- Nihilego was available in Into the Wild event in Season: Max Out. As a preparation of Go Wild Area, Tapu Koko and Nihilego was available as special raid bosses.
Nihilego has been defeated as Solo Raid in summer 2023. In that Solo Raid, Primal Groudon has defeated Poison Jab/ Rock Slide Nihilego by its own under Clear weather. With new raid system allows Mega Evolution/Primal Reversion boosting themselves in Solo Raid, Primal Groduon is now able to beat Nihilego as Solo Raid without weather boost.
This time, Primal Groudon would challenge Poison Jab/ Sludge Bomb Nihilego as a Solo Raid under Cloudy weather. With Cloudy weather boosting both Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb, Nihilego hits pretty hard on Primal Groudon even when those moves are resisted by it.
Apart from Mega Boost applying to the users themselves, there are two more critical difference between old raid system and new raid system.
First one, in old system, part of the damage dealt had been cancelled upon rejoining in raid battles because of the disagreement between server and client. As a result, it usually took around 15 to regain the lost progress after each rejoin, which adds up to a total of 20-30 seconds time lost each time. This was what we referred as regen glitch.
In new system, regen glitch was fully eliminated. Which means the time loss from rejoining now is the time one would need to go through all the buttons to heal the raid team. With some optimization, that could be done in 6 seconds now. A rejoin prior to August worth the same as 4 rejoins now, which means cost of rejoining is extremely cheap to be a burden in the new raid system.
This coupled with the second changes, where dodging is now taking 1 second, has push the strategy from dodging to rejoining. As shown in Giratina-Origin raids, it was completely fine to rejoin nearly a dozen of time.
In the same time, it also makes the raid battle system converges to a single best counters. Even if you don't have a team of 6 Dusk Mane Necrozma, using 2 (or even 1) of them is more likely to be optimal than using 4 extra Shadow Metagross with them, if you can rejoin fast enough.
This time, even though if Nihilego hits pretty hard on Primal Groudon, it would still fight without dodging and rejoin when its HP ran down. After 6 rejoins, Primal Groudon has defeated Nihilego with 40 seconds left at the end.
