I absolutely love that you actually spend so much time researching how to make something. Its not like "ok I like this dress on this photo, I wanna make it-ok I made it" it seems like you spend hours on the pc researching details, watching videos or emailing creators for information :-) also I love your sweatshirt!
Holy moly girl! You made this complicated costume when you were 16? Amazing! I just love the dress.💙
Haha, ya....though there are definitely things I would have done different now! But that's how you learn!
@@BellaMaesDesigns Yes, but you obviously started with innate imagination and talent.🙂
The time-frame of just three weeks are the real killer in this project. :-)
The little loopy lace is picot. What nonsense lurks in my brain :) Thanks for a fun video!
I love this movie! Thank you for showing how the dress is made! I am planning on my own reproduction!!
You are so welcome! Yay, have fun!
oh my gosh, i love it!!!
and i love you for being like - oh, ya, i should make a costume for that party, like three weeks beforehand, and buying an embroidery machine and such
Haha, yup! I'm probably as mad as the Mad Hatter! 🤣
It is incredible how much of a difference the details make. From a blue dress to Alice's blue dress. Beautiful! Also, good to hear from you again! I hope that motivation returns to you soon.
I really want to make this dress since I have wanted to make a casual late 1860s dress that would be suitable for a sunset barbecue or for a ball. Although I might use a wide black lace trim in place of the embroidery because I can't afford an embroidery machine or have the patience for doing it by hand.
That sounds like a lovely project and great alternative!
I have no words to describe my delight! I'm a fan of "Alice in Wonderland" and when I found this video, I couldn't believe my eyes! It's so fantastic! You're a great master! You enspire me)💙💙💙
I love your videos you're so creative
Ok I just had a thought: with the satin through the lace, you might want to try using a yarn needle to thread it through next time, I think that might make it a smidge easier! (Also I need to make one of these ugh it’s so pretty)
Edit: ok that’s what you did with the elastic clearly I need to watch the entire video before commenting lol
It's probably too late to tell you this now but you could very easily crochet both those types of lace. I have crocheted lace many many time, you can make so many patterns and you can make exactly what you want. It doesn't take as much time as you might think and it's easy and it's definitely wayyy more cost effective
Really lovely to see you back. Thoroughly enjoy your content x
😱💖 I loved this dress in the film!
Your work is Stunning!! Are you going to sell the pattern for Alice’s Red Dress?
I want this dress so bad but in purple 😂
So, your Alice dress for Wonderland is Alice Blue as named for Alice Roosevelt? I love Connections. The president's daughter was well worth reading about. lol
👗
how did you close the back of the skirt? is it a placket? or just a regular zipper?
It's just a clasp at the waistband and then I overlap it a bit to fill in the gap! :) I do most my skirt like this as long as there's enough gather in the skirt that it will cover the gap! Not the normal way of doing it, but I do it anyway! :)
thank you!!!
Fun fact: May the 4th is not only Star Wars day, but also Rabbit Hole day as it's the day Alice fell down the rabbit hole. She tells the Caterpillar that it's the 4th, and then muses that the hare won't be mad, because it's May. It's also Alice Liddell's birthday.
The attention to detail leads to such a beautiful result. My sewing level is very beginner, but even I can appreciate the careful stitching. The customer is quite lucky to have such a treasure (I hope it shipped with cleaning tips!) ❤️
You definitely have a gift! WOW 16! I was just trying to survive high school, let alone creating and making an amazing dress! You're so creative, smart and talented. I love your videos, I don't usually comment, but felt the need to tell you what a joy it is to watch your videos, they aren't only interesting but relaxing! Thank you!
Aww this is going to be wonderful it’s very relaxing watching how you design your garments, I love sewing myself
Totally not selfish! I asked you to dress up! I'm just glad everyone joined in to my crazy idea :D Love the dress, as usual. :)
The attention to detail is amazing, and the gloves were a very appreciated bonus! Can't wait for the next video!😁
I'd recommend you add an additional tier to your Patreon. I don't care about any extra or exclusive content (don't have the time) but want to support you, except I don't have a lot to support with and many whom I would like to! My total Patreon budget is $10 per month, which I know is not much and I would love to give $1 a month to 10 creators rather than just 2 or 3. If you had a "just support" tier for $1 I'd definitely become a patron. You might be surprised as it could add up if there were other eager but meagre fans.
