Hi Chris, great videos, thanks for sharing them :) Really surprised to hear about the disappointing Kensington Pride. As you said they are the main variety here in Australia and I rate them quite high. I wonder if it's climate or soil? I wonder too what variety it actually is as there are lots of Kensington pride varieties (I grow Alison Red for example). Thanks again for all the videos!
It's a solid mango, but it doesn't have exceptional flavors like many of the new varieties (Lemon Meringue, Lemon Zest, Coconut Cream, Pina Colada, Fruit Punch, etc.) and it doesn't have a rich enough flavor for our customers from India. I'm keeping part of the tree as Kensington in case it has strengths I haven't yet discovered.
I live in SwFL and this variety has produced really good flavor and super sweet. I gifted a grafted tree to a friend and found out that you have to water often and fertilize, I wasn't watering as much, and my mangos were subpar to his. I'm mainly in sandy area. I also use compost, fungicid, an neem oil to ward off the weevils here.
@@die-eggocamaney6967 I know what you mean. After many more discussions over the years and having now tried many of the ‘superior’ varieties it is definitely location (or at least nutrient/water/temp) specific. Some of the good Florida varieties are really sub par over here under our conditions/practices and obviously kp is often really poor over there. P.s. realised I never saw Chris’s reply four years ago haha. Wonder if it ever got any better? But I suspect not. Thanks for your vid’s Chris, still watching four years later :) now have a Zill mango in the orchard (orange sherbert) but still really rate kp and honey gold :)
Speaking of Egyptian varieties, do you have a variety called "Timour" ? its a green mango, but has a wonderful sweet complex flavor, also do not remember if you mentioned in any of your videos if you have Maha Chanook.
Truly Tropical its the best we grow in south africa. Very large red yellow mango. Has a coconuty smell when fully ripe. Very sweet. Doesnt ship well though. Fairchild has it on their curator's list... so it is in your side of the world!
interesting with Sunrise & Kensington...I have heard decent things about Madame Blanc and also heard that might be true with smoothies, due to taste profile...some say it is good but it apparently does have fiber...great video once again !

Great video Chris, what is your favorite variety?
My life would be much simpler if I had just one favorite...
