- Have you ever found yourself on a deserted island? Well now is your chance. Welcome to is Isla Bastimentos National Marine reserve in Panama. We visited The island of Zapatilla with the tour offered through Transparente tours. We gazed at the pristine waters lapping the white sand beach, we snorkeled till we couldn’t snorkel anymore, and we just tried to absorb the unbelievable surroundings on this island. We also spent time watching dolphins frolicking in the gorgeous waters, starfish lazily crawling the sandy bottoms at Starfish Beach, and swam in what felt like an aquarium. Perhaps the highlight of the trip today was the surprise encounter with nurse sharks! If you’re planning a trip to Bocas del Toro, Panama, you can’t miss this.

Locals Tip! Call ahead and order sandwiches from Super Gourmet and pick them up before starting the tour. There is something magical about eating those sandwiches while your feet are buried in the sand of Zapatilla after you totally exhaust yourself snorkeling! However, still plan to buy some lunch from the local restaurant on the tour because you won’t be disappointed with their local fare! You only live once. Support the local business as much as you can.

Beautiful video. I would have also watched the fish in the crystal clear water at the restaurant. I hope when I go to Panama that I will have time to see some of these beautiful beaches. At the very least I enjoyed watching your video.
Amazing. I went to Red Frog beach when I went in October. I did not have time to go to Zapatillas but I want to go now. Red Frog beach was beautiful also. We really had a great time. Bocas is definately a hiddent paradise.
And we didn’t get to visit Red Frog! So we must go back it appears….

You can book El Pelicano on AirBnB! Any questions about it, just ask! I need to do just one video on tips and tricks for enjoying your stay in Bocas del Toro. Like find the local remedy for relieving the chitra bites, keeping them off. That was my biggest issue while in Bocas.
One correction: It’s Starfish Island aka “Hollywood”. Starfish Beach is an actual beach, in the opposite direction past FloatingBar. 😊

I’m having more and more fun making these videos!!! We just booked another trip but this year we head to the eastern Caribbean and spend a week on a sail boat around the grenadines! So we will have an entirely new series coming out June 2023!
We enjoyed this video Hanna. Our trip to Panama is getting closer-3 weeks away! One question: you suggested getting sandwiches from super gourmet. Did you eat the sandwiches instead of the lunch provided on the tour? Or was your suggestion just to enjoy a sandwich there sometime during your stay? Thanks!
We brought the sandwiches with us as we didn’t eat before leaving on the trip. We were famished on zapatillo after snorkeling so much so we were thankful for the snack. However, mainly because we were wanting to experience all the local fare had to offer as well as support the remote restaurant, we ordered lunch from them, too! So enjoy sandwiches from super gourmet on zapatillo or anytime you are on bocas! And absolutely get something from the remote restaurant because it will be an experience of local fare and an adventure! We live for food adventures!
Just a note: the lunch isn’t provided. There’s a restaurant that you stop at where you can order food.

How were the mosquitos on your trip? I'm more worried about No-seums.
Yes, but you almost never see them! I did see mosquitos sometimes in our bedroom as we had a mosquito net over the bed. No seums are absolutely a problem! I was pretty impacted by them. When we go back, I’ll be either making or buying a local remedy immediately. I found it the last night we were there. Bought it at a restaurant called Firefly on bastimentos. It is coconut oil with essential oils and lemon grass in it. I don’t know all the particulars but it changed my life the moment I slathered that on my legs!