Wow, I love this! It looks so good and the video just took me away for half an hour to a parallel universe where I'm able to make this... I'm in the middle of writing my master's thesis and really stressed out and you showed me a rabbit hole to fall down for a little while and get motivated again! Thank you so much!
Awwwwww! That's wonderful! 💙
As usual you impress. The dress is wonderful but I think I love the striped petticoat best. The biased edging just sets it off. I would totally wear that as a skirt 😉.
Yes! I love the look the petticoat gives!
Psst, my dear, the edging that the ribbon runs through is called eyelet lace/edging/etcetera….Love your videos and wish you would post more often!
Oh, yes! Thanks!
Historically/ in catalogs you’ll also see it called beading.
Beautiful piece, but unfortunately, it's a very expensive pattern for only being one size.
so lovely to see this today - your skill and attention to detail inspires me to be better! Thank you xxx
Awww, so happy to hear that! ❤️
The loopy lace for feeding ribbon is called beading 😄
🥰 Sooo pretty! ❤️
You’re a very clever woman! (You make it look so easy, but I know I would have a nervous breakdown if I tried it! 😂)
Oh man I remember being sixteen, I made some nice skirts and shirts. I’m only seventeen now but like I’m impressed anyway.
Damn, this looks amazing
I LOVE this dress… so glad you recreated it, even for someone else!
I was looking at the website for the buttons and it looks like there are multiple sizes for the ones I think these are. Could you share which size they were or a measurement for the ones you used?
Lol and if you happen to have a record of the what/where of the stripes fabric… i would use that for so many things. Love it!
She used size 16! I bought them from another store, hushcobuttons closed!! I know another store MOPBUTTONS which sells them and I read a post that the original buttons were either a size 16 or 18 :)
@@HarlequinPixie you can go on her blogpost for that! She embedded the link for the silk taffeta :)
bella, it's aMAZing!!!!! i love love love seeing the research and thought process behind the reproductions you make. loved seeing the bodice created and the skirt and petticoat analyzed.
Holy moly girl! You made this complicated costume when
You were 16? Amazing l just love the dress ❤️
Absolutely wonderful, thank you so much!!
Would you ever consider doing the same for the White Queen Mirana?
Probably not! :)
Somehow it seems simple and yet very complicated at the same time. 😅 Thank you for sharing about every detail! I have learned so much from watching your videos and make fewer mistakes on my sewing projects because of that. 😁❤
haha, yes! Aw, so happy to hear that!! ❤️
Oh my God. FOR REAL BELLA??
My gosh this has been my favorite dress of yours 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️. Thank you so much for the pattern. It’s a gorgeous dress and I’ve been waiting for a tutorial for this from you. Thank you. 💗
Last year I attempted to make this dress. The bodice had a wonky closure but I used all of my skills and I think I have visited your blogspot at least 70 times before doing it. I had a hard time with the chiffon I used and I remember I bought an embroidery machine JUST for that project!! The skirt I’ve never finished and just like you I ended up with an un-finished Alice dress. This video id making me hyped up for making It again!
Oh, that's great!! So happy to hear that!!
Will you be doing commissions again?
Omg please do a Pam Anderson look
Nice... thank you so much ...thankyou for the detailed description,, I was very helpful....
Hi Bella-Mae! I'm half way through and this whole thing is making me smile so much. The bodice is so dainty and quaint and pretty. I just wanted to ask before I forget...did you have in-person fittings with your client? How did you adjust the pattern pieces? Using pure measurements? Or did you pad out your dress form to your client's sizes? I am a self taught sewist and am branching out into custom gowns and corsets...I'm curious! Thank you and much love from the UK
Aw, that's fun to hear! No, I don't do in-person (and really never have!). I usually make a mock-up with their measurements and then often I sent them that to have them do a fitting (basically by themselves, but with some guidance from me.). When I don't do that, yes, I pad the dress form to their size and work with the measurements!
