Choosing to fight a direct action component as a partisan is still a bad idea and a great way to die.
Regardless, this video is just meant as a general guideline in order to counter “Battle drills” used by infantry components across the globe (in Minecraft) a lot of topics I simply did not have time to cover in this video, (we could go on all day about aircraft/drones/etc…) and UA-cam is holding uploads in prison for up to 48 hours now for me.

The Taliban knew our battle drills, and they would use our doctrinal reactions against us by planting ied's and traps in between us and them so that it wasn't the ambush itself that produced the most casualties, but our actual response to the ambush that produced the casualty with victim activated devices. This in turn caused us to adjust our tactics to either buttoning down in place and returning fire from a static position (inadvisable) or pushing through the ambush and just denying them the engagement in general. But this gave them freedom of movement across the terrain and restricted our movement. It only takes one guy getting blown in half because he got on line just like the doctrine says before everyone for the rest of that deployment immediately assumes that getting on line is going to get them blown in half. So now without doctrine on our side we became overly reliant on air support or just turning tail and running. I know you're not here to hear combat stories, but I'm just granting credence to what you're saying.

It helps that in both wars, the US was their biggest recruitment agent. Destroying homes and families is a pretty bad way to win hearts and minds. That being said, it's pretty much unavoidable when fighting an insurgency, so it would likely be the same with any occupational force.

The US Army standard Marksmanship qualification is 23 out of 40 hits, while in a static position either prone supported, kneeling, or standing. That's an hit rate, on a static target, while standing static as well, of 58%. When both the soldier and the target are absolutely still, the soldier is only expected to hit ~60% of the shots taken. Now add moving targets -15% hit rate. Now add the target shooting back -25% hit rate. and you're left with a soldier whose hitting their intended target ~20% of the time.
The Army ACFT only asks for 11 push-ups, a deadlift of 140lbs and a 2 mile run time under 21 minutes. The other two events are negligible. While this is well above the American average, it's achievable for anyone who goes to the gym/track two days per week.
Tactics are something you have to read and practice constantly. Even the most trained and drilled infantryman has NCO's and Officers yelling commands at him constantly. "A squad push through, B squad suppress!" "A squad stop and suppress! B squad flank right!" etc.
Experience. This is a hard one to quantify. If you're facing a NATO infantry squad sized element, with another squad nearby to support. It is very likely the majority of them have 1-3 years experience with NCO's sprinkled through with 5-7 years experience. The officer has 1-3 years experience, any more and he'd be promoted to desk jockey. While removing him is helpful, its really not pivotal. NCO's and radios are always primary targets, no matter their experience.
From the PoV of a insurgent style force, their ultimate goal is to sew as much chaos into the occupying force as possible within a minute. Everything after that will be the occupiers gaining momentum a grain of sand at a time.
History: The Viet Kong did not stay on station and fight through. They used surprised and prepared positions to target occupying vehicles and NCO's as hard as they could; using RPG's and prepared mortars. Once they US began to talk the MG's, proving the US has regained a superior fighting posture, the VC would mag dump everything they had remaining and begin exfil operations. If they were feeling particularly frisky, they'd mount an organized retrograde operation through rough terrain, mine fields, or set hasty traps. The point was to always be just a few meters too far back for US to effectively make good hits, but close enough to be observed, thus drawing the US troops deeper into VC K.Z.'s
Eventually, US air power would show up and cause the VC to rout, but this style of attack ensured disproportionate effects on the US troops.

I think we have all heard those Fudd thinkers who are also the same ones who are not opposed to mag capacity restrictions, "common sense" gun control measures and other nonsense until they start coming for their shotguns. That's the ONLY reason shotguns didn't get added to the 91 Assault Weapons Bill is Fudds heard proposals for banning certain styles of pump shotgun and they spoke up just enough to have the NRA negotiate the bill to remove them from the ban.
Same guys think that they can use a belt and Don't need a tourniquet, if their .357 or .45acp doesn't do the job in 1 shot that wouldn't have changed with a double stack 9mm 😂 Good thing this Fudd mentality is dying off and MANY new gun owners aren't just getting a handgun or a shotgun to collect dust. I know first time buyers who are putting in range time, dry fire and taking classes across the board from stuff like this to TacMed/TECC style courses. Same dudes went from buying their first 9mm in 2020 to now owning multiple handguns for them and their wife to carry. They almost all own at least 1 AR and a stack of mags now. Usually a shotgun and 22lr rifle or pistol in the mix. These are guys donating to FPC and GOA and not the NRA. Constitutional carry in almost 30 states. Those elders who are thinking J frame are being pushed out by people who are better trained than ever before. It's a beautiful thing

