First Lady flags off students to China for the global ICT competitions & seeds future program

  • The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has flagged off eighteen (18) outstanding Ugandan students and instructors who are traveling to Shenzhen, China, to participate in the Huawei Global ICT Competition and Seeds for the Future Program.
    The flagging-off ceremony was held at State House Nakasero. It was witnessed by, among others, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Zhang Li Zhong, Huawei’s Managing Director Xie Qiuxiang, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports Ketty Lamaro, and officers from the Chinese Embassy, Huawei Technologies - Uganda and the Education Ministry.
    Among the 18 are three students each from the Universities of Gulu, Kabale, and Muni, who are participating in the 2023/24 Huawei Global ICT Competition this month, the competition which will attract 17,000 students from 98 countries across the globe. Others include five students from Makerere University who are part of the ten scheduled to participate in the 2024 Seeds for the Future Program later this year.
    Mrs. Janet Museveni lauded the outstanding students and the team of instructors for demonstrating a strong commitment to excellence.
