I got an Index full kit off eBay a few weeks ago. Only place you can get it "in stock" so the price, *if you do not want to wait 8+ weeks through Steam*, is actually comparable right now between the bundle versions. My Index kit cost me $1500 incl shipping for a new one still in its original shipping box from Valve. And looking just now, the cheapest today is even a few hundred higher than that (unless you want pre-owned or to wait out an auction).
Eventually this wont be a factor...but if you want the full kit and want it sooner rather than later (when I looked up the Pimax kit today it said in stock), this is actually going to be quite a bit cheaper for the time being. And Steam isn't even letting you order the Base Stations themselves at all, so the bundle is worth it. They are going for about $250 each give or take on the re-sale market which makes the $500 Pimax bundle difference for two + the controllers a massive discount. Can probably sell them off piecemeal if you don't need them and end up with just the headset for well under the $899 in the end.

Reverb it's better and closer to 8KX. Comparing my 8K+ to 8KX and reverb the upscaling is impressive but only at 150% supersampling and that hurts performance and still didn't get it quite as close in sharpness. But on the positive there is less SDE effect than in the 8K+ and Reverb to my eyes.

Upon tacking the package i found that it was already here and was attempted to be delivered once already but i missed it due to having no tracking confirmation. Once i got the HMD i installed the pitool and connected the hedset loaded for a second then noticed my PC said device can not be recognized and the HMD wasnt connecting Pitools was showing my base stations and touch controllers but the headset would not show up. The LED was RED on the HMD with no activity on the screens. Upon a full reinstall of all drivers and pitools the HMD connects for a moment then the right screen goes out followed by the left and the HMD disconnects. I have notified pimax of this defected HMD the day i got it in hand and i still havent heard anything from them. If i do not soon i will be filing a dispute with my bank and attempting to get my money back. I agree with what choice you said between the Pimax and Index. The only thing that sells a Pimax is wide FOV. The rest of Pimax is fiddly nuisance annoying things that takes the fun out of it. Saying what I've read from other owners. You just want to put the headset on, load game and go! Imagine owning the holy grail of VR: Star VR One. Mere everyday consumer mortals will be lucky to get one and it might not even run steam games.

    • @CorporateZombi
      @CorporateZombi 4 роки тому

Yeah except that you *can* just set up pimax and go. You literally never have to touch the pitool software or *even run it* to use pimax after initial setup. I play steam games and viveport games, oculus games using revive at normal fov with parallel projections turned on and scaling set to 1. Set steam vr supersampling to a fixed value of say 1 *and don't let it dynamically change it* And that is it. Never touch pitool or run it. Just load steam and away you go.
The only setting you may ever need to touch in pitool is the parallel projections one. The flowchart for that looks like this. Ready?
Are the graphics screwy/ flashy broken? They are? Then open pitool and toggle the parallel projections option. Done.
Oh it's fiddly I hear. I'm like, why is it? Maybe it is if you are constantly setting up different headsets or like turning supersampling up and down because you like fiddling. But not in an everyday use case. You can just plug and play.
My system. Pimax xr (the oled one) 1080ti. Overclocked i7 4th gen CPU.
For half life alyx. I had to update pitool and put parallel projections on because my hands were inside out. But I played that whole game in widest field of view and it was epic. And that is literally the first time I've run pitool in about 6 months.