I cannot agree more with this. Often in training we end up just doing battle drills with blanks against a notional still target and it is done with a checklist. When I started playing opfor, I literally did this baited squad attack you mentioned over and over again. Some of the methods that I started doing to fix some of the "squad attack" battle drills was I would make the maneuvering team take a shallow 45 degree "flank" and then move the team in contact the opposite 45 degrees. This way, you don't go too deep into enemy territory and you have managed to 90 degree flank an enemy. Most MCWPs they usually advise doing bold flanks with 2/3rds of your organic force just in case you flank deep and hit another enemy element in wait.
Another method for defeating the squad attack is going to a frontal assault with your elements to overwhelm their support by fire as they are separated. You know they are going to take about 1-2 minutes to attack you. So, if a minute passes and you don't see the enemy bring more soldiers to place in a support by fire, you know they probably are trying to flank you and you can overwhelm their support by fire with a frontal assault. Funny enough, Chesty Puller and the Marines did this a lot and H. J. Poole covered this tactic in "The Last Hundred Yards".
Finally, if you think you are getting flanked. Just move your element a little. Bound them slightly back, to the right, to the left. Many times, you can make the flanking element miss you entirely and end up assaulting through the front of you. Or you can hit the flanking element as they are running in a file to you because you shifted more right or left. It's so wild that the Army doesn't teach the common counters and doesn't have good answers to basic problems like "what if the enemy moves?" or "what if we're both flanking each other"?

What you were talking about when it comes to the majority of servicemen not really seeing combat is spot on. My time in the Marine corps I never saw action but I can tell you in a 20-year career of private security, and a multi-year law enforcement career, that something like 70% of private security and over 80% of police officers never even have to draw their weapon in anger their entire career. So would not surprise me that that's true about military personnel as well. Especially, since police officers are engaged with their job interacting with the hostile public more often than the average military member, even in the combat arms.