@@BellaMaesDesigns Aww thank you so much for taking the time to reply. This is a great help! I've been tempted to send mock ups to people before but worried we wouldn't be able to navigate making the markings we'd need for adjustments from a distance. I think I'll give it a go in future though. Thank you!
Beautiful 😻
This was such an amazing video, Now I am so inspired to make and pattern more complicated dresses. Thank you so much for sharing your work✨💕
Its lovely. Quite a lot of detail!
I love your videos so much! It’s so cool to know your creative process and your attention to detail and accuracy in the replication of costumes.
Welcome back!
Thank you!
Love that sweater😊 love that lovely photograph💖 and also love that dress😊😊😊😊 love from my heart........
I’ve been in love with her red ribbon shirt outfit from the climax of the second movie.
Gah, yes! I love the costumes in this movie, especially Alices dresses!
Your replica of the dress is incredible. However, your replica of the gloves baffle me. Why did you add the three large accessory buttons? They are not on the original gloves. While I imagine you choose to use snaps, and where you did, to make it easier, I don't understand the three accent buttons. -Unless it was your own signature piece? But it is not a replica of the orginal, and I thought that's what this piece is.
There are actually 3 buttons on the gloves, thought they are a bit smaller and probably shell, I had a hard time finding the photo that showed the buttons. They had a similar design to the ones on the gloves I have on in the photos (the first gloves I made.) But I couldn’t find the same buttons, so made do with these. But yes, there are buttons on the original movie gloves, just not as noticeable
this looks so pretty! Perfect for tea time with the mad hatter. Would you like one lump or two? ☕
Such a pretty dress.
I appreciate you sharing the details
Dress is beautiful and have question have you seen Sleepy Hollow movie? If so would do project from this movie?
No I haven't and probably not! 🙃
Well you’ve returned with a bang. You seem to have upped your video game quite a bit.
Aw, thank you! I appreciate it!
What pattern did you use to make the petticoat? If you made it I would totally buy a PDF pattern of it.
I made it! And I'm selling the pattern! You can pre-order it here: bella-maes.com/product/alice-dress-pattern-pdf-printable/
Glad to see you're back! This dress is lovely, the tips for the piping are sure to come in handy!
Yes!! It's definitely a handy trick!
Beautiful work darling!
The dress is beautiful! I miss you! I haven't seen. Many of your utube
Yes, I've been taking a break... but I should be back at it soon!
stunning craftsmanship
Wow that’s lovely!
I'm looking into buying an embroidery machine- if anyone can help suggest one that won't cost a ton that would be amazing!!!
I purchased my Brother PE-770 for around $500 and I LOVE how it's held up over the years of use I've put on it! Of course that was 8 years ago!
@@BellaMaesDesigns curious to know what software you used to do the digitizing. Seems all of them cost a fortune :-/
@@HarlequinPixie She used the free trial of SewArt. Hatch Embroidery is also great. Just make sure the density of the stitches is quite not so dense so you don’t tear the fabric!!
Omg! I’ve wished for this video forever!
Aww, yay!!
Bella, you are extremely talented. Thank you for sharing your creativity with all of us! I hope that soon you will be able to find a great deal of joy and motivation in your work.
Thank you for that! 💙💙💙
Oh! And one more thing did you turn off your facebook comment section???
Nope! Though I don't really do much on Facebook! 🙃
😄😄😄😄
Well 😀 but I checked from here and I couldn't like, comment there. Please don't mind. I really didn't find any "Like" or "Comment" section. 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
wait I'm older than you? I'm so confused
She's very young. I'm older than her also
Haha! I'm 22! 🙃
I love love LOVE THIS! It's so beautiful~. Gosh, that seems like that'd be such a cute history bounding day dress. 🌚🤌🏼 **loud scribblin' on to sew list**
Ohhh, so true!
