Great video ... common fault on Volvo S40 ... Mine said "Boot Lid Open" ...when shut .... go to the wiring loom ... on left when lid open .... peel back the rubber and re-join the broken wire ... sorted ............ Note .. make sure the rubber grommet is secured as water will get in and you will have a wet patch behind passenger seat.
Hi I have the same issue on my 2011 S40 however I also noticed that the lights on the panel are not working as well. So, do I have a fuse problem or do I have a lock problem
@@eoingriffin6335 I fixed it myself. First you need to open the boot from the inside. You do this by using a strong screw driver, push it down on the lock and it will open. Then look at the wiring located on the boot frame, the hole where the wires/cables pass through does not have a protected edging (manufacturing fault) so, over time the covering on the wires splits and then the wires get damaged. You need to pull carefully pull the cables up through the hole and see which ones are damaged then tidy them up and join them together with small electrical connectors, really easy. Then check your panel if all is good then close the boot and try it. It should work, now tape up the cables really well so that they are protected.
Oh man this was helpful. I forgot that valet mode with the glovebox does that. I’ve locked my glovebox when parking the car since my key buttons don’t work. I seriously need a new key at this point
In my case it was wires issue.I had to open the boot using 12 volt battery. Need to go inside the boot, take off the lid cover and connect battery to two thicker wires on boot lock. This way I opened boot to fix wires.
I believe if you fold down the back seat, then you can crawl inside and pull safety handle and trunk will open, not sure about the european version tho.

hi! is it the same problem if the reg light is on when Im pressing the button?
Thanks! It worked. Had similar problem for some days and followed your video instructions.
Wow thank you so much been driving without this for years
Also the wires inside the corrugated rubber boot feeding the trunklid can break - they need to be replaced or repaired.
Thanks! I actually found that my wires near the trunk lid had worn and 1 was split. So check for that if the new button doesn't work to anyone else
What was the part you changed? Where can I buy from?
My question too!
You don't know the switch is faulty. most likely a broken wire in flexible tube across boot opening.

If you lock the glove compartment with the valet key, the trunk will not open.
That happened to mine once. But now it won't open at all
Bro your comment just saved me from buying a new switch haha
@@smashlauren omg I pray you saved me because as soon as I locked it, the trunk won't open
