Singing is not only about the high notes, its the complete form and harmony especially if you are doing a duet. Both are good but Charice, gave justice end emotion to the duet.
I kinda agree that Filipinos are one of the most talented singers in Asia (not whole world). But the lack of training and appreciation from Filipino producers just make things worse for Philippine music. Blacks can go toe to toe against Filipinos. Nowadays, other SEA countries and EA countries make better music than PH. We're clearly being left behind not because we lost the talent but because we prioritize those who can't really sing, even veteran singers say that.

It was not a stage where both showed their best performance. They also showed consideration for each other. Sohyang's sweet angelic voice stood out, and Pempinko's powerful and solid voice was an impressive performance. By the way, this video was filmed around 2011, and it must be taken into account that Sohyang did not sing popular music such as pop songs or Kpop songs, and that it was a time when she only sang with CCM. Sohyang said in I Am a Singer Season 2 in 2012 that she didn't even know how to sing regular songs until then, and that after appearing on the I Am a Singer program, she learned how to sing regular songs by watching her senior and junior colleagues sing.
Charice is a beast... she won this battle, but I guess this was So Hyang's inflection point, she figured out she needed to work on her vocals and focus on her strength, which is probably her range. So Hyang is a much better singer today, and I miss Charice....
I’m from the Philippines and I love Sohyang. Please refrain from commenting negative about Sohyang, her voice is one in a million. She doesn’t only have a great voice but very sophisticated. I won’t get tired listening to her voice. I miss Charice’s voice and her heart and soul performance - very passionate. I love this duet.

Luigi L Sohyang may not be suitable for duet actually. If she has to harmonize, she will have to compress her voice while keeping her throat open in order to get great resonance. She wants resonance, which makes her voice much bigger and more powerful, but the sound would come out loud which sounds like she is competing.

I saw some comments making it seem as if So Hyang and Charice were competing with each other. I'm not sure why you would think that way. They weren't free-singing. They had to rehearse before the show. I don't see any competition here. For those favoring Charice, please remember that she was supposed to be the focus in the show; not Sohyang who was an invited guest singer to accompany Charice only.
In this performance, Charice sounds better even though we know how phenomenal Sohyang is as a vocalist. I think the reason why Charcie sounded better is because her voice is more similar to Whitney Houston, and so it sounded thicker and rounder and more like the original version that everyone is used to listening. Charice's voice shines best in her mid belt registers, similar to Whitney, while Sohayng is known for her upper chest register. Some people might think Sohyang's voice is more similar to Mariah's, which to some degree is, but Mariah's voice is very rare to even be duplicated.

Obviously charice is much better than sooyang. But sooyang is good,. Sooyang's diction are not clear. And her intonations are sometimes sounds pitche, little bit flat or sharp. While charice sounds perfect pitch. Charice lower range are wider and thick. But sooyangs higher range are spectacular but thin sounds while charice sounds pleasant and thicker. And the most important is charice sings with emotions like shes telling a story.that she is ON the music.. Thats why you cant compare charice because she is on the other upper class level
Charice had been consistent of being Whitney here... She played the part of Whitney's big voice, while So Hyang, uhmm... She's good too yet, she does aim to over play her part and made it vivid that she tried to sweep off charice,.. Sad to see that :(

I just can’t stop laughing with these comments saying Sohyang is better in this song because she was able to reach higher notes. First of all, Charice is a mezzo while Sohyang is a soprano which clearly explains why Sohyang can reach higher notes than Charice. Second, singing isn’t all about high notes, being a singer, it is literally harder to hit lower notes than high notes especially when you have a high range.
I will give you my opinion: Prime Charice vs old So Hyang isn't comparable. 2. This is a ramdon performance and suits better on Charice because she has those fierce low notes (that a Mezzo CAN hit better than a Soprano overall). This isn't a good song for SH. 3. Both have powerful voices and there is only one part where Charice has her strenght and is more powerful than SH (mid part of the song). Then, the high ones are even equaly heard. Actually, 4. I can see that So Hyang isn't trying to compite, she is trying to fit the song. 5. We all know So Hyang needs to Arrange a song in order to fit because she has a particular high tone, while Charice is a voice more like Whitney and she doesn't struggle this type of songs. I personal prefer So Hyang actual voice and vocal skills, butI love Charice. And both are good in their own areas. However, many philipinos hate So Hyang so much and they are disrespecful and here you can see that both could have done better performance than this, BUT, i really love this. Well, that's all. She’s so good yet she wasn’t overpowering the Korean girl. Not only can she sing flawlessly well but she also conveys the message through her impeccable interpretation. She both had a powerful and a silky voice. I esp. love the “just believe” at the end. Good job, Charice. Too talented. ❤🎉
So Hyang a Korean singer who used to compare to our very own Asia's SongBird RV.. here in UA-cam..... so hyang is great.... but in this duet when she riches the high notes using her headvoice it's perforated my eardrums :) charice here as always... Superb!!!!