    • @phl_knives
      @phl_knives 3 місяці тому +9

I work in TacMed training and have trained public safety and Military personnel along with some civilians.
Being on both sides on classes as a role player LE or being OpFor I can say that many of the people the general public thinks is all door kickers on the military or trained like SWAT as a patrol cop. Definitely not the case.
During OpFor work I've seen a group knowing they're going to a "hearts and minds" scenario with possibilities of hostile forces in the area. They would be "hit" and fall apart as soon as pressure was put on. We had 4 OpFor vs a squad initially and got ran over hiding in huts, under vehicle and basically trying to figure out what to do next. Next course we gave them a platoon 25 ea group and it was actually worse with people not covering areas, or 3 people holding one building corner while a whole section was open on another side allowing OpFor to walk within 50m and engage again. We warned then prior that even someone downed is still a threat. Nearly everyone who took me out would roll me over to disarm and be greeted with a training frag or inert (obviously) S-vest. This happened with all OpFor and they kept doing it. 😂
As for the LEO/EMS especially those on RTF teams. We typically did 4-5 and I lead them into an active threat scenario with a long gun, they have been briefed of rough casualties count and threat is likely in another wing of the building being hunted already. We come up the steps, they start care in a fatal funnel which is taught never do. Use rooms and get off the warm zone. No fail the OpFor will step out and fire a few blanks or Sims and they all either scatter or I've seen freeze more times than I would have thought. One scenario I had 3 LE and 1 EMS along with myself on the X, shots fired. I'm "wounded" and LEOs froze for a good 5 seconds before hitting cover in a room, while leaving me bleeding in the hallway. After an instructor starts screaming at them did they miss someone?!! They quick open the door and dragged me in. This is not uncommon. I can tell a student who has prior training, been in some shit or is on a special team like SWAT without even asking by how they are in class. SWAT guys are dialed in and work well. Most others fall apart in stress with lower level of stress than a real MassCas event.
This was typically suburban EMS and cops in an affluent area who have never seen much before. I've seen a few times someone pick up a trainer gun and muzzle sweep an entire room of their team with finger on the trigger with no idea how to make it safe.
To this point I was OpFor in a scenario for unknown medical emergency called in. Immediately they see 3 casualties down, and me walking around dazed in a smoked out room. Fire alarm sounds and casing on the floor. 2 officer pat me down before walking me to the CCP in another area of the building. The pat down was abysmal. They missed a G17 blue gun appendix carried. Both did. They turn the corner and I draw. They both start cursing and telling me I hid it somewhere. In debrief I told them they touched it in the pat but didn't actually find it. After the exercise we talked a little bit about their methods and how it was missed. I asked how many guns have the pulled off people in their careers. One officer of 12 years pulled 1. The other with 15 years had found 3. 2 on pat downs and 1 under a seat. I told them this is a lesson I hope you take because if you're complacent like this in real life it's not a bruised ego. After classes they talked to their LT who heard about their miss and said refresher training was happening on searches ASAP after that.
Your stats are correct. Out of 1000s at this point who have been in front of me training. Mostly public safety, but Mil as well. It was rare that anyone was ever drawing their firearms on duty. They qualify annually and some never get in a range day until annually qualifying or a few days leading up to get their shots right. During a Mil class talking with a Sgt Major who was a POC on site said this crew had minimal trigger time. This would be the closest thing to solid tactics they would be seeing outside of basic. We were teaching some tactics but more medical under fire. Those never in the military or law enforcement who role play with different companies I've worked with are always shocked. They all think that everyone is SWAT or SF guys and realize quickly that isn't the case. This was shocking for me when I started. City cops occasionally are better because they're in more dense populations and higher crime. My cop buddies have almost all drawn on duty and a few in shoots. This is rare for anywhere surrounding the area though

Out here in central texas, we may not have the heavy woods and forest cover youve talked about being so abundant in your area, but what we do have is thick, thorny mesquite thickets that most non-native folks would deem impassable. Great hiding spots to hunker down in if you had to and comfort isnt a priority. Knowing yiur terrain and hiw to navigate it is paramount in situations like what you e deacribed; chances are that the Minecraft team youre up against isnt used to traversing the same landscapes that you and your buddies grew up hiking, hunting and living in. And thats not even considering the networks of narrow dirt backroads that crisscross rural areas, some of which dont wven show up on most gps maps and systems. Knowing where you need to be, how to get there quickly and quietly, and how to get out as fast and effiecient as you can will make a world of difference. Luring an enemy monecraft elwment into an area that a native knows is not a good place to be can change the whole outcome of such a scenario. If you can anticipate which direction an enemy flanking element will maneuver due to an obvious terrain advantage, flipping that advantage and turning that location into a kill zone can become fairly easy. Another consideration is localized weather and how it affects the terrain. You, as a native, know that certain areas can look like simple terrain, but that a single rain can turn that area into an impassable mud pit while doing little to change its appearance, or that a creek bed in hot weather is going to be crawling with snakes or other unsavory wildlife. While they may not be deadly to a kitted out combatant, it can still be enough to make a non native person pause and hesitate to push forward. As for creating the fougasse that you described, utilizing existing butrows or washes to create that or other traps would save time and a lot of effort and materials, as well as potentially disguising it from anyone looking for auch a thing. Just a thought.

In part because of the need for more special forces units in general, similiar to why the Green Berets started doing a lot more direct action stuff as well at the time. Still, it's sad that the US military's (and a lot of other militaries) take away was not that the conventional units need to get better but to just shift towards more special forces.

