No, I think Jin knew it already but maybe he thought that it doesn't make sense and it will do no good since you know it's really big deal to SK. I also remember how Jin said on one of their festas that if he thinks it would be likely impossible (not exactly but something like that), he tends to easily give up that will basically lead him to no choice but just observe. PS. I got the 'observe' thingy when they were asked what if bts like the same woman, and then he answered that he will only observe but will not fight.
