Growing up my Dad was into photography. Our local camera shop was run but Grag Boyington's unit Photographer. Pappy was my hero. I was able to get an autographed picture that read Happy Landings to my wing man Mac. Signed Grag "Pappy" Boyington. I've now been a Pilot and Flight Instructor for nearly 40 years. Thanks for the inspiration Pappy.
Outstanding. I've been a fan of Marine Aviation since I was a kid. Among my Dad's friends were a few good Air Wing veterans. When it was my time to serve, I knew my branch. I worked on the early Harriers.
Another outstanding episode from Bruce Gamble chok full amazing footage! If anyone were searching for the intricate details of 214, this would be the place to come. Well done, Sir! Two Thumbs Up from the state of Texas!! 👍👍
@@skywarriormedia Not a problem Shooter. During my ten years in the Navy, I killed more brain cells than humanly possible, so it's even harder for me, lol.
Fantastic video, thank you. I have read a few books on this period in history and this theatre of war. My favorite was the book about Pappy and the Black Sheep. Going to watch this entire series. What an excellent job you are doing.
Having read both pieces from Bruce on the VFM-214 and their Famous leader (albeit under an early edition, as it seems), I can only recommend reading those. Probably the most revealing pieces on the subject . Thank you then for putting, on top of that, the time and efforts to come around this fascinating series of videos.
Yamato’s attempt to destroy the US pilots with ended with most of his naval experienced pilots killed. Zeroes were victims of the wildcats because 2 wildcats were worth 4-6 Zeroes
As a auto tech I had a customer who's mother had dated Boyington. Bob told his mother that he was going to try and get Pappy to autograph his Black Sheep book. Virginia, Bob's mom an old prankster told Bob to tell Boyington "Hi dad my mother is Virginia" he thought Pappy was going to have a stroke so he gave up the gag and was warmly greeted Bob because he still cared for his old friend. Book autographed with a note to Virginia. True Story I saw the book. This was around 1990.
@Skywarrior Media did you know the Wildcat Butch O'Hare flew on his Medal Of Honor flight was in VMF-214? I discovered this by obtaining its history card and the VMF-214 War Diary for Sept 1942. Do you want me to send you the history card and the War Diary
I saw a similar post on FB and replied to that. 214 was in its early training status at MCAS Ewa at that time and flew F4F-3s for a few months. Pilots wrecked quite a few of them!
What the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS lacks 8n material goods, they certainly make up for and Exceed any other branch in discipline, motivation, Pride and TENACITY!!! GOD BLESS the U.S.M.C!
A UNIQUE PERIOD IN HISTORY.............FANTASTIC THAT SOME OF THESE WW2 AIRCRAFT ARE STILL FLYING AT AIRSHOWS TODAY. ANY ONE WANT TO MY P51 MUSTANG......~$5M.

Bruce Campbell??? I LOVED you in Evil Dead, and Army of Darkness! Didn't know you were into history.
No. Sorry. Last name is Gamble. Pretty cool association, though!

Thanks so much! There are more in the pipeline about military aviation.
I find your books to be absolutely fantastic. I’m thankful for the opportunity to have read them and to watch this series.
Wow, this is really rewarding to hear--thank you! There's more to come in the VMF-214 series and other topics.

I'm sincerely glad you appreciate the books and the video series. Part 7 is almost finished.
Very well organized and presented documentary, with excellent small details on personnel and events.
Thank you most sincerely. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
This is a fine channel. You have obviously worked hard to make it what it is. Interesting and enjoyable. Good history, too! I subbed recently.
Thank you! Comments like yours really validate all the effort. Great to hear!
Wow, this is great ! Looking forward to the other videos. Thanks !
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Wildcat was not a bad early war fighter. In fact, it was pretty damn good!
Yes it was! It held the line until the F6F and F4U became available.
In fact in its GM produced variant it was the fighter of the escort carriers and racked an impressive 6:1 kill ratio.
great videos thank you !❤
You're so welcome!
Very well done, TY
Glad you enjoyed it!
I dont know where you found all the film....but put together told the story very well.
Thanks! It takes a lot of scrounging and hunting to build up a library of usable footage.
Excellent.
Thank you!

Why would anyone think a airship was a good idea someone lost a lot of money
Don't forget that rigid airship development was taking place a hundred years ago. Different technology, different everything.