Probably around 2017-18 if you saw a SEAL platoon, a Ranger platoon, or a SF DA team raid a compound you’d have no idea who was who except maybe equipment being used, everyone essentially got keyholed into direct action night raids because that’s what Afghanistan needed, conventional infantry really should never have been used in Afghanistan, the terrain was t suitable

JTAC here: clouds and fog significantly degrade ISR and CAS capabilities. The only airborne sensor that’s going to get through clouds is synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and only the only Minecraft aircraft that carry it F-15s, F-35s, B1s and MQ9s (as a pod on the MQ9 so not always) and that’s not real-time sensing so there’s a delay between the actual mapping and then interpretation of the imagery, they can’t effectively target anything moving (in Minecraft). Not sure about the China/Russia Minecraft militaries but I’m sure they have something equivalent but probably not as many systems. Drones also won’t fly in fog or significant wind. HF comms are also significantly degraded in fog, and thick cloud cover can fuck up satellite comms. I’ve always said that if you wanna fight the Minecraft American military (in minecraft) you need to do it in shitty weather and move a lot, because it relies on ISR and Fires, and when those work properly, it’s extremely deadly.

Sustain: The way you broke this down was informative, enjoyable, and digestible and did a great job of communicating the mindset for small unit tactics in a nonpermissive environment. Very good explanation of talking guns and the necessary elements of lifting/shifting. I also enjoy that you communicated manual triggers rather than electronic or radio triggers for the fougasse. NATO countries have access to THOR systems that negate radio-controlled detonation systems on the Minecraft Server.
    Improve:
    1) The base assumption of an infantry squad or group of Tarkov Operators in the open without any immediate support (ex. the rest of the platoon half a mile away) is a bit contrived based on how I've (and I'm sure you) have observed NATO maneuver units operate. This situation would suffice for the sake of training the drill/counterdrill, but you made the criticism of rehearsals conducted in US Army training lanes as unrealistic and a weak point in training. Lets not fall into the same trap -
1a) First world occupying forces and other Tarkov Operators will rarely stagger-column patrol down a hardball road without bringing some form of wheeled/tracked armor, whether it is a humvee, bearcat, matv, stryker, m1200, improvised uparmored trucks (see Syria) or something heavier. These vehicles will act as a base of fire with a mounted machinegun, a piece of cover, and will allow a swift escape. The only time I have seen presence patrols without at least some kind of gun-truck nearby is in super rural, mountainous terrain, or in huge agricultural areas like those poppy fields in Helmand (Even then, the trucks were up on the road and could engage far out targets with a .50 and thermals). I know you come from dismount-rangerbrain, but realize that a majority of AD/NG infantry units and Arma Players are stryker units, and most federal/state police forces on the AltisLifeRPserver have ample access to Bearcats and 2nd hand military armored vehicles. It's important to reckon with the likely reality that contact with these elements will have to be initiated by somehow disabling a vehicle, much the same way US Military vehicles were often disabled via IED/RPG to initiate ambushes during the GWOT & in Takistan. Unlike the GWOT - first world countries, while sometimes having readily available small arms, do not often have cold war stockpiles of anti-armor weaponry ready and available for anyone to possess. Consider this impasse in your planning.
    2) Follow-on and exfil could use more detail. As a partisan and Tarkov Operator in the first world, a infantry/policing unit reporting contact and then going silent or reporting mascal would warrant an immediate wide sweep of the area by either UAV or helicopter in tandem with a lockdown of all major roads in or out if resources are available. A wide sweep MQ9 will 100% find, fix, and finish you unless you are able to literally crawl into an underground cave/tunnel network and emerge at another location. Worse, they may track you and your accomplices back to a 'safe' house and conduct a raid, thereby eliminating/detaining/flipping your cell. The capabilities of the first world security apparatus is not to be underestimated, and unless you are EXTREEEMLEY careful, you will eventually be found if you spend any significant time in public living and doing work after an action like this. Even then, you could still get rolled up if you do everything in your power to evade detection. Recall the SEEK II system we all got given overseas, and new technology that will identify you simply by your gait. Failure to fully conceptualize the capability afforded to occupying forces by these technologies will get you killed super duper fast. I feel that contextualizing this threat was under-appreciated in the video. However, contending with broader security considerations may be an opportunity for a video on its own.
    Insight:
    1) Tools such as DMR's, hunting rifles, and other precision small arms lend a Tarkov Operator tools to identify key Commo and Leadership nodes within a dismounted element prior to engaging. Picking off a radio operator or PL as you initiate contact will do wonders toward putting the other team in shambles and affording you more time before QRF/Red-Air/IDF comes on station. Higher caliber versions of these systems may allow one to disable light armored vehicles as well.
    2) It might be beneficial to touch on casualty SOP's, setting up CCP's, or contending with the reality that Partisans and Scavs will not have access to triage and medical care, and very well may have to get iced in the field Far Cry 2 style, as leaving live wounded offers a very high risk of them getting rolled up and then divulging information on the identities of your teammates. Even if you do get evac'd, you're either going to a horse doctor, slowly dying of infection in a hide site, or going to a regional hospital and getting turned in because of this mysterious 556 sized hole in your guts.
Keep it up, I like your words Ragnar Man. I'd be interested on content in incorporating technicals and gun trucks in the ARMA server. I do agree with you that fighting the Infantry is the absolute fucking last thing you want to do as a Scav/partisan.

