Hello all. I've had a rough couple weeks. I don't believe I did a good job with this video so I'll leave a quick summary below: - The book is well made, I still have the same issues as I always do. I'd rather it be on better paper and with thicker card stock for the cover. - Jason Aaron's story is great, very interesting, but a bit difficult to explain linearly for me. It's mostly about King Conan dealing with the fucked up reality of the abuse of power this Brythunian king does via the point of view of a witch. The artwork is phenomenal, but I don't like the costume design for Conan, I think it makes him look like Igor Karkaroff from Harry Potter and it's not how I like Conan to look. - Jim & De la Torre's story is fun, I believe it's a left over bit of story telling from the main story that's been adapted into this magazine, but who knows. - Michael Kogge's story is not bad, but it didn't seem like a good idea to have kid Conan on here after such a kid Conan centric arc in the main series. The difference in characterization is stark and I don't think it's good to bring attention to it. The art by Dan Parsons is not for me. - The pin ups were pretty weak this time around. I don't like that two of them were undersized. Sedat Oezgen's was pretty cool though. - I forgot to score the magazine, so I'd say it's a 6/10 for me. It's carried by Aaron's story telling, but it's not a great entry in my estimation, especially not with the simple mistakes made in the editing of the book.
Hey hey man. Cheers for the review. I appreciate you having the camera on the book while you're reviewing it, adds a lot to the overall experience. Concerning the authors at the bottom of the cover. They are in alphabetical order, as the "de la" in "de la Torre" does not apply to alphabetical ordering. As the "de la" is a preposition and not a proper name.
Hey! Thanks for commenting and the info. I didn't know that prepositions in other languages were respected by alphabetical ordering in English. You learn something new everyday haha
Great review Lion. It was an odd issue, eh? I liked it...but for many of the reasons you mention, it just didn't hit the mark. But I did like it. Just left a weird feeling. And that back cover...jeez. I think your observations about the margins in the pin-ups is especially true. Not the best outing. It's funny, I'd thought that the Roy Thomas and De La Torre story was coming in Issue 6...but it seems I'm wrong based on the solicits. I wonder if the story schedule changed, causing confusion?
Yeah man, even so many days after reading it I really don't know what happened with it. Maybe the schedule change caused some of the problems, but it wouldn't account for all of the issues I had with the issue. It's a shame that 5 issues in we are seeing issues like this regardless of what happened behind the scenes.
Not a great issue in my opinion. This felt like a bad 80s Savage Sword and not a return to the classics of the 70s. The printing issues don't bother me half as much as the actual writing and art. Of course, Zub and De la torre are always great, but a 2 pager doesn't add up to much. The only issue ive really enjoyed so far is the 4th (discounting the dark agnes story) If only Savage Sword was on the same level as the colour titles i'd be more than happy!

This was my favorite issue so far. Not surprised, Geoff Isherwood rocks.
