As a wife with an old house and an old basement, I understand. I think your basement looks fabulous !!!! I think you need to rethink getting rid of that old sink. It's so handy to have something like that for messy jobs. I have always wanted an utility sink. Also, a basement is a place, a perfect place for those necessary, not glamorous parts of life. And you made it look pretty. I love it. And yes, clean, is a big part of looking good.
I attached a curtain rod to the underside of my laundry shelf. I placed it about three inches from the wall. Just far enough away from the wall to conceal pipes but far enough back to sit behind the washer-dryer. I made a short (24" ... longer than a valance, shorter than the average tier) curtain out of a piece of white dotted swiss fabric I had laying around. Honestly, it's one of the best things I've ever done. Lol. I spend a LOT of time in that room so seeing that lovely little dotted swiss backdrop makes me happy!
It looks great Hilary, and the fact you were using what you had, not spending money for the sake of it, just fantastic, and as you said your using it all the time so why not enjoy the space, more bright more fun, not that doing laundry is fun, but you know what i mean 🤗, Thankyou x
oh, I think that sink is fabulous, and especially since you painted it. I don't know that you could find a better laundry room sink anyway. looks great! fabulous use of a weekend family project.
That is wonderful! I would want to be down there, too. And that sink is amazing! It’s definitely made to last. Better than any sink you could purchase today. It looks so nice painted. A hidden gem. 😀
Doing the mundane hardwork is so rewarding. No one sees this space but tackling the dark ugly parts of an older home bring so much more meaning and fulfillment, Hillary your such an inspiration to us but more so your kids and your husband.
Very sweet area, very well done. :-) I grew up with those old basement sinks and would almost give my eyeteeth to have one now. The cracked left side is still usable: hang dripping-wet coats to dry over it and use it as a drainer for things washed in the right side are two ideas. You have a lovely channel! TFS.
Hillary I Always appreciate how you make budget sense and use what you already have on hand and make such an amazing transformation! You never disappoint!
Awe! What inspiration! We just got a new furnace and water heater in our basement….new set up needed….mmmm I’m thinking I may need a cute spruced up space….love this ONE WEEKEND BETTER!
I totally go with the philosophy of clean is free as well. It’s amazing what cleaning can do. Love your weekend makeover. Great job! It’s worth the time and effort because we all spend hours and hours doing laundry. Laundry rooms should be as nice as anywhere else in a house.
Laundry area looks so great, love the floral towels, and the painted sink too.. Perfect ❤️ I think your wise to make a stock pile area, the prices are going higher and higher every time I go food shopping. I am also stocking up on items that can be put on a stock pile shelf. My laundry room is right off the kitchen, but I have it decorated Parisian theme, I have a canvas of two lovers walking by the Eiffel Tower and my detergent are in a Parisian themed containers, just these little things can make it fun to do laundry.
You really made this space bright and, dare I say, pretty? Those shelves will be such a help and I love that you can hang clothes to dry as well. I was so excited when we were able to move our laundry out of the basement that I just kept telling my husband how happy and grateful I was for a tiled floor, sheetrock, and two wall hung cabinets. He finally asked me if the dirty clothes were happier, too! 🤣
You were in the middle of your basement reno right before we started ours. My husband and I were not 100% satisfied with the idea of enclosing so much of the open space for storage. When I saw how you did your laundry room I showed my husband and we basically did the exact same thing, right down to the doors. We absolutely LOVE it, it looks great while still offering storage and not taking up so much room that we were wanting to finish. Thank you so much!
Wow. Beautiful makeover. I love how you and Dan use what you already have and transformed your laundry into a clean and pretty space. I too have always kept extra food and supplies on hand to save money when buying things on sale and nowadays because of the supply chain problems.
Great makeover. Love the mindset of embracing the not-so-fun tasks like laundry with a change in perspective that involves a little bit of effort to making it as enjoyable as possible. Clean is free? Love that. Tidy is free too 😉. Often we think of a makeover as something that needs to cost money yet cleaning and tidying go a long way in making a space over. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a lovely day 😊.
I have the exact sink in my 1950 cottage basement. Since most new laundry sinks are single anyway, I put a board over one side to use as a mini counter if I need a quick cutting surface, etc. Also,if you found a pretty sheet or tablecloth at the thrift store, you could hang it behind the washer and dryer by attaching it to the back shelf runner. (and still get to the knobs and hose when you need to) It came out great and very functional.🙌🏻
Not only does the room look wonderful, but by using things you already have, you're cutting down on "clutter" (spare paintings, leftover paint, spare rug), and it's all free! The storage racks look very useful, too.
