What is Aerogel? | Daily Planet

Have you ever heard of aerogel? It looks like frozen smoke. And it's the lightest solid material on the planet! Aerogel insulates space suits, makes tennis rackets stronger and could one day help to clean up oil spills! Here our own Sean McShane demonstrates its awesome properties at a lab in Ryerson, where a student is trying to make the substance more accessible and cost efficient! Did we mention this substance is worth 3 times more than gold?
