    Like the channel, greased my Gasgas EC-330 linkage, swingarm, and steering bearings first thing when I bought it before riding. Keep showing those little tech tips.

    I have been looking high and low for a video that shows how someone would clean needle bearings from linkage, I just don't feel the need to spend 100+ $ on a whole linkage set when only the two needle bearings are bad and I bet this will work just fine for my application, thanks!

    Great topic! Because I seem to only buy 20+ yo motorcycles, I lost count of the number of linkage bearings I've restored. It saved me a lot of money over time. By the way, my Yamahas have caged bearings...just saying.😁

    Good luck finding those needle bearings when they hit the floor. I lost a couple on my '23 300xc. They are different size than previous yrs and not in stock. I was lucky enough to find a donor bike that they only wanted engine for a kart and bought the triangle from them.

    I get the wanting to save parts thing. I used to have more time than money and had to save things when I could. That being said I still get satisfaction from doing it. Hitting it with the money stick is also an option but as a mechanic I still like to save money when I can. This sport has too many wear parts that you’ll spend money on anyway.

    Moved away from any motorcycle brand "grease" and went with a high quality EP2 Grease or AquaLube. Never looked back.

  • @williamcrotts7054
    @williamcrotts7054 10 місяців тому +2

    23 year bikes from Austria had little to no grease from the factory. Looked more like 10w40 motor oil. Best to check and lube all bearings before you even ride the bike IMHO. Unless of course you want to go through this. I've owned over 35 Ktm's and have never bought a bearing. Wheel bearings? Yes. Chassis, never.

    Bikes like grease. So, if it isn’t a muddy day and mostly dusty, just wipe it down if anything. Anytime that pressure washer gets turned on, and you get anywhere near some seals, you’re just washing away whatever grease is around/in there.

    I love how you are not using gloves. You are right, we should use gloves but I am not a glove guy... never have been. I am an aircraft mechanic and most people wear gloves all the time, some still wear them while dealing with paperwork...nuts. Each person will go through at least 20 pairs of latex/nitrile gloves everyday. As you would say...whatever, lol

    • @onthethrottle7104
      @onthethrottle7104 10 місяців тому +1

      Be careful about the no glove comment. I've been around several techs that have gotten different blood cancers, kidney issues, liver issues, etc. due to toxic matters they are around. Some people can be around this stuff very infrequent and still get some type of cancer. Your skin is like a sponge and absorbs fluids into your blood stream (and your lungs do the same thing when you breath different vapors). Go talk to Camron Nemela, he's just one example of what could happen to you very easily. If you don't want to protect yourself that's great but for young people wanting to work on mechanical things it would be nice to inform them to do things right and to protect themselves. Peace to you brother, I don't mean any disrespect at all.

      You don't have to throw them away. I wash my hands with the gloves on and use em again. They do cost .25 each ya know. :)

      My biggest issue is that I can’t pick little things up. Like those needles. No way I can pick them up. I know I should wear them but I have to get work done too.

    FYI , I have had some anodized parts discolor in an ultrasonic. I typically use simple green so maybe that's got something to do with it.

    • @highlandcycles

    Would be nice if they would be like the old Honda XR's and put zerks on all the linkage pivots, that's one big advantage to the PDS suspension plus no under hang.

    Is this the first time greasing the suspension bearings? I have less than 10 hours on my 300xc and wondering if I should do it now because I've seen some post on Facebook of people's bikes that are new and KTM going really light with grease.

    what's your opinion on white lithium grease? i don't see anyone using it on youtube, but when i had my 01 250sx that's all i used. now i have a 21' 690 enduro and i didn't want to mix white lithium with the stock grease so i paid the premium for the motorex stuff

      Yes sir, did that
      Was just weird the way it fired and started to rev up like normal then dropped to a low idle and died
      All with the choke on
      I’ve cleaned the crap out of this carb and blown out all passages
      Bike supposedly sat for a long time which I believe, tore it apart and put a top end in it and shimmed the valves
      But there was a lot of varnish/crap in the carb from the gas deteriorating

      Going to play with settings still, starting from scratch on jetting/settings and I know the previous owner was in that carb
      Wondering if I had the idle set too low yesterday if that was an issue
      For some reason I didn’t even think to mess with it until we put the bike away

  • @jeffschaller1562
    @jeffschaller1562 10 місяців тому +1

    Thanks Morgan, I also tend to try to save those bearings to last few more months. As a yz250 owner you know which linkage bearing tends to get dried up the most. Lol
    If you have time can you tell me if an ultrasonic cleaner is able to deep clean a bike carb? I have a stubborn kx60 Carb that I suspect has a hard to clear blockage and wondered if an ultrasonic cleaner can clear out those small ports etc. If yes do I need to remove any carb part prior to cleaning it?

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  10 місяців тому +1

      It helps a ton. I think that the heat is the key on those tiny passages. The ultrasonic gets super hot and usually really helps with those stubborn blockages
