Yesterday I noticed that Davenport won all her 3 slams without losing a set.... Pretty incredible. Probably, when she was on fire, stopping her was really difficult.
I found another fact: on route to her all grand slam titles, she needed to beat the defending champions: Hingis in 98 US final, Novotna in 99 Winby QF, and Hingis in 00 AUS Open final. 😆
She almost won Wimbledon 05 in that case she had to fight hard to get to the match point in the final. She was on fire at the 04 Us as well when she unfortunately injured 😢
Devastating performance from Lindsay there, the cleanest and most versatile ball striker I've seen in tennis. You see how she hits with crushingly effortless power but her racket head is constantly being flicked up and down to get beneath the ball when she needs to. I've never seen such excellent control as she had. She moved very well here too. One thing that's not often said about Davenport is that although she wasn't a great sprinter, she used her great reach and hit very well when on the run, so that if she did get to the ball, and she usually did, she had a range of options defensively and aggressively with all that racket head control.
This match actually helped davenport a lot especially in the finals when facing Steffi. Jana novotna has a pretty good slice play, may not be as good as graf's slice but she has her own way. Davenport did move well here and actually literally breezed past Alexandra Stevenson in the semifinals and went on to win this title beating graf
you need to start putting scores up there is no graphics. makes it meaningless just watching points without knowing the context of the match. you need to take your highlights to the next level
Or how about you stop being a whiny brat & enjoy the damn highlights for what they're worth. You don't know how much hard work the uploader had to put in to give us a chance to watch them. He/she could've been really petty and kept this all to themselves, but here you go being an ungrateful twat. Still wanna complain? Make your own highlights then.
It's weird for me that Jana has beaten every top players, such as Navratilova, Graf, Seles, Hingis, V.Williams... but never Davenport, even when Davenport just turned pro. The slices, drop shots, and net games just don't work when facing her.
Agree. She came very close at the uso 1997, losing in the 3rd set tiebreaker. All the other matches were straight sets victories for Davenport (6/6). She was just a bad matchup for Jana.
This is a very surprising stat. I would have thought that Jana’s slice would trouble Lindsay but she handled it well. I think Lindsay’s return was too good for Jana to always serve and volley against. Jana should have mixed things up much more. Lindsay also seemed to like Jana’s flat forehand right into her strike zone.
Slightly jarring knowing this was Jana's last *hoorah, and even she(probably)realized it! Nonetheless good she managed to get one before it was all said, & done.

@Stacked747 🤣🤣 yeah, that's true. Maybe I'm a slow learner!

Yes finally. Another Wimby 99 Lindsay match.

Too much power...just like Williams but Venus was too young when she played Novotna.
Great match from Davenport!
Davenport played very solid that day.
She was above everyone else that year. Didn’t lose a set and sent Graf into retirement ;)
Wow. The only thing I saw that day was Lindsay jumping at the end. But did not know the point ended like that.
Interesting factoid: Davenport has never lost a match to Novotna
Target practice for Lindsay. As good and versatile as Jana was, Lindsay always overpowered her.
I don't think Novotna ever beat Davenport ?
Never
6-0 head to head for Davenport
Novotna's play is much more interesting to watch

To be fair she did exceptionally well to get to the Quarters given the horrible ankle roll she had in the French.
I actually think Novotna played well at this tournament given how erratic her year was due to injuries and just getting older.
Novotna not moving well.
Nunca le pudo ganar Jana a Davenport.
