt end up drinking until 11pm.
    I experienced dry mouth & a slight headache in the hours b4 i drank. I got home & i just had a glass of whiskey on the rocks with a splash of club soda & my headache intensified, i feel nauseous & i also feel like throwing up. I feel a little buzzed & i have not even finished my 1st full drink. I want to have a 2nd drink but the side effects are making me think twice & making me feel a little iffy about having another one. I wanted to try naltrexone at my house b4 going out to a bar bcuz i didnt know how i would react to the medication.
    Are the side effects i am having normal?
    I am not a daily drinker but i consider myself a weekend alcoholic. Bcuz every weekend i have to have my whiskey. I would appreciate any feed back...thanks

      @@erikauntitled Hi Erika....well i spoke to a couple of people i met online & they said i was feeling so horrible after i took the 1st pill bcuz maybe it was to strong for me at the moment. I was told to cut the pill in half & drink it. Until my body got used to the medication so i did. The headaches, dizziness, & wanting to barf went away. So far when im on the medication i have noticed my drinking has reduced. If i were u i would start with half of the pill so your body can get used it too bcuz my side effects when i took the whole thing at 1st were no joke. After my body got usted to the medication i can now take the whole pill.

      jrherrera631 thanks! That’s what my doc recommended to split the pill in half at first . How long did it take for you to start taking the whole pill? I’m just confused my doc told me to take it every day even if I don’t drink every day .

      @@erikauntitled He probably told you to take1 everyday so your body can start getting used to the medication & then he'll probably cut you down to only when u drink alcohol. But i cant speculate so i would just go over it with him. But i took half of the pill every day for a couple days until my body got used 2it. Now i just take the whole pill an hour b4 i drink. But like i said b4 i would go over it again with your doctor since every person is different.

    I think you didn't want more after the 1 beer because you enjoyed it as you would anything else, like a refreshing, good tasting non-alcoholic drink or good food. Perhaps you didn't drink the beer for a buzz, but because it's just good tasting and refreshing. I've never been a big drinker but a nice beer once in a blue moon or small glass of red wine with good food goes down really nice. But i wouldn't desire to have more than half or 1 tops. And it seems that's how you were after taking the pill.

      Why would your husband offer you a drink when he knows you're an alcoholic (regardless of you being on or off the Sinclair Method).

    • @thrivealcoholrecovery
      @thrivealcoholrecovery 5 років тому +12

      @@saltlauren9888 Salt Lauren , people ask this question when they are not familiar with how the sinclair method works. drinking with the medication is part of healing on the sinclair method. every time you drink on the medication, you are working to extinct the addiction. My husband knew this and we had an agreement as I went through this process. This day in particular I had already taken the medication and had a little to drink, so he offered me a glass of wine. That is why. TSM is different than any other method it's not traditional. Drinking with the medication leads to unlearning the addiction over time...hence me being 8 months sober now. Hope that helps you understand more.
