    I would ask 1 thing. Why do you mix metric and standard measurements? You just said, "... add 1 liter to 1 gallon." That's like saying, "Cut me a 2x4 three feet, 10 centimeters long." That doesn't make sense. Is it really gonna matter if you only add a quart to the gallon? Or just say, "Add a tad over a quart to a gallon." Let's stick with ounces, cups, pints, quarts and gallons since you're in the USA. Or just stick with metric, one or the other, but not both. I think you're the reason for my high school chemistry nightmare last night. Other than that, I think you're the best thing since sliced bread.

      @gardenlikeaviking what's your take on jadam saying you must apply these jadam products at 4 am for it to be effective he specifically said if you dont apply at 4 am then don't bother starting a garden whats your take?

    • @michaeldrum8369
      @michaeldrum8369 Рік тому +2

      @@anth115 that's if you are doing monoculture, jadam provides current farmers a cheaper alternative to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. This is not necessary if you use diverse blends of cover crops and do not till the soil. There are lazy ways to water your plants early in the morning if you like to sleep in 😂

    • @anth115
      @anth115 Рік тому +2

      @michaeldrum8369 grass is typically a monoculture having a lawn. And you definitely don't need to wake up at 4 am to have a nice grass ;) and let me tell you jadam is great for having a nice grass as well. It works on anything with soil

    Now I really like you, keep that in mind. I have a deep love of biology and chemistry. Those chemicals you read off are the same chemicals that the protozoans, metazoans, fungi, bacteria, and insects all free up. I love "organic gardening" but I'm not an organic gardener. My seedlings get a liquid synthetic. I can store 200lbs in an 18 gallon tote. Calcium nitrate and epsom salt are always my core starting points. I will always hit my seedlings with a liquid synthetic, and I never dilute it. Now I'm also lazy in nature. Because of this, I love using leaf mold, compost, my worm bins castings, and alfalfa pellets(organic, keep away from those herbicides and pesticides) as a top dress fertilizer. Fertilizers aren't your enemies. Now herbicides and pesticides are a different story.
    Now all the disagreement aside, your methods are great and work. Great channel and keep trucking along.

    • @gardenlikeaviking
      @gardenlikeaviking  2 роки тому +11

      thank you for this thoughtful and respectful comment my friend.... I deeply disagree with you on the use of synthetic fertilizers... of course I'm not saying there's anything wrong with you or anyone who uses them as a person... but I am saying chemicals are not the same as the biological method and they do not nourish the life in the soil and therefor they cannot be the way of the future... nor are they the ways of our ancestors whose lives literally depended on keeping the soil healthy and alive for millennia before us... thank you for your input Ronald

    Last year I started getting into growing fig trees. I’ve been using Jadam for 2 years now and am applying the method to my trees. With great success. I am always on the fig forums and all they talk about is how much miracle grow to use. They people know all the varieties of figs, how to graft limbs everything except how to grow. Yes they get big beautiful trees but then will complain that this year the fruit wasn’t that good. Or the the tree dropped all its figs. Or that the fruit of potted fig trees is not as good as in the ground. They are turning their trees into junkies waiting for its next fix, and what happens after a few years the tree goes into withdraw. Fruit doesn’t taste sweet or the leaves are curling the trees drops it’s fruit. I try to educate them to feed the soil not the tree. If the potted tree has the same biology as the in ground trees the fruit should taste exactly the same. I hear them say water the tree until it comes out of the bottom. But what else is coming out? Every nutrient and microbe. I was growing fig trees last year that were 4 ft in 2 gal pots. When I put the in the ground they grew another 2 ft before I pinched the tips to stop their growth and focus on ripening the fruit. And all I gave them was comfrey tea in the beginning and then compost teas with IMO and FAA. I only got a few fruit per tree but they were delicious. And from a 7 month old tree. It takes two to three years to see a good crop. I had one tree that I bought and got stuck in the mail for 8 days. It was only 6in tall and almost dead. Using Jadam that tree not only gave me 6 fruit but the trunk this year measures 1.5 in. From half the size of a pencil. I will be going to one of their gathering this year, hope to make some converts…..

The salt used for osmosis is utilized by the living organisms (leaf mold) with the blended potato as a food source during the process, while salts in the synthetic fertilizers are built up in the soil and have an opposite effect, very harmful to the SOIL that the plant gets its desired nourishment from ?

      That was the wood ash fertilizer I aerated, not the potato -salt- leaf mold blend, my bad😖But, the added salt? Purpose? I went light on it, could that be why I never had a full tiny-bubble mat floating on top after sitting in GEORGIA hot sun for 48 hours?

      if you absolutely had to do it that way yes you can but its best to dilute it before application

    I practice only JADAM so I have read the books a few times and I follow a lot of farmers who practice JADAM.
    Any JLF fed to planted soil should be diluted at least 1:30. Standard practice is to start at 1:100 as a test, then raise or lower if needed.
    The idea that you can’t burn plants with organic fertilizers applies to organic matter vs inorganic nutrients, not just “organic” vs synthetic. JLF is not organic matter even though it is produced “organically” (it even says that in the book).
    It can absolutely burn plants and it will kill your crop if you aren’t careful with it. The life cycle of JLF seems to cause a large spike in inorganic nitrogen around the 6-18 month age range (depending on temperatures and plant matter), then the nitrogen slowly goes away and you are left with the other minerals.
    If you don’t dilute it enough during that spike, that’s when you can harm plants. After 3 years I know folks who have used it undiluted with great results (don’t do this without testing).
    Not trying to be critical or pedantic but I’d hate for someone to hurt their crops. The dilutions you recommend may have worked for you in your context but JLF is powerful stuff and should be respected as such.

      Thanks very much. I jut asked Nate a question about banking the JLF with a larger concentration before winter. I am going the regenerative agricultural methodology of strip grazing to stimulate growth via trampling, inoculation of the soil from the flora of a healthy rumen of cattle and sheep. In effect simulation of how the land worked when the buffalo roamed the plane. Any best learned experiences with pasture would be appreciated. Just found this material a little over 2 months ago and want to make my first actual leaf mold culture come late April.