I completely disagree to those people here in the comment section who choose which one is much better. Sohyang is good at her headvoice and mixing her voice (mixed) has a nice technique, and voice quality (maybe pronunciation of her made it sound a little bit off but it is considerable because she's not that fluent to english or because of her accent). Charice has a powerful voice no doubt but i love this performance w/ sohyang and specially "a whole new world " w/ kyuhyun and "i will always love you" w/ Park Jung Hyun. They were done impromptu and were able to produce great harmonies. I'm sure the Korean idols didn't try to compete with her but just enjoyed singing with her. I'm just thankful to the Koreans who received her with warmth and were genuinely awed by her performances, not to take anything away from the Korean idols , they have great voices as well, for these songs to come out as they did , unrehearsed, were able to produce great music together. I saw some comments making it seem as if So Hyang and Charice were competing with each other. I'm not sure why you would think that way. They weren't free-singing. They had to rehearse before the show. I don't see any competition here.
For those favoring Charice, please remember that she was supposed to be the focus in the show; not Sohyang who was an invited guest singer to accompany Charice only.
In this performance, Charice sounds better even though we know how phenomenal Sohyang is as a vocalist. I think the reason why Charcie sounded better is because her voice is more similar to Whitney Houston, and so it sounded thicker and rounder and more like the original version that everyone is used to listening. Charice's voice shines best in her mid belt registers, similar to Whitney, while Sohayng is known for her upper chest register. Some people might think Sohyang's voice is more similar to Mariah's, which to some degree is, but Mariah's voice is very rare to even be duplicated.

Obviously charice is much better than sooyang. But sooyang is good,. Sooyang's diction are not clear. And her intonations are sometimes sounds pitche, little bit flat or sharp. While charice sounds perfect pitch. Charice lower range are wider and thick. But sooyangs higher range are spectacular but thin sounds while charice sounds pleasant and thicker. And the most important is charice sings with emotions like shes telling a story.that she is ON the music.. Thats why you cant compare charice because she is on the other upper class level
Charice had been consistent of being Whitney here... She played the part of Whitney's big voice, while So Hyang, uhmm... She's good too yet, she does aim to over play her part and made it vivid that she tried to sweep off charice,.. Sad to see that :(

I just can’t stop laughing with these comments saying Sohyang is better in this song because she was able to reach higher notes. First of all, Charice is a mezzo while Sohyang is a soprano which clearly explains why Sohyang can reach higher notes than Charice. Second, singing isn’t all about high notes, being a singer, it is literally harder to hit lower notes than high notes especially when you have a high range.
I will give you my opinion:
Prime Charice vs old So Hyang isn't comparable.
2. This is a ramdon performance and suits better on Charice because she has those fierce low notes (that a Mezzo CAN hit better than a Soprano overall). This isn't a good song for SH.

I completely disagree to those people here in the comment section who choose which one is much better. Sohyang is good at her headvoice and mixing her voice (mixed) has a nice technique, and voice quality (maybe pronunciation of her made it sound a little bit off but it is considerable because she's not that fluent to english or because of her accent). Charice shows how she's good at chest voice, also has a good technique and voice quality. There's no need for comparison both showcase their talent with such ease. :) peace y'all
I dont know why many people gave bad comments about sohyang. All she did was trying to raise her standard and match series while charice also did her best to control her voice to match her. I think they tried to meet in the middle and it was nice. Both have their colors.

Charice has a powerful voice no doubt but i love this performance w/ sohyang and specially "a whole new world " w/ kyuhyun and "i will always love you" w/ Park Jung Hyun. They were done impromptu and were able to produce great harmonies. I'm sure the Korean idols didn't try to compete with her but just enjoyed singing with her. I'm just thankful to the Koreans who received her with warmth and were genuinely awed by her performances, not to take anything away from the Korean idols , they have great voices as well, for these songs to come out as they did , unrehearsed, were able to produce great music together. Bravo!!!