Hillary, your videos are so encouraging!! I am having some iron issues and go for infusions weekly. I usually go for 6weeks every 6months. This time I went way to long and just started my infusions last week so tomorrow will be my 2nd week. I am so exhausted and just want to sleep but on the other hand I have so much to do. After watching your video I have a little energy to do something for a couple hours. Please know that your videos are looked forward to by so many tired mamas. God is using you in ways you probably dont even realize. Thank you! I know you have so much on your plate and finding time for your channel can probably be hard sometimes but I promise you it is worth it. I thank God for videos like yours today!!!! Happy Sunday!!! God bless you and your sweet family!!!! 🙏❤🙏❤
Thanks Hillary this is inspirational. We probably all have so much more than we know that could be used to do a makeover like this. For very low cost you made that space into a lovely work area. You're lucky your husband is so handy too !
That looks great, Hilary !! You know what would look cute: a Ralph Lauren print ( or similar style) fabric skirt around your nice big laundry sink ! A little velcro attached to a gathered skirt would attach it to the bottom edge and look nice !
That was an amazingly satisfying project! Such a small investment of time, effort and on-hand items, made a HUGE impact! It looks and functions great! Another bonus from painting concrete, is it makes it so much easier to clean in the future, and it cuts out a source of dust. Great job!!
Sometimes these free changes are the most fun! Love your laundry room. Mine has an unfinished ceiling with all the copper pipes exposed. But like you, I hung pics up and a place for my ironing board to hang. Great job!
We busted out our cast iron sink I wish I had footage.. I was actually think of overhead storage but did think it was an actual thing. I’m inspired. Clean is free!!
Really like the artwork and floral towel additions. Isn’t it amazing how different the sink looks? Beautiful. The shelving was a great idea. God bless you guys.
I think your old fashioned sink is very adorable • and yes! clean is free • thanks for the inspiration • currently working on my parent's laundry room using what we have and I see light at the end of the tunnel
I love the simple changes you made! It really made the laundry area so charming! I'm in the middle my laundry makeover too and this gave me so many ideas! Thank you!🤗
Hello Hilary! Wow, it looks wonderful 😁🧺. Those little touches always make such a difference. An idea for the slop sink, maybe you can have Dan cut a board to lay on top of it to cover. And notch out where the faucet is, that way air can still flow through. You can paint or stain it and it’ll hide the inside that you don’t like 😊. Have a nice day today and enjoy the weather ☺️☀️.
That was actually an idea we tossed around! We do use it often tho and moving a board to wash seemed a little inconvenient so we decided not to but it’s a good idea 💛
Your laundry area looks great!! I love that cast iron sink! You could put a skirt around the base with some Velcro. Ticking fabric would be cute! Just some unsolicited decor ideas! 😂
Hillary, I absolutely Love this!!! The small improvements make a Big impact! I can’t agree more with “Clean is Free!” A motto we live by. The slop sink really isn’t bad at all; the paint is lovely. I would not replace. Give it a good scrub down inside, paint the base and add some inexpensive plastic baskets underneath (more storage for paint or cleaning supplies), and perhaps add a fabric skirt (coordinating traditional plaid?) attached with stick on Velcro to hide and add more of that cheery charm. There are also adorable vintage reproduction faucets that include a soap dish that could be added later. Also a washboard would be so nostalgic and useful. Tfs, ❤️it!
@J Condon 💕 good idea with the fabric skirt. I love the sink too. your ideas are right up my alley. I found an old washboard which I'm keeping for my spruce up of my parents laundry room. Great ideas!
It looks beautiful. Congratulations on your sponsor. I loved 'clean is free'. Further proof you don't need to spend money or rush out and buy new items xx
well done..it looks awesome...I wish I had an old utility sink like yours here in Athens...its so handy!! we had them outside the kitchen door back in South Africa,,,,were also used as a huge icebox for parties...a big block of ice and you are ready!!
Love it. Don't replace that sink, it's fabulous!!! Just spray it with fume free oven cleaner inside, lay plastic wrap over it and let it sit for about an hour. You'd be surprised.
Now the entire basement looks charming. Great job. I love your cast iron sink. If you do replace it, would you save it for another space such as a future gardening shed or green house?
I think some stencil on the sink would be really cute!! Love the video. I have a tiny laundry closet but I painted the door and use some storage bins and it made s whole world of difference in the room.
A little ingenuity, motivation, muscle, and voila'....100 times better. Making a mundane task better is always a bonus.
You are so blessed to have an amazing husband to help!!

Thank you! The only thing is that the left basin is cracked so we can only use the right
Can it be repaired?
I thought the same thing!

I love it! The green sink is probably my favorite part.

It looks great. I like the over head shelf. The color on the sink I really like. You and Dan make a great team. Take care. ❤️
YES! Thank the Good Lord she has a husband who actually does things w/ her!!
That made such a big difference. It’s beautiful! No wonder you want to do laundry!
Great transformation on a budget! Now you will be looking for things to wash so you can enjoy your new space 🩲🧦👕👖😄
Such a pretty space to work in. Whoever asked if the washer and dryer were new is precious! 💜
Just gave my laundry room a facelift too. I know it sounds silly but it makes me so happy! Sometimes it’s just the little things in life.
