Well spoken, Camille. Luke 2:52 speaks about the multiplied facets of a human being. "And Jesus grew in wisdom (mental), and in stature (physiological) and in favor with God (spiritual) and man (relational)." And since we grow, change and mature in these areas, it is also possible for us to, at various times and for various reasons, find ourselves challenged or limited in these same areas. As someone who has counseled thousands of men, women, boys and girls over the past 30 years, and because scripture and science support a holistic approach, I like the encouragement you offer about discovering help where help is available, and the kind of assistance which caters to your needs, as an individual. This may include professional assistance, whether it be a psychiatric doctor, physician, or counselor (relational), it may include medication (mental), it may involve nutrition and exercise (physiological), and it almost certainly will involve the presence and assistance of God (spiritual). And, of course, this reflects back on the four aspects of mankind in the scripture with which I began these comments. Anxiety and Depression may be circumstantial in nature, based on the momentary experiences and elements of our lives, (an external source) or the genesis of these emotions may relate to a chemical imbalance, childhood trauma, or mindset (an internal source). There's a wonderful adage which states, "If you want something you never had, you may have to do something you've never done." I think we have to be proactive when it comes to our minds, bodies, spirits and relationships. As a "for instance," I often give my clients an assignment based on the acronym, FINERS. F-Fun, I-Intimacy, N-Nutrition, E-Exercise, R-Rest, S-Spirituality. I will ask the person to do some writing which characterizes what those variables currently look like in their lives, and having identified the neglect or dysfunction to rewrite the assignment, and express what they would like these areas to look like in their lives. Of course, what follows is for them to begin to practice these new, and different and better ways of thinking and behaving. Thank you for being you, and for sharing your words of wisdom, and vocal talent on this medium, as an encouragement to others who may be struggling with the same emotions with which you have previously struggled. "But day by day, and as long as today shall last, continue to encourage one another." Hebrews 3:13. (FD)