      Thank you for the input,
I have another video on the use of non standard weapons (hunting rifles, etc…) in regards to exfil and casualties, those will both be dedicated videos, as you saw this video was an hour long, I’m going to continue the series with dedicated videos for each (egressing a target, dealing with casualties, occupying and utilizing safe houses and weapons caches, etc…)
I agree with what you said,
An Infantry platoon moving in this way WOULD be contrived based on how western countries operated in GWOT, BUT think about an occupation force in a low threat area, maybe not even actual military but a police force/UN unit conducting presence patrols in semi rural areas. British troops in northern Ireland routinely got rolled up in this way. I am aware it’s incredibly unlikely that an infantry unit is gonna be out there without support, but again this video is broad strokes purposes on countering doctrinal infantry battle drills.
The vast majority of the videos I continue to put out are going to be “broadstrokes” to get people to think differently, and stop banking on them creeping around the woods with face paint and helmet scrim, utilizing small unit tactics and play directly into the enemies hands. An infantry platoon wants nothing more than a large-ish group of guerrillas to engage them with small arms and attempt to fight and maneuver on them with easily identifiable weapons and kit, and continue to fight in that way.
Thanks for watching and for the input

Ok so Im not trying to take away from our fellow Americans who didnt come home from overseas or who did but still sustained some sort of injury physical or otherwise along the way when i write this. I support our nations warriors. But your right on what you said. We havent fought a actual conventional force in many many years. Those who have are getting up there in years if they are still alive and technology has changed substantially. In the last 20 years of wars we have had the U.S has sustained a total of 7000 troops KIA inbetween Iraq and Afghanistan (Not counting an additional 50000+ U.S Casulties). Once again im not trying to take away from the Price our fellow Americans paid. But if you look at wars in history fought with conventional forces or between two standing armies there are many instances of battles being fought where that amount of U.S troops were lost over the Course of 1 battle. Take Iwo Jima for example. Nobody in our Modern military honestly understands how a War against another highly organized power is going to play out for us. The U.S has been experimenting with doctrine and technology with information it has gathered from the war in Ukraine. Our militaries doctrine is definitely exploitable like youve stated and against a conventional force is probably very much out of date as well.

I'd suggest any person that want's to succeed at minecraft, link up with veterans of the game (OIF/OEF) who know how the enemies on minecraft established good intelligence procedures and utilized other tools (IED/EFP). There is a wealth of knowledge that can be tapped Into and utilized there. Heavy armored units now have directional mic's, long cylindrical signal jammers, and m2's on an automated system that uses thermal.

in the context of a Minecraft guerilla war, a company sized ambush really isn't feasible. not only would it require more personnel, but you would have to take into consideration the resources available to a team/squad vs an entire company like a weapons squad, mortars and PD-100s. on top of this, a company sized element is going to take priority for CAS and IDF.

The one time that I personally saw the use of an IR blanket almost work was, we were conducting overwatch on a raid that was done at night and which had become a gun fight, we saw a squirter go out an escape hole from the back of the house, he ran to a ditch and covered himself with a blanket, at which point he "disappeared", we could see the lump, but his heat signature was gone, and if we had not watched him go there, we would not have been able to find him... Happy ending to the story, we walked a helicopter onto him, they lit him up, and the ground guys went out and flipped him over, and he "reappeared" on our IR...

If you have even a moderately modern PC and a copy of Arma 3, you could use the Eden Editor to demonstrate "Real life tactics in video games." It may also help with visualization and giving folks a real practical frame of reference for the kinds of terrain and movement you are describing. You can even get the bots to duke out the scenario.