@@PorcuDuckSlug True but these new technologies are still a bit clunky. I had masses of problems with oculus CV1 at the start. Swapping usb ports and buying a usb 3 card and additional cameras to sort out tracking issues (4 cameras). Adding a vr cover to sort out the face interface comfort (so much worse than dk2). And sometimes it had distracting god rays (again worse than dk2). Waiting for the touch controllers to be released. Oh and the audio failed due to a bit of a design flaw with wires running thru the headband at the back, so that had to get rma'd. Oh and my hair was always tangling in those over ear headphones.
Then with original vive I had a few issues trying to update the wand controller firmware, which took several goes to get it to take. The tracking was fairly bulletproof - once you have drilled into your ceiling! But the Fresnel lenses seem shocking poor compared to the rift. And no on board audio, but hey. - headphones.
Then the index had apparent problems with game compatibility and thumbsticks failing on the index controllers when that launched. Can't overly comment because I don't own that one...
And psvr has some issues with controller drift where you have to shake the controller to re orient it. And the lenses scratch really really easily. And you have front facing only so no room scale. And you forget and turn around quite a bit!
I guess what I'm saying is. I don't think you should necessarily rule out pimax based on this apparent fiddlyness of since none of the headsets have a perfect track record in my experience. Saying all pimax has is wide fov is downplaying just how much this is actually an absolutely killer feature in my opinion.
You can more than compensate for the lack of on board audio with decent Bluetooth in ear headphones. I find it really comfy out of the box - but not everyone will. Oh and you might find the give wands smacking into the headset when you draw a bow.
Sure, there is a bit of distortion at your absolute peripheral vision at max fov. But what a difference the large fov makes!
Anyway it may not suit everyone but pimax will remain my headset of choice until you can actually buy starVR One!

Will it gives me better stream quality videos than the valve index? Thank you

@@whiterice7466 i only have a 5k+, but in general for any kind of video, screen resolution is king. the upscaler might make the picture a little soft, but other than the 8kX, nothing beats the 8k+. with the pimax software giving you full control over brightness, contrast, etc. you can dial that puppy in to perfection.
sadly most vrporn is still shot with 5k resolution, i only found VRBangers with 6k, hopefully they all get some better equipement soon. ;)

@@tomduke1297 I am using the valve index right now. Its better than other VR set lile oculus rifts ect.....but the quality of the videos still not as sharp and clear as i want it. I just want to make sure how much better with the sharpness and better quality videos if i am using the Pima 8k x vs valve index. Thank you.

I got rid of my 5k plus because performance and software are just too much of a hassle to just allow you to enjoy VR. Using for now a samsung odyssey plus until my valve index ships.

I'll never buy pimax again. I have many problems with games on steam...fov is not enough reason for me..and the pitool - throwing up

do you mean the fov (amount of it) isnt enough for your taste? Or its isn't sufficient reason to buy it because of other drawbacks?

I think there's some camera focusing issues. I'd image the photos don't look like they do in action and he's probably speaking from experience as well.
Either way, I'd personally go Pimax because I want a higher FOV rather than resolution.

Res and FOV are meaningless with LCD...backlights, blacks and colours are what's up...AMOLED rekts them :(

I used to think that... but Vive is so bad and comparing Alyx on both LCD vs OLED there are actually details lost in the black. I think HZ and OLED address now the most overrated features.

@@laartwork is right. details are sorta muddled/lost. however nothing beats the feeling of being in a pitch black tunnel with only a flashlight and low ammo in Alyx.
Waiting for microled to fix the black smear issues 🤞

Nah, OLEDs looks nice in VR for a moment before you start to realise that you lose all the detail in the dark scenes. And you get the most horrible SDE.

Pimax looks really bad. I had the money to get it but I got the G2 instead. It just feels so badly built and it looks really ugly. My second VR set is Quest 2 and I think the combination of Quest 2 for wireless and G2 for sims is the best option at the moment.

@@Crecross I bought it and it broke down in few days. The one with the battery is terrible (Pimax Crystal V1). I prefer the new Light version as you no longer need a battery. On my old Pimax Crystal the top strap came loose and it contained the wire for the battery so I couldn't use it at all after that . This was just after 3-4 days use. The build quality is absolutely terrible on the Pimax especially V1.
Now I have the Quest 3 and Vision Pro. Both of these devices are built far better than the Pimax. You might not think looks and build quality is important but when you are paying so much for a headset it has to tick those boxes.
